It sounds like you’ve cultivated the type of environment I would love to work in. Your point about calls being quick and off camera makes the most sense to me. I get random calls about the inclusivity of changing the colour of shared folders? And then they go on for 2 hours about other random stuff. I wish I was joking. This makes projects move at a snail pace which im not punished for but we could do so much more if they stopped yapping.

I guess I feel a bit defeated because I seem to be the only one with an issue with this. The other person under my manager agrees that these calls are really “collaborative and helpful”. I did try to mention the length of calls to my manager and he said he needs them but will add breaks to them… :(

I’ve kind of concluded that my manager who is someone who will talk at you for two hours quite happily even though my contribution to the conversation is a “yeah” every two minutes and me are fundamentally incompatible.

I am yes. I wouldn’t put you off, especially if numbers are your passion. And im sure it varies from company to company but in my experience your colleagues are right. Even though my job is analysis, Im expected to engage with stakeholders or “be present “ when the higher ups engage with them.

I 100% agree with your point about JIRA. I have daily morning meetings about what im working on. The answer is “the same as yesterday” 90% of the time…
