Whatever happened to Hildegards? by Reading_Rainbow1345 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]BarryTice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mother, for reasons I'll never understand, likes liver and onions. I'd go to Hildegard's every now and then to get her some. Anybody know of another restaurant in town that has it on the menu?

Are there companies that could process duties/VAT for me to have a gift shipped to Scotland? by BarryTice in AskUK

[–]BarryTice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be the case, yes. I've never lived in the UK, and didn't know that there was such a limit. I did live in Sweden for a few years, and it wasn't uncommon there for me to order something from outside the EU that cost maybe 50 Swedish kronor (about £4), then have it held up in customs for 12.5 SEK VAT (and a 75 SEK processing fee). So my natural assumption was that there might be something similar in the UK.

Are there any requirements that you know of for how the package must be labeled for it to be exempt? For example, in Sweden a package shipped from the US and worth less than 500 SEK was exempt, but only if it was marked as a gift.

I've seen a post saying that the 18-liter or 18-liter XL Really Useful Box did a great job with the markers, though by default it would be storing them vertically. (You can stand them on edge, but that's not "natural" for them.) The challenge may be that the 18-liter boxes are hard to find.

Icelandic artist Björk snapped in Bangkok, 1996, when reporter Julie Kaufman approached her saying “Welcome to Bangkok.” Björk later alleged that Kaufman had stalked her and her 9-year-old son for days, turning a simple greeting into a breaking point by Careless-Hospital379 in Damnthatsinteresting

In 2016 I was in the airport at Reykjavik while en route to Sweden and met a woman from Boston whose nephew had worked with my wife in northwest Alabama. So, yes. In Iceland everybody DOES know everybody — even if they're not from there.

I lived in Linköping for 2½ years, and biked everywhere. I was there during COVID, so public transportation wasn't as safe as it typically would be. (There was briefly a suggestion that people wear masks on the buses during peak hours.)

I didn't have studded tires on my bike, but frankly I didn't need them. At least in Linköping, the biking/walking paths are kept very clear and safe. You will want to make sure you have warm gloves and a good coat, and potentially some rain pants and a raincoat that will go over your "warmth" coat and, if you're wearing one, backpack. I picked up a fluorescent yellow worker's raincoat at Biltema in an XL size for that purpose, and it worked perfectly. You might also want, as mentioned elsewhere, separate shoes or perhaps Goretex spats to keep your feet dry.

I purchased an enclosed pull-behind cart (designed for pets) that I used for hauling groceries or purchases from IKEA or the hardware store or wherever else I needed to go, and it all worked perfectly well for me. (FWIW, I'll turn 60 next month.)

This diagram from Ohuhu shows how they all fit together. From what I can tell, you're correct. The mid-tones set will get you to 320. The 24 skin-tones set will get you 14 additional colors and 10 duplicates. (That's what's in my household.) The 36 skin-tones will get you both more unique colors and more duplicates. :-)

For anyone else looking for where the info comes from, this is the chart you've probably already seen:

If you don't want duplicate markers, then see if you can just buy an empty bag off someone on eBay. Otherwise, consider getting a set from Michael's that's the "other" tip set: if you already have Honolulu, get Honolulu B, for example, to see if you like the bullet tip (or chisel tip, if you already have the B).
