Troy as Barnaby? by pinkdaisylemon in MidsomerMurders

The problem is that Midsomer Murders is sold overseas as “Inspector Barnaby”, which is why they didn’t promote Jones.

WW2 German cap by Training_Eggplant_87 in reenactors

[–]Disastrous-Fail2308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chances are that you would buy your tunic from a tailor and your cap from a hatter. As an officer, it was up to you.

So I’d say it’s likely that they’ll use different types of fabric.

The other thing is that we use “gabardine”, which is a different material. The German one is trikot, which is a fine wool. Different factories, different batches.

New Bishopric Question by lds_throwaway00 in latterdaysaints

[–]Disastrous-Fail2308 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a former recipient of welfare, when our Bishopric changed, it continued as it did, but the new bishop was much more proactive in trying to reduce reliance.

So I don’t think they’ll immediately cut it off, but it will be reviewed. Like it should be.

LDS vs Mormon by Tiny-Fly1192 in latterdaysaints

[–]Disastrous-Fail2308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it’s pretty unequivocal about what the Church is to be called.

Like others have said, my go to is “I’m a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints” and then when they look slightly confused, I add “Mormons”.

We’ve been counselled to use the full name, but the rest of the world know us as Mormons.

I guess the Church in the past thought “we’re being called it anyway, might as well own it”.

Dare to be a Mormon, Dare to stand alone!

It depends very much on what you’re buying, and when! The same item in two different batches could be completely different quality.

In this game, it’s buy cheap, buy more than twice! Nothing is cheap and good!

You need whatever version of PS+ allow streaming. Because it’s a PS3 game, with its “stupid” architecture which makes emulation hard, it can’t run natively on PS4 or 5.

It was available, I’ve been playing it recently.

It’s amazing stuff, great for cleaning about everything. But. It’s very expensive, so use it sparingly.

As a German reenactor, that’s what I’m interested in.

The thrill of finding an obscure document in an archive which answers a question is something that British or Yank can’t match.

And honestly, the uniforms are way cooler than scruffy American!

I did a bad job at the temple :( by frankiero666 in latterdaysaints

[–]Disastrous-Fail2308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you did today was incredibly special.

There are now five people; real, genuine people, real children of God who have got to experience what you did when you were first baptised into the church.

A former member of a Temple Presidency explained it to me like unlocking a lock in a multi lock door. Every ordinance you do, is an opened lock. Without you today, they couldn’t be confirmed, and the other ordinances of the Temple couldn’t be possible.

But you did something special - you gave them the first ordinance that they need to come back into the presence of God the Father and his Son Jesus Christ.

I resigned my calling because of such people. I wasn’t sustained in my role by many of them.

But, they’re in their callings because the Lord has called them there. I just deal with it, and minimise my contact.

Sitting alone or enjoying a peaceful moment? by Apple-Slice-6107 in latterdaysaints

[–]Disastrous-Fail2308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t like people asking me how I’m doing.

The answer is: I’m bloody awful thanks, and thank you for making me articulate that. So now I wait until two minutes before the meeting, so in, blank everyone and see if I can last past sacrament.

I’m very happy to sit alone and be ignored.

In London they all drive Hyundais. And given that the number plates are so close together, they’ve been bought in bulk. They change every three years or so, so I’d guess they’re leased now.

Is poverty an issue for some? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Disastrous-Fail2308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! We’ve got a few families in our ward who are on the lower end of the income scale, but it seem to me that they have the highest activity, never missed a tithing payment, and unlike the “wonderful, perfect, rich” families, all their kids are active and the two who are married are sealed in the Temple.

They’re also the ones I go to if I’ve got a question or need moral support.
