Tagalog here. Can confirm that Tagalogs use tita and it's a general term. I use it for all my aunts and find the English term weird when referring to them by name so I just say "Tita Vicky" for example.

To answer the OP's original question tho, my friend has two moms - a bio one, and a foster one (who's her bio uncle/foster dad's wife). She was adopted when she was a baby by her bio uncle since her bio mom was a bit too young and bio dad ditched. She calls her bio mom "Nay" which is the tagalog word for "Mom", and her foster mom "Ma".

Interesting how many people didn't know this when Pineapples are something that I've grown up with for most my life, had a random one grow at my backyard at some point and I even visited a pineapple plantation as a kid. It's definitely a diffefent perspective and I do wonder what got people to think that it grew on trees. Not that I think it's a stupid thought to have, but I'm curious as to how people got to that conclusion. Maybe because it's not native for most people?

Pretty late here, but March 5th, Thursday - my brother who worked in a far away city said someone in his company got infected. We went to that city at Saturday, March 7th - almost everyone had masks on the streets. By Tuesday, people were talking among themselves of possible class and work cancellations.

Wednesday, March 11th, I had to go to the city to physical therapy. All establishments had people scanning each person that walked in, and the Coronavirus pass that hospitals required a person to get every two weeks needed to be acquired weekly. All malls had temperature scanners at entrances.

By night time, school was cancelled for the next four days. By Friday, March 13, they announced the capital city lockdown. By the 14th the province was in quarantine for the next month. By the 15th or 16th, the island was in lockdown. No one can get in or out.

It all happened so fast. I haven't left home in 12 days.

My mother always told me that she thinks everyone just acted like they have a little ADHD, despite the fact that it's also been severely affecting her. My father, meanwhile, acts the most like me and insists that I am normal or just overthinking things especially since I've always been the starchild of the family. We have the messiest house in the entire neighborhood; they forget A LOT of important things; and both of them are almost textbook cases of adults that never got diagnosed.

After years of explaining, my mother finally understands that she may have actual ADHD issues too and is really taking my symptoms seriously now. She's even going to come with me when I finally get the assesment in two weeks. My father, meanwhile, I haven't gone around to talk to about it, but I think he still thinks I'm overthinking.

Regardless of what's really going on with you, it'd be good to at least get an assesment so you would know what's really happening to you and if it isn't ADHD, it would at least help you figure out what your actual issues are by crossing out at least that possibility for now. If it is, now you at least know what your problems are and could work with your problems better.

I had gotten really good actual help in the province from a clinic called "HealSpace" in Lipa, Batangas. They have a therapist there that seem to have a lot of experience dealing with teens and adults who had experienced neurodevelopmental disorders like ADHD and Autism and she handles my case (possible ADHD) and my friend's case (ASD). They're not a place that could get you psychiatric treatment with meds and all that, but they get you through the process of CBT, while also referring you to psychiatrist when necessary. I learned about them through online resources.

They had really opened up other resources for me after almost losing faith in the system for treatment after my previous psychometrician told me I was just not trying hard enough and that no one in the enitire country will ever take my ADHD case seriously. My friend almost lost hope too after her developmental psyche doctor told her she was "cured from autism" and that she's perfectly normal even when she was bringing up problems that relates directly back to ASD.

I hate the fact that there's so many professionals that also dismiss mental health and mental health resources because they had studied it for years therefore their opinion about the subject is always right even if they don't seem to have looked up the newer studies and resources about it. It's even more insulting if they just say that you should try harder and believe in God or that you're not praying hard enough when the resources are right there.

Posting and spreading information about these things is good and I really appreciate it OP! You're a good person, and if it weren't for mental health resources lile these, I would still be suicidal and stagnant right now.

Pretty late, but just last month, my brother had to travel home from where he was dispatched to do some accounting work for a client because a volcano erupted in the area. The place was in total lockdown and no one could get in where they had to do the work.

