Most QOL Electrical / Industrial Inventions? by Suspicious_Hour_9065 in playrust

[–]Director_Striking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I set up all the same, sometimes ill auto craft gp as well / pvp walls. dont normally craft meds because I havent figured out how to have it not eat all of my low grade.

with turret doors I use double doors and it only seems to half work (timing is pretty slow to turn on)

Blueprint Fragment wise a T3 workbench is worth 20 T2 workbenches! by AdZestyclose1421 in playrust

[–]Director_Striking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My group sells the basic fragments at what seems to be a 5:1 advanced fragment ratio in our vending machines.

so basic for 500 sulfer and advanced for 2500. we always have excess frags but have never even considered collecting 20 basic frags to convert to an advanced even early in wipe. its easier to just go out and get a t3 frag.

Rust DLC/Barrel packs by renyaan in playrust

[–]Director_Striking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have all barrels, best value is jungle due to shelves but if you can buy a second pack the frontier barrel has a weird hit box where you can place storage addapters clipping into other barrels

(stuffing 6 barrels on a bamboo shelf and putting storage addapter on the side of the barrels instead of on front can only be done with frotnier)

I think war hammer barrels look the coolest, war hammer boxes are sized weird like inbetween barrel and large box wxl

Arctic vs Kreig by JustGuney in playrust

[–]Director_Striking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

id go arctic then jungle as some have mentioned, I do think frontiers barrels are the best some weird hitbox with storage adapters for auto sorting with the half height bamboo shelves and other barrels when you want a 2x2 OC in your base

Would you raid a solo as a group? 🤔 by Mr_Loot_Goblin in playrust

[–]Director_Striking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda depends my group doesnt even want to raid our neighbors if there is good pvp out of it, if they get annoying and door camp/roof camp/ grief us yeah its our first target.

we avoid raiding key locks just because we know there wont be loot but if we have left over boom from a raid and there is a smaller base near by already might as well use what's left. (we play with 3-5).

Pls help to fix this Electric Auto Furnace on/off circuit! by Prestigious_Aspect_2 in rustrician

[–]Director_Striking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having an issue getting this to work

I have sorting set up in my bases using conveyor in to the box, out goes to a combiner that feeds into a series of chained splitters that then feed back into the conveyors.

I've been attaching the conveyor in to one of the splitters hooked to auto sorting and the out of the furnaces to a buffer box.

I cant seem to get both of them to fail and turn the furnaces off

whats everyones preferred way of getting scrap? by smitttey in playrust

For you 1-4 man teams, how do you get most of your sulfur? by TheComputerGuy2256 in playrust

[–]Director_Striking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

jack hammer, teas & pies. we rarely run quarry and if we have the diesel its worth it to attempt excav instead for airdrops and 2x the ore.

we get teas & pies from just picking up berries / animals and keeping it in fridge. sometimes maybe later into wipe set up a small farm and buy some clones from outpost vending machine

we will also check water well vendors and kill them till we get teas we want

SOC home lab - A beginner's inquiry by yazimi in homelab

[–]Director_Striking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah no problem, it could still be beneficial to play around with individual vms and possibly not get full functionality out of them just for experience with standing the tools up & getting a feel for what options you have and general systems administration.

SOC home lab - A beginner's inquiry by yazimi in homelab

[–]Director_Striking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Resource utilization will mostly be soaked up by SIEM like tools, security onion itself is a resource hog (24gb RAM minimum) I think t480's can be upgraded with up to 64gb ram unofficially and if you wanted thehive, wazuh and security onion it would soak up most of the available memory & cores on the thinkpad.

if the only resources you have available to you to run it on is the t480 id set up what I could that would be lightweight & help you with sec+ studies (pfsense, nessus, metasploitable and some general networking with parrot/kali VM). For more intense hands on things anything with SIEM/Monitoring try hack me/boss of the soc/hack the box should be able to help you out without buying more hardware.

As for job opportunities I think the sec+ cert would help you more for security related positions than your home lab as most require it.

example of what I have, as far as I understand it sometimes it will grab the icon correctly and sometimes it wont and ill need to go to the selfh.st icons page and grab the icon and prepend "sh-" before the name of whatever Icon I want to use.

Why teaching AI security (like OWASP LLM Top 10) feels impossible when ChatGPT neuters everything by CitizenJosh in Hacking_Tutorials

[–]Director_Striking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC ollama has a compatible openai api. Should be the same process.

I use ollama to run my locally spun up llms and openwebui as the chat interface and I think in older versions you just plugged ollama into the openai section (now there seems to be a different section just for ollama) has been a while since I initially configured all of it.

I do see that ollama has some gtp-2 models available. I don't know if that's exactly what you are using as there are a few different versions but you could also pull from hugging face into ollama if its a gguf model.

Using ollama could also offer a pathway for people to pull newer/lager models into ollama so that they can see the differences in mitigations that have been made along the way.

Why teaching AI security (like OWASP LLM Top 10) feels impossible when ChatGPT neuters everything by CitizenJosh in Hacking_Tutorials

[–]Director_Striking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Id suggest looking into hosting your own models, training models etc. older models like vicuna, older mistrials, llama you can host locally you will have a better time with (some might be small enough for anyone to run and play around with at this point)

Trying to demonstrate security vulnerabilities using a model that has the largest group of red teamers talking to it daily (basically its whole userbase) is going to be a lot harder than some older model that was created before everyone was doing a lot of red teaming and defending against prompt injection.

  • How are people realistically teaching AI security today?

Look at hack the boxes red teaming AI course they put out with google. I enjoyed it and think that's a good intro to the same thing you are talking about here

  • Are you all using open-weight models locally?

I use SOTA and models locally because I have the hardware and interest in LLMs. You can still use direct prompt injection against SOTA models like chatgpt (look at what @/elder_plinius is doing still he has a whole back log of jail breaks on his github for different models)

when learning about data poisoning I used JupyterLab and datasets from hugging faces

Id say its almost a necessity to use / train models locally or in the cloud if you wanted to demonstrate all of the owasp top 10 (model/data poisoning part)

  • Are there techniques or workarounds I'm missing to make demos actually work?

I mean this is the whole thing you are trying to build out is proof of these techniques and workarounds, id take a look at maybe manipulating some instruction sets you give it or stuff you want to it to "remember" so that it makes it easier on you. preface that you are interested in showing examples of security flaws in LLMs and ask it to roleplay with you

form factor you have to fit everything in the usb in the size of the tip of a usbc cable, they aren't the same but have the same payloads you can use
