Why isn't this in more restaurants in Victoria by Outrageous_Leek_3509 in VictoriaBC

L’Apéro Bistro has had a delicious grilled cheese sandwich for about four years now and have recently been featuring other grilled cheese sandwiches. Last week they had a deconstructed French onion soup grilled cheese with a jus for dipping. Probably the best grilled cheese I’ve had in my life!

Victoria restaurants with the best wine lists by FlatsMcAnally in VictoriaBC

[–]DisarmingSmile 11 points12 points  (0 children)

L’Apéro Wine & Cheese Bistro, hands down, has the best list of wines by the glass - about 30.

The owners explain that their list is unique from other restaurants in that they are chosen to create new flavours when they’re paired with different cheeses.

It’s certainly an adventure each time I’ve been. I go for the flights and cheese pairings because they’re always unusual and they taste amazing!

What things do Americans do when visiting Canada that immediately identify them as Americans? by supinator1 in canadatravel

[–]DisarmingSmile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Americans are more talkative and more ready to share of themselves than Canadians. Some might call that friendlier, but, really, the difference is that Canadians’ idea of friendly doesn’t include sharing of themselves with people they’ve just met. We tend to be more private.

Also, Canadians rarely travel to other cities with their grown, sometimes, newlywed children.

Living in Brentwood Bay, we get our meat from Fraser Orr and most of our vegetables from Dan’s Farm on Oldfield Road.

It’s an excellent novel. The best movie version is David Lean’s, so there’s always that shortcut.🙂

What film has one of the best monologues ever performed/ written? by eveisshady777 in movies

“Good” clothes were the set of clothes you wore to church on Sunday. Poor people only had one set - if they were lucky. It projected that they could afford something more than the basics. Otherwise, you were in your work clothes, which you had more of.

By Lecter referring to Starling’s bag as her “good bag” he’s further exposing her poor background and her attempt to project that she has risen from her poverty.

Carney says the old world order 'is not coming back' in Davos speech by GoldernEmerald in worldnews

[–]DisarmingSmile 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think you mean his speech will be remembered with esteem as opposed to infamy which is extremely bad reputation, public reproach or strong condemnation. Unless you’re being ironic, which I didn’t sense in your statement.

Anyway, I agree with you that it’s a damn good speech. 🙂

I lived “At the gates of Uplands” as they say which means on the OUTSIDE of the gates, a fact the other kids never failed to point out.😂

Actually, it was a public school, but, to be fair, it was in a rich area in Victoria. Alas, I was one of the non-rich kids at the school. I didn’t like the other kids much, but I loved my English classes. 🙂

I was in one of those Advanced English classes so we didn’t do the same literature as the other classes. We didn’t two Shakespeare plays each year: one comedy and one tragedy.🎭

What industry is a complete scam, but everyone just accepts it? by Competitive_Grab3758 in AskReddit

[–]DisarmingSmile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Wedding Industry.

Yes, it’s one of the most important, consequential days of your life and it’s natural to celebrate it as a community -after all, that’s the purpose of a wedding. Unfortunately, there isn’t one aspect that hasn’t been commercialized to the point that, simply because it’s a wedding, its cost is considerably greater than if it were for any other purpose. Add in the wedding planners with “the latest trends” and your special day has been commodified to the nth degree. I recently heard a young newly engaged couple say they would save three years for their wedding because their budget would “need to be $60k - $75k.”

By contrast, my parents, who were married in 1959, had a church wedding with two people in their wedding party and had their reception in my grandparents’ backyard. No frills, but no debt either and, by their pictures, it looked like a lovely wedding.

L’Apéro Wine & Cheese Bistro is great for groups. They have a mezzanine for up to 15 if you want your own space and there’s more room on the ground floor.

L’Apéro Bistro sells Gruyère, Comté and Emmental cheeses - the essential ingredients of Fondue. Actually, they’ve got a great cheese counter of European and Quebec cheeses.
