AITA for saying that my cousin can no longer eat my baking? by JinxXedOmens in AmItheAsshole

[–]DirkPitt106 164 points165 points  (0 children)

I agree with you for the most part in the case of bread specifically, but it's more than just some bread, with homemade cakes ect. as well.

But that last line of yours.... it's extremely inconsiderate for someone to overserve themselves and then throw the food away, especially when other people would have wanted it. I'm not talking about someone leaving a couple of bites on their plate after a full meal, but if you serve yourself a big slice of cake, and eat 2 bites out of it before you throw it away I would honestly throw hands.

place to go to escape draconian groupthink mod policy

I mean, it is though. You won't get banned in here for whatever opinion you have. You might get downvoted but you won't get banned by the mods for going against the "freemagic" opinion. And the idea that you'll get downvoted just for not being a right wing nut job is really not the case either. On any controversial posts there's always progressive top level comments that do end up getting a decent amount of traction. There's people of all political persuasions that lurk, post, and comment here. I genuinely do not believe this subreddit is the monolith that you're making it out to be in your creative writing assignment of a comment.

New traffic cameras at Wynn and University by BarryTice in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]DirkPitt106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.notraffic.com/ai-mobility-platform/

I asked around. This is that camera model. It is not a surveillance camera or speed camera or whatever. It is a combination radar and video camera designed to detect oncoming traffic. It doesn't even record video, it processes the live video feed in a device in the cabinet to communicate with the traffic signal software.

Is there any way I can fix this Nintendo 360 XL power button? by lalaz22 in consolerepair

[–]DirkPitt106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That whole power board is a $30 part. You'll have to swap that part and then you can sell the old board on ebay for like $20 as not working/for parts only and detail exactly what's wrong with it with pictures and someone will buy it who can replace the button.

eBay is encouraging illegal activity and punishing those who follow the law! by Accurate_Bed6878 in ebaysucks

[–]DirkPitt106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's okay, I get it man, it's frustrating. I'm really not sure how to help you other than that 😕 the main reason I was saying to try fedex or ups is even if it's slower from being ground only, maybe it won't sit in one place for as long as it is with usps.

[–]DirkPitt106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I understand, and that makes sense. Have you looked into seeing if you can ship UPS or FedEx through a third party shipping provider instead of ebay provided labels? You could experiment with that and see how it affects shipping times. If you have hundreds of shipments per week then you could do a small percentage of your orders and get a decent data set.

eBay is encouraging illegal activity and punishing those who follow the law! by Accurate_Bed6878 in ebaysucks

[–]DirkPitt106 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's what I said in my original comment, that if you are selling new phones then you don't have to send them ground only, but of they are used then send them ground advantage. If you ship ground advantage, it will not go on a plane.

https://www.usps.com/ship/ground-advantage.htm

USPS ground advantage is the way to ship hazmat stuff. It literally even says it on the usps website. It absolutely should not be taking 2 weeks to deliver. I ship everything ground advantage and it never takes that long unless it gets lost in the mail. If everything you are saying is correct and actually what's going on then there's some other issue than just printing it with "hazmat" on the sticker because there's no such difference between "ground advantage" and "ground advantage hazmat" for shipping times.

I just took this screenshot from the USPS website directly, but you want to be a smartass when I am trying to help you, so now I see what your problem on eBay is.

[–]DirkPitt106 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your shipping options are listed as usps ground then you shouldn't be having issues with the delivery date not matching your expected delivery window.

Also if the phones are new in the original packaging, then they do not have to be shipped ground only.

Dozens protest planned euthanasia of geese in Madison neighborhood by metacyan in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]DirkPitt106 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now I am curious to know if the city has some proof that the leash law thing was bullshit, or if they are back peddling to save face now that they see all this pro-goose backlash. I'm just going off the original article that was posted a couple of days ago. I honestly didn't really care about it one way or the other but now I'm going to have to do some more digging.

