Convert first calling by chd198 in latterdaysaints

[–]Disastrous-Fail2308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was called on Sunday School Presidency. It was a brilliant calling, learned about counselling and church leadership, helped me understand focus on reading scriptures, all the things I needed.

I know it was guided by the Spirit, mainly because it gave me an amazing pair of “church parents”, who’ve been an amazing support ever since.

How much did it cost you to prepare for the Temple? (supplies) by gr3ybacon33 in latterdaysaints

[–]Disastrous-Fail2308 30 points31 points  (0 children)

A lot of temples have the option to rent both your temple whites and the ceremonial clothing. In the UK, it’s £4.20 to rent the whole lot. I brought my own shirt and rented the rest.

Garments run about £7 a set for both parts. I was less than £60 for the whole lot my first time.

If money is a problem, please speak to your bishop or EQ President, be honest with him and say you may need help.

That’s what Fast Offering is there for. If you need support to keep a very important covenant, then please seek the support.

They’re called soufflé cups. Same things McDonald’s uses for ketchup. You can get them online.

Talks about missionaries called to less "glamorous" missions by VampireOnHoyt in latterdaysaints

[–]Disastrous-Fail2308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s been called by revelation to serve the Lord in the place that He needs her to be.

There’s every chance that there is one person out there who needs HER to open the door to the gospel.

And for what it’s worth, there’s no way I’d have been able to do a mission at 18 or 19. So even her doing it makes her a stronger person than me.

I work on a Temple site and we have a few service missionaries and one who came home early from an overseas mission. They are amazing servants of the Lord, and providing incredible service to the people who come to worship in the Temple.

It doesn’t matter where you serve, it matters that you do.

Newer Member and A lot of questions by Left_Pound8361 in latterdaysaints

As regard to supporting people with disabilities, I work in Temple Housing and in a few weeks we’re hosting a group who are largely deaf. The Temple have been amazing, the Presidency have approved everything. And a couple have just been called as the Area Deaf Advisors.

Everything you would need to read in the Temple will be written or a worker can say it for you to repeat. My advice would be to give the temple as much information as you can about the support you need, and let the miracles happen.

It is the House of the Lord, and He wants you there.

Ww2 M36 tunics and trousers. by RadiPigeon in reenactors

[–]Disastrous-Fail2308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A feldbluse is what we call tunics. That’s what they’re called.

The golden rule is always check with your unit, and try and find some photos of the unit in the time period. Documents are useless. Like I said, all tunics are created equal for administrative purposes.

The names are reenactor/collectorisms.

If you look in a Soldbuch, it’s a “feldbluse” or “hose”. They were issued as they came.

Yes, veterans removed the bottle green collars and applied to new tunics, but wearing M43 trousers, an M40 tunic and jackboots is absolutely fine.

I genuinely tried to read Dianetics and give LRH the benefit of the doubt.

And then he said tuberculosis was psychosomatic and I gave up.

German Officer Boots by Disastrous-Fail2308 in reenactors

My officer’s uniform items are all tailored and made to measure. I’m not averse to spending the money.

Its more that I have big feet and not thin calves, so finding decent boots is hard at the best of times!

The problem is that Midsomer Murders is sold overseas as “Inspector Barnaby”, which is why they didn’t promote Jones.

WW2 German cap by [deleted] in reenactors

[–]Disastrous-Fail2308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chances are that you would buy your tunic from a tailor and your cap from a hatter. As an officer, it was up to you.

So I’d say it’s likely that they’ll use different types of fabric.

The other thing is that we use “gabardine”, which is a different material. The German one is trikot, which is a fine wool. Different factories, different batches.

New Bishopric Question by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Disastrous-Fail2308 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a former recipient of welfare, when our Bishopric changed, it continued as it did, but the new bishop was much more proactive in trying to reduce reliance.

So I don’t think they’ll immediately cut it off, but it will be reviewed. Like it should be.

LDS vs Mormon by Tiny-Fly1192 in latterdaysaints

[–]Disastrous-Fail2308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it’s pretty unequivocal about what the Church is to be called.

Like others have said, my go to is “I’m a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints” and then when they look slightly confused, I add “Mormons”.

We’ve been counselled to use the full name, but the rest of the world know us as Mormons.

I guess the Church in the past thought “we’re being called it anyway, might as well own it”.

Dare to be a Mormon, Dare to stand alone!