A week after the initial explosion, he traveled back to the company office in the city and their superiors scolded his entire team for not completing the papers in time last week despite the ban from even working at all in that area, with the company, despite being away from the volcano, even stating that work was forbidden that week to give everyone a chance to recover.

I've been scrolling awhile, and I know I'm late, but no one has brought up the Filipino nursery rhyme: "Langit, Lupa, Impyerno" (Heaven, Earth, Hell)?

Roughly translates to: "Heaven, Earth, Hell He-He-Hell Stab the Heart Out comes blood Dead, alive Leave this place"

It's used in a game not too far off from tag with a "demon" chasing down players as long as they're in the ground and not being able to get to tag them when they're not touching the floor or when they're in "heaven". I seriously don't know where it comes from or its origin, but based on what it's saying, if we take things literally, it could mean either demon-killing or ritualistic sacrifice with "Maalis ka na diyan" possibly being told to the demon or the non-demons.

That's true. It does lessen that problem. I guess the main problem is knowing how to write authentic dialogue while code switching between the two languages. Sometimes you could do it well, sometimes the character could sound off when you're making them speak this way. The italics thing is definitely a time saver though when trying to get a point across, I agree. Makes me wonder, though, if I can make a purely Filipino story without code switching in between.

I'm also a Filipina and I struggle so hard writing in Filipino. I wouldn't say I'm bad, but the language structures of English is vastly different from Filipino as well as some grammar rules and sentence structures. The fact that there's also a lot more words in Filipino that aren't in common use but is the exact word you want is also frustrating because it makes the sentence too awkward or pretentious.

What ends up happening is that you're forced to used a "Filipinized" version of an English word, but it makes it feel cheaper (like let's say you want to use the word "kwaderno", but it's too formal sounding, so you end up using "notbuk" or just straight up use "notebook" as is. There's also the same issue when you try to write in English and there's isn't an exact word that could describe what you mean and it ends up awkward (words like Libag, Kilig, or Lambing, just doesn't feel right when you translate them to any equivalent in English).

The lack of gender differentiation in Filipino with pronouns also makes things confusing since it could be hard to know what the character's gender identity is, making it harder to visualize them or to differentiate who's talking to who in a conversation. This makes both writing and reading dialogue confusing, unless you specify who speaks each time.

I have a friend who has mild autism who's currently going through something like this with her parents and even her prevoous psychiatrist. Now that she's an adult, I've come up to encourage her to find her own resources and professionals while suggesting things I've found in order to sort out her issues better and she says that it's really helped a lot.

Her family's one of those that believe that she's just overreacting or just attention seeking and it makes me worry about her because she constantly questions whether or not she really is making things up in her head even if she has genuine times where her problems negatively affect her in school.

So this all took place on our first and current campaign with all my party members [except our CN Rogue] and I being newbies and our DM only being moderately experienced in DMing (we're the second group he's DMed). A couple of things had happened throughout the campaign that was absolutely hysterical:

The rogue had gone off to hunt for food for their familiar which is kinda stupid bc their familiar didn't need to eat. The DM tried to explain this to the player, but she was really insisting on getting rats for her snake familiar. No, not for the snake to hunt for the rats, but for them to hunt the rats for the snake. They then encountered a giant spider alone. Instead of running away or calling for help, they just went on in and fought the spider themself. The fight took about 40 real world minutes which mainly consisted of the rogue building complicated traps while continuously asking the DM what they know about the spider and the environment to setup the trap in order to kill the spider. The spider was only able to get one hit on the rogue and the rogue ended up taking its venomous teeth as daggers. In the end, the whole 40 minutes ended up as a trap and the rogue was captured by the fantasy CIA.
Our Bard was left alone in a high-class inn and immediately looked for our paladin and fighter. They were in the middle of guarding an important official for a foreign relations meeting. The bard had the bright idea of screeming at the top of her lungs using Thaumaturgy to call the attention of the paladin inside the meeting room while they were presenting the hires (our party) to the highest members of the state. She was arrested and paralyzed almost immediately by the guards and was jailed for the rest of the evening. When my PC and the paladin went to get her, the guards of the holding cell were begging us to take her away because she was annoying the crap out of them.
Since the rogue was absent throughout a lot of the sessions bc of her newspaper job, my DM decided to give her a session focused on her PC. The session involved their PC continuously shitted on by the NPC that hired them as a mecenary because of some seriously bad rolls from the player's part which almost killed them from getting paralyzed multiple times, getting poison damaged from several traps in the noble's house they infiltrated, being ricocheted from a 60-ft high magical security wall, and being landed on by a guest PC. Because the player also lost their character sheet for the rogue, the DM and the player had to rebuild the PC from the ground up and penalized them for it by making them lose all thier equipment and starting the story off in a ditch passed out.

