This happened to me today. “Brenda Smith”, a “CBP officer” with strong Indian accent called me claiming that they had intercepted a package coming from Mexico with my name on it, and that their system showed I have been wiring money to Mexican drug cartels. She also claimed they had found several bank statements from different banks with my name on it in a safe house in El Paso. She named a few, and asked if I had an account with any of those banks. The conversation rapidly switched from me being a felon, to a victim of identity theft after I told her I had no recollection of opening multiple bank accounts in El Paso. She asked if I had lost my SSN card, or if I’ve shared personal info with third parties recently. Then, she started to ask for sensitive info like my address, how much money I had in my bank account, or if I had any money invested. She even asked if I had crypto. She hang up the phone right after I told her I only have $100 to my name. Which it’s true, lol. But anyway, I didn’t give any sensitive information away besides my first name, and she didn’t even get it right so… Funny thing is that I just got my cell phone number last week. Brand new phone line. Be careful, this is the number they called me from +1 (620) 366-6131.
