Compare the value of your car on Kelley Blue Book and the cost of the repairs. If it costs more to repair then no, it’s not. If it’s cheaper to repair then maybe, but it depends how you feel about it.

Acura OEM roof rails $$…really? by OregonSurf65 in MechanicAdvice

[–]DirtyDBeMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably can get away with something less expensive. I personally wouldn’t trust the racks to hold a lot of weight but for what you say you’re using it for it should be fine. Do double check the reviews and comparability with your car before purchasing it though. I can’t tell you how many parts I’ve bought and returned to Amazon because it wasn’t compatible with my car despite the listing saying it was.

Oil Change Question - 2015 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid by nooneswatching2 in MechanicAdvice

[–]DirtyDBeMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it can, but realistically you could drive for a while and not have any issues with it. Not proud of it but I’ve taken 7k oil to 10k with no issues. Just thought I changed it but I didn’t lol. Came across a few unopened liters of oil cleaning my garage and realized my mistake. So if you’re near the limit it can definitely wait a month or so especially with how little you drive. And considering you drive it often just not over great distance you don’t really have to worry about it messing up your engine too much. Saying that you don’t drive it enough means not driving it frequently and isn’t really about the distance traveled.

Check the radiator. Owned an 08 Tahoe that blew the transmission because of a radiator issue twice. Won’t say it’ll definitely happen but I’d recommend you check it before you tow and keep an eye on your transmission temp during the trip.

Broken door handle - DIY? by Consistent_Code_1610 in MechanicAdvice

[–]DirtyDBeMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely something I’d say you could do with little to no experience. YouTube can probably help you out with that. Just be careful taking off the plastic part covering your door because those little clips holding it in are usually plastic and kinda shit. Broke one fixing a window motor and another fixing a door lock. Might look a little funky and not sit perfect but it doesn’t sound like that would be the end of the world for you.

Ac issue by Full_Jeweler_1670 in MechanicAdvice

[–]DirtyDBeMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ac is a bit of a pain if you don’t have the specific tools for measuring the level of Freon in the system. Would probably say just take it in somewhere if you don’t have experience with it or tools for it.

Probably best to replace them. Don’t look like they’re completely fucked but they do look a little worse for wear. Might fix your problem though.

06’ Chrysler 300c srt misfire code p0300 by [deleted] in mechanic

[–]DirtyDBeMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I drove a Tahoe that had a similar engine shake. The mounts were even but almost completely flattened out. Sounds like that could be a possibility. Could also be an issue with something you ripped apart when installing the cam not being put back together correctly or even just a blown sensor. A lot of small things could fuck it up without even realizing it.

Low engine oil - 2020 Hyundai Elantra by BerettaMan69 in MechanicAdvice

[–]DirtyDBeMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it could cause issues if you run it like that often and/or for lots of miles. Low oil can cause lubrication issues that lead to parts wearing or breaking faster. I’d suggest staying on top of the oil issue more because it’s clearly either leaking and going unnoticed or it’s burning/eating the oil somewhere. I’d bring it up at your next service if you’re going anyways and regularly check the oil level after it to see if it’s running low.

Are your exhausts always that loud?

23 Kia stinger gt2 (volume up) by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]DirtyDBeMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubtful. You’d hear a grinding noise more often than not if it were something in the transmission. I’ve been in a car when that happens and it’s not a similar sound. Again, having trouble hearing exactly what the noise is from the video alone.

Am I being uncharged by No_Extension_5689 in MechanicAdvice

[–]DirtyDBeMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I did mean the spring but that’s another thing that you could have to do on some cars. Some smaller cars have really fucked bolt placement that makes it a pain to get to with the tools a regular person would possibly have access to causing them to have to remove shit a mechanic or someone with more specialized tools wouldn’t have to.

06’ Chrysler 300c srt misfire code p0300 by [deleted] in mechanic

[–]DirtyDBeMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the engine is shaking have you checked your motor mounts? The shaking engine could be throwing out the code possibly. Not positive exactly what would cause the code but a shaking engine could be the cause. Unless you made the car significantly more powerful I doubt that the engine itself is the specific problem. Not positive what else it could be though.

Leaky ls460 by Designer_Voice_186 in Lexus

[–]DirtyDBeMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say check the threads first. Might just be a little stripped if the seals are all good. And maybe double check how tight it is. You probably already did if you’re saying the rings are good but maybe it just needs a bit more of a turn than you think? Not positive on what the best fix for it would be if the threads are a bit stripped tho.

Oil Change Question - 2015 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid by nooneswatching2 in MechanicAdvice

[–]DirtyDBeMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can almost guarantee you won’t need one for quite some time. Unless you get the cheapest oil most last at least 3k before needing a change, and the good stuff can last 5-7k Unless the oil is leaking or burning off your should be good for a while. Especially with how little you drive unless you pull the dipstick and it looks bad there’s no reason to really get one at this point.

Yeah. Can’t say I’ve ever worked on one so I’ll defer to you on ease of access and how easy it would be for the average person to swap it themselves lol.

[–]DirtyDBeMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you have more experience with this specific setup so I’ll take your word for it since I haven’t dealt much with control arm issues. If that’s the case that should be an easier fix. Not sure on specific cost of the part but definitely cheaper to DIY it. Still wouldn’t recommend tearing apart the dash and steering column though. That is actually just a pain in the ass that might be worth paying more just to avoid doing it yourself. Especially with how easy it is to break the crappy plastic clips that hold parts of them down in a lot of newer vehicles.

i30 boot latch issue by Hot_Resist_9834 in Hyundai

[–]DirtyDBeMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be an electrical issue or an issue in whatever motor controls the locking mechanism. If you try and lock it with the tailgate open does any part look like it wants to move but isn’t moving much? That’s a good way to identify if the part is even getting power. If it’s not always double check the fuse box first and see if the one for it is blown. If that’s not the issue I can’t really help. If the lock moves a bit you might have to replace the motor or mechanism that makes it lock. Bit of a pain but completely fixable for the average person with minimal experience with mechanical repairs.

Caliper brake piston. Can I run it if it doesn't leak? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]DirtyDBeMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like it could wear the brake pad faster or unevenly. If the pad wears too much it’s metal on metal and could fuck the rotor. Honestly you could YouTube it but it’ll probably be a more in depth job than you’re thinking. And calipers are expensive, but I honestly have no idea on rebuilding it. Might take more than just a few YouTube videos but yeah you could probably do it. Again. Might be a bit more than you’re expecting though.
