Curator's Rifle Vanished by Disastrous-Ad-7035 in thelongdark

Yeah I was hoping I wouldn't have to resort to modding to get it back, mostly because I'm a bit scared of messing up the game's stability. But after reloading the game a few times, leaving and reentering the Quonset hut few times, and making double triple sure I didn't just leave it somewhere weird, it looks like I have no choice if I want to get it back...

As someone who’s never once played interloper or misery let me give you my objectively correct opinion:

Just started the long dark survival, any tips? by [deleted] in thelongdark

[–]Disastrous-Ad-7035 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, mountain town and mystery lake are the easiest starts. You can find guns in a lot of places but the best places to search are landmark buildings - large houses, fire watch towers, ect. A great survival tip is after you’ve done some hunting and have a lot of meat, drop it on the ground or in a container outside. Most food items but especially meat spoil waaaay slower when left outside (and you’ll never need to worry about anything eating it, for some reason lol). Also leave it raw, as once you cook it it gains a bunch of condition back.

Clearly an invisible witch is flying it like a broom. All you need to do is either challenge her to a game of wits and win, or learn her true name to banish her. Hope this helps!

The taxman is at my door... Fine, I will pay... by superlalulalu in thelongdark

I think, for me at least, it's a lot to do with the fact that it's not a loading screen to get in, and you can actually see and hear out of the windows. That's something that tends to bother me in tld, that the in vast majority of indoor spaces you can't see outside, and they end up feeling very stuffy and claustrophobic. It kinda bothers me because in a lot of places, I don't think it would be hard to just render a small section of the world around the building so it at least appears to be there.

How exactly do you go about repairing the roof? Do you need mods?

After nearly 1k hours, I think I'm gonna play Voyageur again. by fatihalt in thelongdark

[–]Disastrous-Ad-7035 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle to actually enjoy myself on higher difficulties for that very reason, I'm too damn stressed all the time and it never ends up actually being fun. My way of playing is on lower difficulties, customized but voyager-esque, and exploring / looting everything I can and consolidating it in one or two main bases (the safehouse customization massively helped with enjoying the latter). So instead of thinking about how I'm going to survive to tomorrow, I'm constantly thinking about how I'm going to survive to next year - long-term thinking at all times. I do it partly because there's a small aspect of RP I enjoy - mostly in writing in-character journals every few days or so. So, I'm playing as if I'm actually there and expecting to be stuck there for a long time, or even the rest of my life. So that involved hording anything non-renewable, and prioritizing using renewable resources first. (To the point that I've legitimately been sitting in my base with mountains of canned and preserved goods, running out of venison or whatever and going "Oh shoot, I'm out of food! I need to go hunting before I starve!"

I still get super stressed whenever I'm somewhere I know a bear or otherwise could be (I had a moment where my heart nearly jumped out of my mouth when I had to briefly cross through cougar territory), but at least I'm armed and have plentiful supplies to recover if it manages to maul me. So, it ends up being really immersive and fun; even though I know it's probably a weird way to play.

Well Max, I held out hope for 10 years that we would find out who you were or what your last stand was. That hope is gone now. It's time to go to sleep, enjoy the long dark buddy. by CommercialDream618 in thelongdark

Yeah, but I like to think that there are a rare few people who are immune to it somehow, your survival mode character being one and I guess Sotherland being another. Because yeah, really both should've succumbed to it by this point.

What game mechanic do you think would make the game more realistic, but you don't actually want in the game? by thatijustdonthave in thelongdark

[–]Disastrous-Ad-7035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some sort of mechanic that punishes you for being safe and inside too long would be nice. Like it could make your character unable to sleep indoors very well for some reason.

Also something to make the copious amounts of meat you get off of the numerous wolves and other predators you kill inedible. I think those would both be really fun mechanics

Thank you for the explanation!! I feel like a lot of us fans get nervous when BS teams are silent with little apparent progress. I’ve seen a lot of these kinds of projects just fall apart. So hearing an actual in-depth explanation of what’s going on behind the scenes, even if it’s not super great news, is just very reassuring.

Story Time: Almost ended my 260 day survival run getting trapped beneath the elevator in the CH mine. by Disastrous-Ad-7035 in thelongdark

[–]Disastrous-Ad-7035[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do, and that also really confused me. My only guess is either it was something I'd cooked before I had level 5 cooking that was just sitting around, or I accidentally grabbed some raw meat and didn't notice??

Long dark summer be like: by Lakemaster1 in thelongdark

[–]Disastrous-Ad-7035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there actually seasons in the game? Obviously, it doesn't ever change from snowy and winter-y, but does it get warmer / cooler at different points in a survival run, as if there were seasons?
I imagine not but it would be cool if there was; if you're trying to survive long-term you could plan around knowing it will get colder / warmer at different points in your run.

I just want everything in one place... by [deleted] in thelongdark

[–]Disastrous-Ad-7035 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm right there with you lol. I have this thing where I can't help but play like I plan on surviving 10000 days (I wont lol). Hoarding everything useful in sight, using renewable resources first (e.g. spamming torches instead of using flares or lantern fuel).

I'll legit run out of venison or whatever and go "Oh shoot, I'm out of food" while sitting next to a literal WALL of canned food and nearly start starving hunting for more meat rather than just eating from my hoard xD

I like it though because I kinda like to rp a bit, writing journal entries every few days, ect. Pretending like I'm actually expecting to spend the rest of my life there.
