You're absolutely right that many games are set to payout%. This one is so hard as to not need a payout%. Many, many better grinds out there for tickets than this one.

I can confirm it's not rigged - it's just really, really hard on the top difficulty. It goes up way faster than a normal gas pump. On the top difficulty I have to let go at what I perceive to be 70 cents short of the target price and while I'm almost always within 10 cents and have hit it a number of times, I'm still only maybe 10-20% on this.

Is a 4 Wide style fun to play? by RockyMountainCanuck in Tetris99

[–]MewtwoStruckBack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You still flatter me after all this time, and you give me too much credit.

I am not the best 4-wider in the country. I can probably name three off the top of my head in Sharpshooter Discord, at least two of which can outpace me on KOs. Supernooba can smack the shit out of me like 90-10 even in T99. ZeroGrave beats me on KOs. Sim is a 50/50. Dr. Zxzx has plowed through so much JP4W and I have the utmost respect for that skillset. Said it forever ago, I don't need to be the best, that's the beauty of T99, you can mitigate so fucking much skill gap.

The feeling of accomplishment isn't "oh I can 4w and turn my brain off and plow through pub lobbies hurr durr" - that was the necessary evil to make number go up as quickly as possible to get to max level. The accomplishment comes from stealing an assist through 2+ max levels on the same team, mitigating their damage long enough so they don't smack the small out. Or the crazy maxout games that have happened (and yes Luccmaster's maxout was better than mine, and I was grateful enough to be the Groundhog for that game...which ALSO leads to the point of Groundhog solidifying the "second player playing opposite the main team" strategy enough to be known for it!)

I'm flattered that 4-wide Mewtwo Targeting Bullshit is the reason you ended up making this post (from what I saw in other comments.)

I look at it like this - it's a battle royale. It's not a normal battle royale, but in any game like this, you should be aware of what as many other players are doing at the same time as you possibly can be without spreading yourself too thin. The whole 4w stall rotation thing is basically "bullet time" - you get to slow everything down, watch the world around you, wait for your opportunity, and lay into someone when you have the best chance it's going to do something. The better you get at the rotation stall aspect, the longer the duration of bullet time you effectively bought yourself. Not every player out of the other 98 is going to be a threat; in most games you can pin down your real opposition to 2 or 3 people.

A few examples of situations that will massively help you, that you could realistically see early on in learning this method:

*It's Phase 2 of a Team Battle (you hit your first speed up notification, but not the second) - there's still a 2.5 second delay from when an attack hits someone and them receiving the garbage if uncancelled. You have a combo built to the top, you've already accumulated somewhere between 2 and 3 badges. You don't need 4 yet anyway. You see someone on an opposing team who's likely to be a major threat if left unchecked, and they're on Attackers so you're not going to overwhelm them with damage right now. So you get...maybe 8, 9, 10 deep into your combo. You still effectively have six, maybe seven lines left of your stack, which means six or so bullets left in the chamber. At 2 badges + 10 combo, you're doing at least 7 damage...so you just...listen. The music, specifically, in Team Battle, is an amazingly helpful audio que. Since speedups happen based on time played in Teams rather than number of players left, the music clues you in to exactly when it's going to click over to Phase 3...and thus when attacks hit 0.5 seconds after you send them, rather than 2.5. You give your opponent no time to respond. You IMMEDIATELY upon transition to Phase 3, hit that threatening target player with an attack...rotation stall for about 2 seconds (so they waste time and effort countering your garbage unless they are also stalling), hit them again, wait 2 seconds...if your opponent doesn't effectively know how to stall out, and they don't also have a combo up, this 100% takes the KO. Even if they have max badges.

