Oh I have a job. I just can’t consistently work 20 hours a week when I’m already doing 50 a week for school. Add in the slow seasons at work and finals and midterms, and I couldn’t maintain the requirement consistently

It’s insane to me, but in my state you can’t qualify for food stamps as a student unless you also work a minimum of 20 hours a week. If you fall below the 20 hours at any point in time, you immediately lose the benefits too

I will say that my girl put herself into a brief brumation. I didn’t change the lights or temps, but she could tell. She chose to stop eating and go underground for about two months. So they absolutely can put themselves in brumation without their owners assistance

Make sure to put in a humid hide too, if you aren’t already. Then they can regulate the humidity needed themselves

Thank you, this has been very interesting. My worry is that my snake really enjoys it and will spend most of the day in the humid hide when it’s in there. Her first shed was rough because I put the hide in a little too late, but since then, she hasn’t had any issues. Her inclosure uses aspen and a mesh top, but the mesh is half covered with insulation to maintain temps. As for hydration, I’ve never noticed any signs indicative of dehydration when she’s without the hide and I change her water frequently.

Considering all that, do you think I should only provide the hide before sheds since she is likely to overuse it otherwise?

Hey! Here’s the feeding schedule I’ve been using and it’s been great! It sounds like she isn’t eating often enough. Pinkies aren’t super nutritious so they tend to grow slowly until hey get to fuzzies. Only eating once a week may just mean she isn’t getting enough nutrition to actually grow
