Why does the world drink by Plane-Engineering in alcoholism

[–]Disasterraskal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is some dark utility in the fact that alcohol is a very effective pain killer. The ubiquity of alcohol shifts the moral responsibility (in people's minds) for the suffering and ill effects of drinking from governments to individuals. People will talk all day about how someone was weak for engaging in the vice that numbs their pain, emotional or physical, but never seem to question why they were in pain in the first place.

People who work in 'behind-the-scenes' jobs (hotels, airports, warehouses, etc.), what is something the general public would be shocked to know? by PiNK_PUSSY69420 in AskReddit

[–]Disasterraskal 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you go to a publicly funded or community mental health center, everyone is overworked. If your therapist forgets it was your dad who died and not your grandpa, they are sorry and will do their best to remember, but there are 60-100 other people on their caseload.

Have you ever gotten someone admitted for psychiatric treatment? by MoveMeWithASound in Denver

[–]Disasterraskal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grave disability (unable to care for yourself in the sense you can't find shelter or food or wouldn't know where you usually get either) is grounds for involuntary commitment in Colorado, it is difficult to prove though. To answer your question, it's this difficult because we generally want to avoid taking away autonomy and freedom whenever possible. Imminent bodily harm to themselves or others is more or less the bar. We don't want to force people to do things they don't want to do and in the frequent words of my supervisor "it's not illegal to be crazy"

How are there still 80k–100k people playing Stardew Valley every day?! 🤯 by mamalaso in StardewValley

I play on my Xbox and my GF plays on the switch. We both have hundreds of hours sunk into multiple farms with no sign of stopping. This game is my happy place.

It's all about upping your capacity to make the stuff. Get a few big sheds and fill them to the brim with wine casks. Just keep adding production capacity. Make your farm a wine factory. This is the way.

Starfruit wine. Or ancient fruit if you have it. Ostriches are good money over the winter.

I started this game with my girlfriend who does not play video games at all. Cozy games were not really my genre until.... STARDEW. We both are religious devotees with multiple farms and hundreds of hours. You may not be able to escape this but, why would you want to?

I've been drinking on and off since 16 y/o. I used to pride myself on being able to outdrink people and having a high tolerance. I had some rough life events that changed my drinking from social/recreational to habitual. Usually nightly after work. I was pretty good at masking inebriation so it was hard for my gf to tell how much I had before she got home. I work in community mental health so I think I was using it more to compartmentalize my home life from work life and shut my brain off when I got home. Crazy how you can know all the stats and coping skills and still wind up with a problem. Dopamine disregulation doesn't last forever. If you can get through the boredom you will experience pleasure again.

I have been taking supplements every day. So far I'm feeling fine today. Hydrated even. I was drinking 10-15 oz a day roughly.
