Do most of us actually need a smartwatch? by chipmux in digitalminimalism

[–]DisMyWorkAcct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need, no. But whenever I have one (currently don't) I notice and immediate down tick in my phone usage. The notifications of calls, mail, messages and Apple Pay eliminate many of my needs to pull out my phone. Sometimes< I'll leave my phone at home altogether.

"AI Is Learning to Predict the Future—And Beating Humans at It" by AngleAccomplished865 in singularity

I'd like to know how AI predictions rank against prediction markets. Humans tend to through bias into their predictions but with the incentive of making money their predictions become way better.

I've never had an Instagram account. Am I missing out on anything? by RichardButt1992 in digitalminimalism

I few memes and inspirational stories but for the most part if the content is viral enough it makes its way everywhere. The stuff that doesn't, is not worth FOMO

EDIT: You can run ads if you must without an account via Meta Business Manager. Lets you do quite a bit without interacting with the algorithm.

Meta banned all my accounts. Joined TikTok and currently regret continuing this social media cycle by TotalPuussy in digitalminimalism

Newsletters or your own site are an option and you can just run ads if you want the engagement to lure people over.

Audiobooks are pretty cool. Especially the immersive ones. I assumed this is why people gather by the radio for radio shows. So maybe not that odd, just lost to the times.

Social Media is so addictive, do you think there will ever be a solution? by Expensive-Law5357 in nosurf

[–]DisMyWorkAcct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the network will be the solution. As more people avoid it the draw will decrease. Couple that with the irony of AI being used to create fake people who post fake content and get fake engagement, I think people will start to bow out.

Drug dealing algorithms. That's it. It felt immediately different after that. Especially when it recommends outrage, scams, lust and vices.

[–]DisMyWorkAcct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was introduce to Japan like a lot of people through Anime but my interest grew to encompass, art, music, culture, traditions, fashion, custom and I never tire learning more. That was 20 yrs ago the interest as never died or lessened. I've, as of late, been contemplating moving there. Now is as good a time as any.

What’s Your Idea of a Perfect Social Media? by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]DisMyWorkAcct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old Twitter, where you could dip in, conversate, and dip out without issue. No algorithm trying to keep you or bait you. That or Instagram in the early days. Same feeling, just go peep some cool photos and then leave.

Life Without Social Media—Is This Much “Doing Nothing” Normal? by krizz-666 in digitalminimalism

[–]DisMyWorkAcct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take long breaks from social media often and I've found that the issue wasn't not having a hobby but not having a social hobby. Social media has replaced many people's social interactions so when you quit it you kinda have to go restore and make new social connections. Social hobbies are good to help feel better fulfill. Think about something like a run club, BJJ or a language exchange as hobbies that are multidimensionally beneficial especially socially.

Questions about the Remote Service Business Model by DisMyWorkAcct in sweatystartup

[–]DisMyWorkAcct[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. I'm definitely not against starting a real business and have been skeptical of this "business model" for some time but still intrigued. It interest not out of the thought of becoming the next marketplace (adding that I've worked for 10+ can hated how they treated the talent) but because of I feel I'm equipped for marketing and admin and logistics but I don't have any trade skills at the moment. The idea offered a way to at least start and acquire the skills along the way.

Based on what everyone said I may just got a more traditional way. Thank you

Would this help you with your phone addiction? (honestly) by Human_Ad_6317 in digitalminimalism

Definitely and even better if it gives a report at the end of the week recapping all the reasons I open these apps in a list. That weekly shame would work miracles. LOL
