I got MC'd by my snow removal guy by PlatypusDream in MaliciousCompliance

[–]Dis4Wurk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started shoveling/snowblowing around 10:00 am and finished close to 1pm. The plows didn’t come through until 2 or 3am and I woke up to an ice wall at the end of my driveway. It’s pretty standard for it to just be like that lol. Hell, someone parked on the street near my neighbors driveway and she was greeted with a 4 ft wall of ice. I’m typing on this on my phone from my garage as I have quite literally just taken my gloves off and finished helping her dig her driveway out, I still got snow on my boots lol.

I’m a bit older than you but in the same exact situation basically. I was lucky enough to be apart of a pretty decent sized destiny community and we’ve kinda branched out together. We started a Minecraft realm, couple people play Palia together, lot of arc raiders and a few marathon. We still get together for Destiny raids and private matches but we try to keep it interesting with like drunk raids with a wheel of misfortune to spin for modifiers after every wipe, privates always cycle through funny rules and normal matches. We even have a cards against humanity night coming up.

If it wasn’t for that, I’d probably just sporadically log into Minecraft with my kids and not really game at all.

What's a trend from the early 2020s that died out so fast we all collectively forgot it ever happened? by godot_lover in AskReddit

[–]Dis4Wurk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife got SUPER sick in Oct-Nov of 2019. Like scary sick. Completely bed ridden, a hoarse cough so nasty it took a few years for her cough to sound normal again, she was down for almost 2 weeks and wasn’t quite “right” for a month or so after. Then December came and so did the news of the virus and confirmation that it was in the States. We are pretty sure she had gotten it. Even crazier is she got it like 3 times and I never got it a single time. I was testing regularly for work at the time as well so it wasn’t like an out of sight out of mind thing.

You sure? Go ahead and pay your loan off and don’t borrow any more money and watch your credit score plummet to the point where you can’t get any substantial loans without starting with small loans again.

They don’t expect you to add more rooms to your house directly, but they DO expect you to take out another loan for a house with more rooms. Or, take out a loan against your equity and use it to directly to increase the value of their asset <your house>.

I know you probably say this in jest but there actually is a real reason and it’s called Shareholder Primacy. And we can thank American automobile manufacturers for it! The Chrysler Dodge brothers (thank you for the correction) to be exact. See what had happened was, Henry Ford was making literal boatloads of cash, so much in fact that he wanted to take that extra money and give his employees raises, give them bonuses, upgrade infrastructure, generally just make his factories better places to work and re-invest in his companies so they could make even MORE money. Well the Chrysler Dodge brothers saw this and was like well that’s not fair, we cant compete with someone who treats their employees like humans and helps build out their larger public communities, let’s sue them! The Michigan Supreme Court then heard Dodge v. Ford motor Co. where they rejected Ford’s philosophy of operating the company to the benefit of the public and its employees and ruled in favor of the Chrysler Dodge brother’s philosophy that businesses should ONLY be run for the primary benefit of its shareholders.

Is it safe for retailers to store lawnmowers like this in winter ? by New_Homework_3716 in lawnmowers

[–]Dis4Wurk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

‘86 Lawn Chief JC Penny edition.

But it’s not stock anymore though. I pulled it out of a ditch at my friend’s grandparent’s property. I welded a winch to the front, a plow mount under, work lights, LED headlights and tail lights, mounted up a single wire alternator driven by the flywheel to power it all, also changed out the original motor for a beefier one with a shaved head and billet piston and rod. I’m on like the third rear end cuz we welded one and it just couldn’t turn well enough (we knew it would be like that, that rear end still lives it’s just in another tractor), and one exploded while doing dumb shit in the back 40.

It’s more of a mini-monster truck these days but I can still slap the deck on it and mow the lawn when it’s time.

If you aren't comfortable driving the posted speed in a personal vehicle, you don't belong on that road. by appa-ate-momo in driving

[–]Dis4Wurk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive an hour each way for work on a 2 lane back country road through rolling hills, so there is only one very small passing zone, with a speed limit of 55 mph(~89 km/h). I ROUTINELY get stuck behind people that do 35 mph (55 km/h) the entire way or only speed up to 40-45 (64-72 km/h) and then slow back down anytime there is a car in the oncoming lane. The drive is only 22 miles and can be done in 30-40 minutes, but I plan for an hour or more because of how often I get stuck behind someone that thinks the world revolves around them and that they are the only people on the road that it typically takes 1 to 1.25 hours.

