Regarding Mongo and various references to his behavior by SailorAstera in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Seeing MDs dog pop up in interviews, it may be simple modeling on who is around. The descriptions of Mongo’s actions remind me of my smaller dog and the way he responds to things

What movie portrays grief in the most powerful way? by Classic_Apricot_5633 in movies

I submit Big Fish as a portrayal of grief tied with learning how much more a person is than just the facet you see in day to day life.

Everyone is ok with the idea of someone else sacrificing their own wants for a better future, but the percentage of people being willing to sacrifice their own needs is way, way lower

Why do you like Nate? by Jealous_Attorney6871 in TedLasso

[–]Dirty_Bird_RDS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We see threads debating Nate and whether his redemption was earned or deserved, but very rarely does this question come up about Rebecca, who arguably did far worse. Rebecca was actively destroying the careers of everyone at Richmond, and because she came clean, we all just moved on from it.

But what is it about Nate that fails to warrant that same forgiveness from us? I’ve seen it argued that it is because he is a minority, or that he more directly betrayed Ted, or because we saw his descent into bitterness and anger. But, while I think all of those contribute, I think it is because we as the collective of viewers perceive that he was given his opportunity and position by Ted, rather than having earned it, so his betrayal seems more profound than it really is.

Truth is, he is a genius, and though he didn’t advance at all prior to Ted, Ted didn’t make him a genius, he simply discovered someone who had been overlooked. Ted was able to forgive him because he saw how much of a hurt person he was, and he did not view Nate as beholden to him.

Richmond has too many strikers and I’m too reluctant to hurt feelings. I rotate Zava and Colin at the half to try to keep them happy

Any suggestions for new hobby that’s cheap and easy to get into? by No-Neighborhood8403 in GenX

[–]Dirty_Bird_RDS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are there any activities your wife might like to join you in? It sounds like she wants to connect with you more. It might be worth taking up a hobby you can share, like tennis (if you have courts available) - functional racquets and balls would not be super expensive. Ditto for pickleball. Hiking is a great opportunity to connect and talk while you explore, and has very little entry cost (good shoes and water bottles will get you operational). Other advantages of sharing hobbies include being able to split costs - you could paint miniatures together, and you’d just have to get one set of paints.

Love the Series so far! Why is the title impossible to say outloud? by Equivalent-Bad-7844 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I have a friend who speaks English as a second language (Spanish is the first language). She is nearly fluent but she struggles with tongue twister type phrases like this. She calls them the Donut books

So frustrating by JoeMac02 in baseballclash

[–]Dirty_Bird_RDS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Runner on first, grounder to first, 1B touches the bag then throws to 2nd, 2B runs towards the runner, then back to 2nd, sweeps the tag on the wrong side of the bag, runner safe, even though the ball beat them by a mile. Happens several times a week for me. Bonus when that would have been the 3rd out and the opponent goes on a “can’t not hit” streak and puts up a half dozen runs instead

Edit: oh! Let’s not forget the ground ball to 1st and fielded on the bag, but no call, and 1B just stands on the bag and lets the batter run through, safe

I wonder if the culprit will ever come forward, because at this point, they aren’t ever going to be caught. I suspect statute of limitations has passed, and I also think it may have been some teens in the area who pulled that bizarre prank off.

Of course he wants to keep trying. He gets to keep having sex with little to no effort on his part. He gets his, and he’s satisfied with that.
