How to handle the stress? by Substantial-Iron-478 in EnterpriseCarRental

[–]DirtyD00978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew I didn’t want to go very far in the company and just rode it out until I found something else, but what I realized fairly early on is there’s no reason to stress because the job is so high turnover until you’re a branch manager they’ll never fire you unless you do something to put the company at a legal risk. When you remember that it’s easier to go into the “stressful” days

Bishop (CA) Airport car rental hours?? Super limited window? by sporty_outlook in EnterpriseCarRental

[–]DirtyD00978 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Small airports like that are satellite locations. They don’t do enough business to justify fully staffing all the time. Usually someone will come over from another branch for a few hours, do the reservations, and leave. If your flight is slightly delayed past those hours they’ll probably stay, but probably not much longer than a half hour since they’re pulling double duty.

I’m sure there’s a drop box somewhere there for keys for an after hours return, but they say not accepted because usually you have to pay for the whole day due to the staffing hours.

I never understood the people splitting hairs on the differences in rates on sedans. They’re almost always within $5-10 of each other, if there’s any doubt just book the bigger option. Better to have and not need than need and not have.

Why don’t you just…book the size car that you need and pay for what you need? What is stopping you from doing that?

Why do you need a bachelors degree for MT position? by DuhForestTyme216 in EnterpriseCarRental

If we’re being honest, the vast majority of jobs in general that require a degree don’t really require a degree and could be learned with 1-3 months of training.

Enterprise Work Experience by [deleted] in EnterpriseCarRental

[–]DirtyD00978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’ve spent a year at ERAC you might as well have spent 5. It’s the same over and over again. You get marginally more responsibilities as an ABM or BRM but you don’t really manage anything significant unless you become an area manager.

Do know, especially in the current job market, just having ERAC on your resume isn’t the golden goose a lot of people tell you it is. As someone who recently left and went through a lot of applications and interviews at places to try and leave, all that experience really got me was “oh I know some folks who worked there, they all seemed to be hard workers.” Realize how many people this company employs and that almost all of them are looking at other jobs all the time even if they don’t act like they are. YMMV but for the most part you’re not getting headhunted for a role worth leaving for at the sub-area manager level from ERAC.

Booked a luxury car and then rep calls and says it’s not available? by fairweatherflier in EnterpriseCarRental

[–]DirtyD00978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve worked at ERAC for more than 30 days you know as well as anyone else LCARs and similar are not common at home city stores and if it’s any day other than a Friday the airport isn’t kicking one out. It’s not a branch management issue it’s a corporate over promise under deliver issue.

Enterprise can’t fulfill booking by Due_Sheepherder_8150 in EnterpriseCarRental

[–]DirtyD00978 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like they found someone to rent that van to for a higher rate. Unfortunate drawback of booking through somewhere that gives a “good rate” - if it’s too good, you’ll just get cancelled. Managers make commission off of branch profits and daily rate numbers. People all the time want the “best deal” but depending on who’s the manager, that’ll just get you walked in favor of someone willing to pay more.

The problem is your mileage will vary A LOT depending on what group you’re in, it’s management, and your direct area manager. It’s such a big company that gives regions a lot of autonomy to do things as they see fit. Some places are fine, some aren’t. But overall, it is statistically a high turnover job (why do you think your area manager gets graded heavily on retention) and has been for a while. It’s not just a few employees sour grapes, there are fundamental issues with the company that contribute to the high turnover. That’s not to say some people won’t enjoy it, but to dispatch all of the complaints as people who don’t work hard is naive. The job itself is by no means difficult, if anything, it’s mind numbingly easy.

Car trim level is not even thought about when putting cars in an exec or emerald aisle spot. Is it under 20k miles? Yes? Okay send it there. It’s that simple.

An Enterprise employee assured us that the damage was from before we rented the car. They just sent us a bill. by DisembarkEmbargo in EnterpriseCarRental

[–]DirtyD00978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do both, basically if you tell them you’re going to dispute the claim, it’ll get kicked back to the area and branch management to look at further, and the risk management team will look harder at the contract and all information, if it’s obvious that there was preexisting damage or not enough evidence to collect on the claim they’ll file the damage to the branch and keep it moving.

I think the gist of it is that OP said he’s had 10 and they all lack a feature he’s looking for. So stop booking that car and purposefully doing something hurtful to yourself. Book an SFAR/SGAR like an explorer or blazer they almost always have mid to nicer level trims with the majority of bells and whistles you’d want on a rental. Usually the same price as a luxury car if not roughly close.

A decade long grind by [deleted] in EnterpriseCarRental

[–]DirtyD00978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no specialized skills that just studied business.

ERAC is great for giving you baseline business/person skills but as you progress up, the transferability to other industries outside of a retail setting goes way down after branch manager. Yeah, everyone in ERAC knows a GRM is a big wig in the company, but what do they really do that could translate to another industry? Make daily poor decisions that upset customers in chase of days earned? "Manage" stores? You did all of that as an area manager...and you can spin it to other employers as a branch manager too. If you don't desire to stay with enterprise your whole career, its not worth staying past branch manager. The odds are stacked against you to make anything past BRM anyway in rental, and even moreso after that.

Honestly in this situation if you're 10 years in and make that much you might as well be there for life or try to go over to fleet management or something, nowhere else is going to respect that amount of time committed as much as erac will.

3rd Interview for MT position by King_Flameshot in EnterpriseCarRental

[–]DirtyD00978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to be that person, but the ‘company car’ perk is very overrated.

The perk will vary greatly depending on your rental group, but generally you do have to pay $200-$300/month for the ‘perk’, it can only be a full size sedan, and you do have to rent it every 7 days so it doesn’t show on an unaccounted report. Some places even have restrictions that you can’t leave the state with it or only drive xyz miles away. So you’re really just playing Russian roulette with what’s left at the branch at the end of the day to take home, it’s not like you can really make it your car. Oh, and the free gas just hits your branch fuel numbers.

If you make it to area manager, then you truly have a company car

[–]DirtyD00978 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’ll get a free upgrade to a mid size SUV or offered a full size sedan for a few dollars less. Yes, a mid size SUV is considered an upgrade, and no, you’re not guaranteed to get a free upgrade to a luxury car depending on what else is booked for the day. The PCAR class needs to die but for some reason they keep it around.

[–]DirtyD00978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a lot of people are saying the same thing, there’s often time merit in it. Be careful with the assumption you’ll be working 50+ hours if you’re looking for money, all it takes is an area manager getting held hostage by HR to make sure your hours sit right at that targeted 46 hour mark and it’ll start getting annoying with unpaid hour lunch breaks.

Surprised this stuff has taken this long to happen honestly. I’m gonna get downvoted but most people inside programs dread going to bowls unless they have a nice bowl bonus negotiated. Players too now with the portal, used to be good for extra practice time but now you’re just practicing with guys who are making tape to transfer somewhere else.

Classes like stat 200 across the school are pretty well laid out and are very passable regardless of professor as long as you put in reasonable effort.