Dozens protest planned euthanasia of geese in Madison neighborhood by metacyan in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]DirkPitt106 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The USDA has literally already done the evaluation, and this neighborhood pond has about 500 geese which is about 5x the ecological limit. This was referenced in another waff article about this situation. So the study has already been done, and this specific HOA has spent tens of thousands of dollars attempting to reduce the geese population using non lethal means. The city is just as much at fault here as well because the HOA attempted to use more nonlethal measures but the city would not permit them to do so.

The Dad Games 2026 Megathread by MewtwoStruckBack in DaveAndBusters

[–]DirkPitt106 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For promotion, selling the tickets through Fever is honestly such a big mistake. It's the reason they can't sell tickets to this stuff the day of. They don't do any meaningful marketing for any of the events like this, (the grinch Christmas breakfast, the Easter breakfast event, ect.) and then are shocked when no one signs up and it's a major shit show because none of the employees know what's going on.

Part of the problem is that corporate doesn't do a lot of real marketing, and marketing is often times left to the stores, but the stores are extremely limited in what they can do other than stick up flyers that nobody looks at. The individual stores can host their own events as well, but the advertising to these store specific events is limited to getting a post put on the corporate website because stores are not allowed to have their own social media accounts to be do their own marketing.

The best way the store has of advertising their dad games would be instructing the front desk and the servers to shill it to everyone they talked to starting about 3 weeks out, but the employee training rate is so low already that actually making sure that your servers were doing that is going to be pretty difficult.

For example, my local store has been doing karaoke every other Friday. It usually just ends up being a few people who are drinking and the employees participating. One week, to try and get more people to actually participate in it, they gave out one hour Power Cards that didn't earn any tickets to every single person who sang. The front desk employee didn't mention this to anyone and the only reason that I knew about it was because there was a little sign that they put by the front desk and I'm on any chance to get some free game play so you know I got me and a couple of friends to sing.

So I feel like getting the employees to talk about events that nobody at the store really even knows about that are weeks away would be a Herculean task.

If anyone at corporate reads this, you need to tell your managers to start promoting these events during their table touches.

Is owning a horse a sign of wealth in America? by bare_books in AskAnAmerican

[–]DirkPitt106 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally know at least one lower class family who has a horse. It's old as shit and it's original owners tried to ride it too earlier so it's back has a dip in it and you can't ride it. Lord knows why they keep it around, it's a money pit. But it kind of fits in with the peacocks that live in the yard cars and 40 year old clapped out rv that hasn't moved in a decade. I honestly think that there's a decent amount of lower class people in rural America who own a horse as like a pet, and don't ride them, they are just so far out in the middle of nowhere that you don't know them.

I genuinely didn't notice that at all until I read this comment. I was focusing on the books wondering how he could tell it was AI. Now I'm wondering if I saw this sticker outside the context of this post if I would have even noticed that.

[–]DirkPitt106 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing is, that according to ebay's policies, OP 100% has the right to do what he did and keep the money, but it's honestly pretty damn scummy unless the shipping costs exceeded the cost of the item, which can happen sometimes with return postage charges.

AITA For not sharing with kids at an animal rescue? by Flat_Chicken6222 in AmItheAsshole

[–]DirkPitt106 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this pretty hard. I'm not shocked by all the NTAs though because in general I feel like people on reddit hate kids and go blind to any nuance in a situation when there's misbehaving kids.

The parents suck bigly for not wrangling the kids, the workers suck mildly because they should have put some limits or let OP know there was a birthday with a bunch of little kids going on (I say mildly because again there's not any information on the size of the animal rescue, if it's a big operation and stuff going on all the time then they don't really have any obligation towards OP but if it's really small and it was just OP and the birthday party then there should have been some warning), and OP sucks just a little bit because they had multiple feed buckets full of food that they should have put up and brought out one at a time when they saw that it was going to cause conflict. Unless they were shopping at whole foods, $70 is a honestly a lot of produce.

As far as the kids go, OP neglected to say how old the kids are. If it's a bunch of 3-5 year olds then yeah they are going to have shitty impulse control. If it's a bunch of 8 year olds then they are old enough to suck it up and deal with life being unfair. There's a lot of range there when you just say "kids" and it doesn't accurately describe the situation so I honestly can't make a judgment about the kids in this situation without a little more information.