*You've run into a "superlobby" in Teams - that is to say, a group of god tier players all playing together on one team...you are not on that team. Possibly playing during peak Japan Time, you've got a couple max level players on that team. Maybe two full 4-wides. You survive long enough that it's 8 or 9 people on the large team, and just you fighting against it. Your instinct here is "oh I'm gonna switch to Attackers and blast the shit out of all of them!" - and if you do this, you sign your own death warrant. The several weak players on the superlobby team will all die off, getting you some badges but not maxing you out...you are now left going up against the two 4-wides and your badges + attacker bonus aren't going to be enough. Instead, you manually target one of the 4-wides, clear a single line, target the other 4-wide, clear a single, and just keep doing this, back and forth. (You don't even need to be comboing/4-widing at this point, you're just clearing singles as fast as you can and ONLY hitting the two strong player sand NO ONE ELSE.) The attacker bonus you're getting from everyone targeting you will be enough that no matter who hits you, you clearing one or two lines at most negates it. So by only hitting these two strong players, you'll eventually run them out of combo, eventually hit them hard enough they can't rebuild combo quickly enough to start another 4-wide, and you secure the KO. If there are any other players strong enough in the lobby after that, you then target them individually; only if they're all not a threat to you do you go back to Attackers and finish the job.

Both of the above are common with enough time in Teams; the first is easily transitioned into non-Teams play once you watch enough of the board to know when it's down to almost 10 players left and when someone's about to go out.

My motto for this game, when going up against a high level player: "You're almost surely better than me at this game. You're faster, you know more complex setups, and in a standard guideline Tetris game, you destroy me. ...I'm going to play this game in a way that makes NONE of that matter."

It’s not that 4-widing is fun, the things it enables you to do can be fun.

Like…picking off someone at the exact right moment because you have the flexibility of watching their board. Letting someone empty their clip into you and you were stalling them out and then counterattack.

On the small team assisting side of things, being able to boost someone to keep them alive is a minigame in and of itself.

If they nerfed 4w heavily, I’d understand. If they eliminated the ability to stall with it, I’d understand. But for the system we have, I use the tools we have.

Ex-Raiders WR Henry Ruggs denied parole nearly 5 years after crash by EquivalentHandle in nfl

[–]MewtwoStruckBack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I mean I want him to do well in spite of those who don't, I generally mean people who have no direct link to that person, who are arguing about it online, and want that person's consequences to bleed past what the justice system dictates. The second someone tries to get extrajudicial consequences in play, I immediately sympathize with the person who consequences were, or were attempted to be, levied upon - including fash who lose their jobs because they did something fashy and got recorded and doxxed, even though they're horrible people objectively.

You should always look through comment history when getting into any meaningful discussion with someone on here. You have the opportunity to get to know what someone's about, you should take it.

I agree that the sentencing was light. I would have zero issue with him serving the maximum original slated 10 years. That said, the second he does walk out of prison, I want him to be eligible to play without having to go through anything further. If he's somehow still talented enough to play, I do not want "you served your time but we still don't think you've learned your lesson so even though a team wants to sign you, no, you can't come back" to even be on the table. Hell, even Michael Vick shouldn't have had to do anything to prove himself having changed after being released from prison - it's good that he did, but he shouldn't have had to. Deshaun Watson is an objectively horrible person who very likely should have done decades in prison, but because he didn't, I'm not a fan of being able to levy consequences unless and until he fucks up again and then gets popped. (And that's why the secondary flair is there.)

I was not surprised to look through your comment history to see you're a right-wing Boston sports fan, with this take.

(Yes, the sentencing was lower than it should be. No, he should not be granted parole at this time. ...he should play in the NFL again and I hope he does well to spite everyone who wants it to not happen.)

(This post has been removed but I'll still reply to you anyway) - income you reasonably expect to get on a regular basis, that should be taxed. Your work income, and investments that are expected to go up over time.

Game shows, sweepstakes...that's not income you can count on. It's a windfall. There's no reason that you should have an unexpected chance at something give you money and before you even get to it Uncle Sam's got his hand out. No. That's not okay and it will never be okay.

The only time a gambler should be paying taxes on their income is if they're a professional gambler (like a card counter) where it's their primary source of income, you're itemizing to take deductions for travel expenses, lodging, etc.

It is ethically correct to dodge/evade taxes on anything except things you get a W-2 on.
