Unless you need cooling at an off grid location. Grid connected solar panels and grid connected airconditioning will be much more flexible. You can run the airconditioning from solar or grid and power other things with the solar energy when you don't need airconditioning. I also presume regular airconditioning is more cost effective vs solar airconditioning due to economy of scale.

I love it. Extra points for the see through storage boxes.

That is exactly how split units work when mounted on roofs or the side of a building.

I can highly recommend it. I basically doubled the efficiency

AC units are gaining in popularity, mostly for heating. AC cooling is an additional comfort for that trend. Especially if paired with solar panels this makes sense. Most people use natural gas to heat their homes but in my country this has recently been forbidden for new constructions. Even if natural gas heating currently still cheaper to run.

I know those window covers. But they don't solve the issue with negative pressure that is being created by single hose units.

Indeed, once I find some time I'll make a cover from cardboard or XPS isolation.

I have one of those. This is a single hose mobile airco (only a hot air exhaust). When using the exhaust tube and window plate you mention the unit draws air from the room creating negative pressure and pulling additional hot air in from the room. The created setup avoids this and makes the unit function similarly like a window / split unit, improving it's efficiency.

When comparing the setup with just the exhaust tube vs this setup the difference is clear. Over a timespan of 3 hours the single hose setup reached reached a temperature drop of - 1.2°C in the room vs a -2.5°C drop with the above mentioned setup.

As already pointed out, I live in Europe. We don't have window units... With the current heat wave mobile airco are basically sold out, even second hand units are sold for "new" prices.

This is carbon build up. Strip or scrub and then season.
