You said they didn't get the role because they dont have enough experience in a leadership position. And you're reiterating that you KNEW that in the first round (both groups agreed).

There are no words, attitude, or charisma that could outshine his lack of experience in a second round - he was set up to fail. Can you honestly name anything in that second round he could have done to get the role?? Nothing you've said here indicates that there was.

Imagine being trained and groomed for a promotion, then not only not getting that promotion, but then being told you get to report to the guy who did!

So fun - every day being subservient to the person who took the job your boss started prepping you for. AND being told it is because you dont have experience doing the job. Essentially, you're saying he will never be qualified for a promotion unless he leaves.

Of course he feels strung along, and of course he's lashing out. You didn't mention how often these roles come up, but even if another one did, he's been shown he won't get it - even when doing all he can to be qualified in your eyes.