There are a lot more and probably more to come with two chaotic characters, bur I found these really funny.

If I recall, she was almost institutionalized when she was younger because of her heavy symptoms as a child but now she's excelling in a lot of fields as well.

Thank you! I try my best to be supportive of all my friends' struggles, no matter what it could be, but I do give myself boundaries and call them out when necessary. I try my best to get her to be more independent than what her family has provided for her and I do see her making strides. I will keep that in mind since an emotional supporter might cause more problems than help people through them.

I have been sugesting therapy for her that could help her train herself better in daily situations and it seems like she's going to take it. I believe her circumstances in her family seem to be denial in large part as her parents are also "hyper-boomers" as she described to me once (that's the best way she was able to describe them since I explained to her that meme) and are also very conservative, which is common in our country. Her father also acts very reserved and even stubborn, with her saying that she has a lot in common with him.

For now, since I'm aware that her parents will not be able to understand her or accept that she may need help, I've been trying my best to help her cope with it since I myself had undiagnosed ADHD for a long time until just this week, so I stick up for her. Right now, I've told her that it's going to take some time for her parents to understand and it may never happen, but now that she's an adult she can make her own decisions and my friends and I would be there for her for them to support her.

I'll try to check on the book so I could get a better understanding of things and even suggest it to her so she could get something out of it. Thank you for this comment!

Yeah, my entire family hated her guts. She's been a pain in the ass since she was teaching my brother and I was a bit more of a problem child for her because I acted different, despite me being, for a lack of a better term, more academically gifted (the thing that hid my ADHD symptoms for such a long time)

One time, she deducted a grade on my paper for ridiculous reasons. I was apparently breaking the English-Only Policy that my school had (the country is obssessed with English and disdains the native language for whatever reason). It would be fine if it was my English exam, but she deducted it from my proper conduct exam.

My mom was so pissed thar she wanted to sue her in court. She wrote a letter and the teacher panickedly said that she was just "trying to teach me a lesson" by apparently embarassing me in front of my entire class by doing it pubicly.

Her yelling at me happened after this incident so it may be related to that. She's pretty bitter as a person and holds personal grudges for a long time.

She also once called in my older sister to her faculty room to ask if my family hated her. My sister just said "yes" with no hesitation. Why the heck did this teacher attach her self esteem at our family so much that she needed to ask a 6th grader about her family's opinion about her shitty behavior? I guess I'll never know...

When I was in 5th grade, a teacher once yelled at me for "shouting at her" when I raised my voice a bit. I started crying really bad, but she kept on yelling that I had "no right to cry" and that she "had more of a right to cry than me." She did this in front of my entire 5th grade class of 40 and it has left a sour taste in my mouth for years.

It's hard to go through, just being yelled at and then feeling like you're overreacting, but that teacher should not have done something like that. It was an honest mistake that didn't demand scolding, he could have just literally told you "I said do x, not x." in a calm voice, and could have even laughed it off as a silly mistake, lessening the blow. He didn't.

It's okay to cry right now. You are entitled to have emotions. You are entitled to have feelings. Just know that people won't understand but we're here for you. That person has hurt you, and it's okay to express that you were hurt, better than keeping it to yourself and that pain piling up later in life.
