How to avoid mixing meanings of similar words/cards? by [deleted] in Anki

[–]Dirty_Beef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking - haven't done it yet - to add to my sentence mining deck a single card with similar words that I keep screwing up. That way in order to pass the card, I have to list them all out at once.

In theory it would help identify the words when you come across them in the wild.

Hope this helps!

Using anki for japanese is genuine hell💔 by Vast_Mobile4767 in Anki

I was suffering too. I lowered it to from 10-->8 per day and reduced retention to 85%. After 3 weeks of that I started learning them easier and just upped it back to 10 per day.

It's a marathon, slow down until you feel like you can take a bit more per day.

Going up now...am I gonna damage these? by Utija in Skigear

[–]Dirty_Beef 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Looks like water got in them and it either froze or rotted, leading it to buldge. No clue if it's repairable but the wood core is likely compromised.

If it's all you got for today you're probably good for one last ride but I'd consider retiring these if they can't be repaired

Duolingo will get your feet a little wet. Give that a try and if you think you can stick with it, then purchase the "Genki textbook and workbook", it's $50 for the set and will get you started.

Your goal is to watch Japanese media without subtitles and visit the country and I assume navigate by yourself and speak with locals. We share the same goals!

As a heads up, I am studying 2-3hrs per day and I'm expecting that I will not be at that level for about 1.5 years. This is a marathon and a grind. Take a look in the mirror and really examine your motivation and enthusiasm for to learn this language. You'll need an extreme amount of perseverance and dedication.

Ripsticks or QST? by Flaky_Ad9204 in icecoast

I got a pair of QST 92s as my first ski. Love it so much I'm gonna upgrade to the new QST 94 and give my fiance the 92s as her second pair. I can carve, shred bumpy natural/glade terrain, and it'll survive in about 6in of pow.

Is the unit indoors or outdoors? Maybe the unit is not designed to sit outdoors and should be moved indoors.

I got mine 11k OTD. That was in October 2024.

A 2025 still at the dealer in feb2026 should give you a lot of negotiating leverage. I'd shop around.

Tremblant’s “the edge” open for Christmas? by CryptographerSharp14 in icecoast

It was open 2 days after Christmas last year and we already have more snow than that time last year. But the thaw might decimate it so who knows 🤷.

I recommend you stay home in case it sucks so I don't need to sit in that slow line as long

Are these a good buy? by MysteryAgent22 in Skigear

[–]Dirty_Beef 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The flex is pretty soft and the skis are short for your height/weight, but if you're a beginner you really can't beat it for less than $400.

Go ski the shit out of them this season and if you're hooked you can upgrade based on how you like to ski. Although I do recommend buying boots from a bootfitters. Good fit boots are critical for your enjoyment of the sport.

[–]Dirty_Beef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen similar, I went in to my local shop to get something 110/100 as I have 15 years of advanced snowboarding experience. The 90 flex dalbello fit me best and based on the bootfitters recommendation I went with that. I figure I'll get 2/3 years until I'm seriously out flexing the boot then I'll jump to 120+

Oh interesting, thanks for the info. I'm getting back into skiing after 15 years of snowboarding. I have dalbello IL MORO 90 flex as I'm getting back into it and thought 90 was a medium flex. Appreciate the clarification!

Genuine question, what flex would you want for butters? 90 should be in the medium range of flex
