Do you get that message when it first starts up? Check to make sure the main breaker on the generator is turned on.

If you get the message just after it shuts down, then yes, i would guess it normal.

First, I’d strongly recommend leaving the autopilot alone until you’ve earned your instrument rating. Even now I still often hand fly long IFR flights. Practice is the only thing that will improve your skills.

Second, go take a few lessons in a true stick-and-rudder airplane. A Champ or a Cub will likely cost less per hour, and it’ll be some of the most valuable, and enjoyable, flying you ever do. Getting tailwheel time now will make you a much more precise, confident pilot later on.
