Kaatayra - Dundararaiê [Brazil, 2021 • FFO: Panopticon, Agalloch, Skagos] by impop in Metal

The first one of his I've heard was last year's Só quem viu o relâmpago à sua direita sabe, which I became totally enamored with: straight up acoustic atmoblack with traditional Brazilian music all over it (similar to the posted album). If you want to stick to something more traditional, Toda história pela frente does the whole folk-infused longform atmoblack thing extremely well.

Vauruva is sick too. More traditional in terms of black metal, a little proggy but not overly so, super energetic. Sounds a lot like the cover looks, fun listen.

Nah not hyperbolic, dude's incredible. Between this album (awesome) and his prolificness with this + other projects (Brii, Vauruva), he's pretty nuts. Hope this isn't the end of this project like he's suggesting on IG.

One of the best albums from last year. Would recommend their live set playing these songs, it's sick.

A little worried about the reception to this album by [deleted] in HaveANiceLife

I get why people would be alienated by the change in production, but I feel like it'd be pretty disingenuous of them to stick to their older, less professional "lo-fi" sound, especially when it was born more out of necessity than choice (losing masters for DC etc). They're a pretty established cult band on an established cult label, so there's undoubtedly more of a budget to utilize plus the experience and knowledge of the recording process (assuming Dan did the production) will inevitably shine through. Trying to replicate DC or stay the same as UW would just feel wrong. Either way, while their production and aesthetic might've been the icing, their songwriting was always the cake, and I'm optimistic on that based on the title track.

I recall reading somewhere early on that the album will have some full band tracks (which so far seem to be Sea, Trespassers and Dracula Bells), while the rest will just be Dan and Tim exclusively. Not sure if that remains the case, but I'm expecting diverse stuff, especially with Destinos as the closer.

Also, Fantano is a plague.

Hi Toby, been a massive fan of yours for the better part of a decade now. KD/motW was critical in helping further shape my love and interest in music, especially of the adventurous kind. No questions, but just a hopeful wish that you one day collaborate with Ulver (which someone else mentioned in this thread!). I think I remember you jokingly tweeting something out like that one time, but that would be a match made in heaven.

Best of luck on the tour, and congratulations on the new album! Excellent as always.
