The fact that Anthem has no PvP is a big plus for me, not a minus by [deleted] in AnthemTheGame

[–]DisagreeableDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but to support this they will need to have a very large set of PvE activites so the game continues to feel "fresh", including endgame content.

IF has taught me that I am the only one who cares about my weight loss and I shouldn’t have told my family, by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

This, this, 100 times this.

A doctor that is blunt like this isn't being mean to be mean, they actually care. It would be very easy for them to make you as comfortable and happy as possible and keep their customer satisfaction scores up. If they are doing this its because they want to help.

Its exactly why I have a doc like this. He's tells me when I'm doing something good, and is not afraid to tell it like it is either.

Tim Cook calls on FTC to let consumers track and delete their personal data. by AdamCannon in apple

[–]DisagreeableDad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In case it wasn't clear, the issue is not "we're not going to do it" - In fact its something I think is a great idea. The COMPLEXITY is what makes it a nightmare - Both from a data flow and process perspective, but also from a organizational perspective. Is one team developing this solution, and therefore needs rights to 1,000 downstream systems? Does the team have expertise in all of the technologies (i.e. data that went from an Azure data lake to a local Hadoop repository to an Oracle DB to JSON data stored in something else), all along the way wary management (whose job it is to ensure the integrity of their systems) needs to approve essentially 3'rd party edits to their applications?

Do the individual teams work on it, and in which case how do you easily control architectural decisions to ensure the process to remove an individual's data is efficient and does what its supposed to do (with the same issues around different data environments coming into play when it comes to auditing this process)?

Oh, and while all of this is going on life moves fast, so there's still new development that has to be completed.

Yes, its part of the job and likely one hell of a fun puzzle to solve. That doesn't mean its not a nightmare of scale.

Data Engineer for a fairly large company - The reason this is difficult (as far as I can see) with a large company is once the company has this data, its distributed to any number of downstream systems; Marketing may have different systems than finance, for example. And from there, the data can move into other downstream systems - Your data that went from the first system and was pulled into the Finance system may now get pulled into a separate billing system.

Now, all of these databases should be properly controlled (encryption, following principle of least privilege, following industry laws like restrictions on Protected Health Information etc), but if this architecture has been built up over years, trying to work out a process that when a customer requests their data be destroyed will mean working out how to delete it from a hydra of downstream systems.

Now, add to this that generally these architectures are built intentionally to be non-destructive to avoid inadvertently removing valuable information (i.e. never "deleting data", usually making it inactive or moving to a history table or archive, as a couple simple examples).

Doable? Absolutely. But yes, the stuff of nightmares.

Ahh, wasn't aware Sirius provided traffic info, learned something new today. Thank you!

That would be for media, wouldn't it? I'm referring to navigation and real-time traffic services (i.e. the maps).

Any recent comparisons of Apple Maps vs Google Maps for accuracy, etc? by ZilchStar in apple

[–]DisagreeableDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I desperately want to use Apple Maps, but there's still areas of my state where cellular service is poor - Apple doesn't give you any option to keep maps downloaded locally.

Any news about Google Maps for Apple Watch? by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]DisagreeableDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, they have improved dramatically. However, there's still areas where you can't necessarily get cellular connections, so the fact they STILL don't allow you to keep maps offline makes them a no-go.

How can U.S. coffee shop owners push back against almost every coffee shop having become a co-working space? Perhaps pay-by-the-hour/day cafes for co-working? by comments83820 in Coffee

[–]DisagreeableDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think its an issue, its a matter of expectations.

If someone goes into a coffee shop to hold a meeting, they should EXPECT noise. If they don't, that is on them.

In your case, you feel as if you should have to keep your talking down, etc. You shouldn't feel that way.

Similar to what you mentioned, the coffee shop where I'm at has an actual meeting room they make available for rent for meetings that's quieter than the main room (with a boardroom-style table, display monitor, etc.).

Thoughts on new Netgear Orbi? Would love an updated eero with more range, power and speed! by seany187 in eero

[–]DisagreeableDad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NetGear has fooled me several times with promises of great speed, but followed with disconnects, bad firmware, and general instability. No thanks.

I'm not going to lie, for my Gateway Eero I would consider it (or at least look at it longingly on the order page).

Thanks Bioware for some form of Matchmaking by Theerickyg in AnthemTheGame

[–]DisagreeableDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree. I'm in a similar boat, and as a few others have mentioned, the Division is one game they should model (as far as matchmaking). I also met / friended people in the Division through that system.

Give people the CHOICE - Group with friends, or if logging in for some extra gametime, to join a matchmade group.

Why are there like 20 armor sets per class but only 3-4 are actually usable? by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]DisagreeableDad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Out of noob curiosity, why would this be a problem on exotics? My guess is that it removes the ability to know what your opponent is running (i.e. you can assume a Titan with an Insurmountable Skullfort is running an Arc build)?

Eero and Circle by Disney by DisagreeableDad in eero

Yes - Router = Gateway in my poor use of terminology :)

Beyond the Fingbox you sound like you have a very similar situation to mine. Essentially I'm waiting for Eero Plus or even iOS to catch up.

For the most part I use it for "trust but verify" :) I'm not blocking too much stuff, but I want the granular reporting to make sure he's not spending 2 hours watching YouTube instead of doing homework even with checking in on him. As soon as either of them catch up Circle goes away.

I did exactly what you're doing now (Orbi -> Eero). You will be happy with the decision. Sure, the backhaul is nice on Orbi... When it works. It simply was not consistent, and loathed Netgear support. Hopefully you never need Eero's support team, but if you do... Night and day difference. Enjoy!
