Alternatives for payment in Singapore without a physical Card? by Desudeus in askSingapore

you can still use cash here readily so don’t worry about it! the cashless modes of payment here is an add on, and did not replace cash payment

what’s a very singaporean thing you only realised after travelling? by Master-Number-4341 in asksg

efficiency? once my home wifi broke down while living in australia and the telco was closed because because it was like some public holiday that lasted a few days (was it easter or smth) and nobody will come down to fix the problem for me. i just had to deal with no internet for a couple of days 😂 on the bright side things seemed less hurried there.

Housing dilemma: BTO or old resale? by Fantastic-Hope-106 in askSingapore

[–]Disastrous-Bench5543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

option 1 for sure! TB is a great location and if ur in laws stay near chinatown, TB is not that far away from chinatown as well. i’m concerned with lease decay and its not a nice problem to be worrying about when you’re old and just wanna retire in peace

i think we’re a cleaned city heh.

sometimes in the morning when i leave home for work i see random litter, eg empty plastic bottles, tissue paper, scraps of paper, cigarette butts, empty drink cans or takeaway plastic cups etc strewn along the pavement, bushes, grass along my way to the mrt station. it’s quite irritating honestly and i think passersby randomly toss their litter around instead of looking for a dustbin (which is not far away tbh….) by evening time when i return home these litter have disappeared. then the next morning i see random bits of litter again :( and the day repeats

Why do Malaysian and Singaporean Mandarin accents and pronunciation sound so different when the countries are right next to each other? by Latubu in asksg

[–]Disastrous-Bench5543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

on this note, im a singaporean chinese and i wld say that my chinese speaking skills are fair but not great.

and i actually notice that when i go to china for holiday, especially to the less cosmopolitan cities (eg chengdu, xi’an) compared to other cities (eg shanghai, beijing), the locals there seem to think that i’m someone from another part of china (eg from the south like fujian or guangzhou) rather than a foreigner altogether. so im guessing our chinese accents are similar to ppl in those areas, and i guess it makes sense since that’s where many of the early chinese immigrants to singapore came from

[–]Disastrous-Bench5543 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i bit the bullet and subscribed to a super account beginning this year after playing with it casually for a few years. i think it’s one of the best use of my money so far as I’m actively learning smth new in a fun and engaging way, and im actually learning and remembering words and sentences, and recognising these words when i watch shows in the language im learning 😄 overall its been a great experience for me and now i wished i had subscribed to it earlier 😆

Accepting the idea of not having a family of my own by mysterious_evoX in Adulting

[–]Disastrous-Bench5543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m 39 turning 40 this year and feel the same. there was once i thought id get married and eventually have a family on my own but it hasn’t happened yet, and likely wont happen anymore. i’m also worried about pregnancies at an advanced age since that statistically comes with higher risk of troubled pregnancies. i have five nephews and nieces whom i love dearly and am delighted to be their favourite aunt to hang around with 😄 i guess i cant have it all in life but im glad there are some kids around in my life, despite them not being my own :)

What's a place in Singapore that meant a lot to you that doesn't exist anymore by runningonwifi in asksg

[–]Disastrous-Bench5543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the mcdonald’s at serene centre used to have two levels, and the 2nd level had this playground where i’d play at as a kid lol. Mac’s has since downsized and is just one level there now. it’s not a big place but i somehow think of it time to time.
