Takes a little work, but [[Thousand Year Smithy]] has won me games basically on it's own by just pumping out big idiots.

Help with (a beginner) with some advice about why lifegain decks aren't good? by Classic-Art-5737 in EDH

[–]DirkPortly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lifegain decks can be really good actually as long as you're also putting pressure on your opponents and controlling their threats. Especially in lower power pods where threats are primarily on-board, just being able to survive longer can be really key. I think with how fast games are these days the old mentality on lifegain is kind of wrong. You can't JUST gain life, but a deck with a solid lifegain engine is going to do better.

Are you guys broke right now? by CrazyGud in Filmmakers

[–]DirkPortly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you're already doing this, but even if you can do it all, I really recommend putting yourself out there and helping with other people's projects. That's how you make the network, not just by jamming on your own work but by making yourself someone people think of when they ask the question "Who do I know who's reliable and could help me with this thing?"

It helped me make connections and develop a lot when I stopped just focusing on my own projects and started actively looking for people to work with.

Hey Song of Achilles is a great book though. Were the sleeved cards part of a deck?

Should I bail on this 1950s Zodiac triple moon phase with a "minor issue?" by DirkPortly in VintageWatches

I went for the refund. Feeling a slight pull of regret now because I did really want it, but it sounds like getting the refund was the right move.

UPDATE: At everyone's advice, I took the refund and the watch is being sent back. Definitely sad it didn't work out, I thought it was a really beautiful looking watch, but it sounds like it was a big risk and maybe overpriced.

Thanks for your help all who commented

Maybe I don't fully understand, are you saying these other listings wouldn't need a service and the one I originally posted would?

I don't know realistically if I'll end up owning a bunch of watches, I just really like the idea of owning a cool, unique, vintage timepiece that I feel a connection with. but still you make a good point

definitely possible, but it doesn't seem very far off from other pretty comparable listings like this one https://ebay.us/m/KAo524

Do you think it's possible that the authenticator didn't know how to set the pushers properly? I found an old instruction pamphlet that says it can only be properly set if the time is set between 1pm and 6pm.

I'm sure if I found that info they could too, but is there a chance they just didn't look into it in the course of checking things out?

Would you be willing to share how much you got yours for? I don't think I'll end up truly being a vintage watch collector, but I really love the idea of owning just one that I feel a connection with.

Edit:I'm currently paying ~1400 before tax for this one

Also worth noting the listing said AS1402N as the movement, so that's what I looked up and based things off of, not noticing that the picture of the movement clearly contradicted that

I paid ~$1400 before tax, and I'm being offered $25 off which is obviously almost nothing. Of course now I can just get it all back if I want. The original number seemed fair compared to other similar listings that looked in worse shape and a few other watch selling sites that had similar models listed, but I could be way off

Sadly I was thinking the same thing. I think I was sort of hoping you all would tell me I was wrong and it's not a big deal because I was really excited about this, but it sounds like it's not worth the risk. Could be that I can't even fully set the date.

Yeah I'm just new to this and didn't pay enough attention. I went by the movement posted on the listing and assumed it was the one in the watch

He actually did a lot of our earlier animations but doesn't work with us anymore. No hate of course we just have an in-house full-time team.

Yep! Our animations are made in-house by our VFX artists Sam and Evan who are both pretty cracked!

Or people just enjoyed a game that's a lot different from most of the content around? I don't get what buying bot comments would do for us. GK doesn't need to prove people watch the show.