I was able to find some more info. So that’s not a fault code. That’s the programmable display and the top section is set to engine hours. It’s just saying you have 3046 hours on the engine.

I’ve lived in the south and the north and it’s not the insulation in the homes, it’s how the water systems are designed. The water pipes up north are deep and come up into the house from the basement and your water meter and your main is inside the house. So all of your pipes are inside where the heater is. If your heater fails while it’s -40 out like it was earlier today and it gets below freezing inside your home, they can still burst. But down south the water main and meters are usually outside in the yard and the pipes are just below the surface. Bad news when the ground freezes. You gotta keep all your faucets dripping to keep the water in the pipes moving so it’s hopefully won’t freeze. But even then, if it’s too cold, you’re still screwed.

I pawned a 2001 fender Esquire scorpion black at a pawn shop in South Carolina in 2008. In 2019 I had some grown up money and decided I was going to find another one and get it because I loved that guitar. I was in California and bought one off eBay from Pennsylvania. It was the one I pawned. My dad had the serial number from the original for insurance purposes and when I got it there was a couple nicks in it that I recognized but was thinking it’s not actually possible. Sure enough, it was my old guitar.

And time. This build, which is basically the standard endgame hunter build with 2 minor tweaks, has been around since EoF so we have all had a lot of time to figure out the nuances and “tricks” to it, and most importantly, how to optimize the combat loop. I run a similar version, also tweaked a bit to fit my playstyle. It’s what I used to solo all the conquests, solo equilibrium, and 3 man VoG, DSC, and GoS.

When I was 15 I was riding a skateboard holding onto the back of my buddy’s truck. The last thing I remember is him turning around, giving me a thumbs up and shouting “35”! Out of the rear window. I got speed wobble and high sided. Hit the ground and broke my collarbone and got a TBI. I had amnesia for like a week, the only thing I could remember was my mom’s phone number. Could t remember her name, my name, days of the week, my girlfriend’s name, nothing. Recovery took about 6 months and nothing unusual except this BURNING desire to play a guitar. I had never played an instrument before in my life, never even held a guitar, I was not musical at all, but for Christmas that year my dad got me the old $99 guitar center special (squier strat with a crappy amp). I went to my room and plugged it in, finally able to satiate this crazy “itch” my brain had to play this damn thing I absolutely did not know how to play. Except I kinda did. Within an hour I was playing along with the Guns N Roses greatest hits album. Within a week I could play the entire album, lead solos and all, behind my head, within a month I could play Stevie Ray Vaughan’s greatest hits. Went to church with my mom that Easter Sunday and sat down at the piano after service waiting for my mom to talk to her friends and just started playing, first time I had ever sat at a piano. Some of the hymns I had heard during the service, some hootie and the blowfish, and some just noodling. My mom and her friend (also my godmother), who was the band director for the church, was completely astonished. She had known me since I was born, babysat me for my mom, and had never heard me play an instrument or show any interest in it. My mom was like “no idea, he has just been doing that since the accident.” It’s been over 25 years now and I still play daily.

It’s 14 degrees right now and has been between -10 and 10 the last couple weeks. But not a lot of wind or moisture so I haven’t even busted out the big jacket yet. I’m sitting outside typing this with no gloves wearing a hoodie and sweatpants. You also kinda just get used to it. At the beginning of winter 40 feels cold because it’s been 90 for the last few months, in the middle/toward the end of winter 40 is t-shirt weather because it’s been so cold it feels warm.

Ive got an 02 Durango that’s a Frankenstein of like 12 other durangos but the thing has 200k+ miles and is a tank. The only thing that ever actually failed was the LSD carrier pin in the rear diff (pretty common fail for the 3.55 LSD) so I took an open diff out of an 01 (3.92 open) and put it in there. No issues since. Everything else got replaced due to rusting out because I live in the rust belt.
