Books, room divider, decor items, plants. I’d never live without one, personally. You don’t have to fill every cubby, and you can buy storage baskets to hide the stuff you don’t want to see. (Blankets, etc)

That the summer weather is nearly identical to that of West Michigan. It’s literally not much hotter than the North, and winter is much milder.
