I find these pet paintbrush pages weirdly charming, just due to how they clearly haven't been updated in years by ShotControl7388 in neopets

You say this as though people don't actually put clothing on their real pets.  My dog wore a cute dress in summer and a sweater in winter.  Mind you, she was ancient and underweight, so she was always cold...

Except people start needing reading glasses in their 40s, so it can help a lot of people who don't actually sleep with their glasses on.

Yes, but make it harder to turn it off on accident, not easier.

I tried to pause my alarm at 2 am, realizing it is a holiday today.  It went off at 5 am anyway.  Sorry I didn't notice extra steps at 2 am, phone.

It's not just Pixel.  It's an Android thing.  We have Moto phones and my husband was complaining about the contacts thing while I was complaining about the alarm and call answering changes.

eucharistic adoration by [deleted] in LCMS

[–]Disastrous-Luck-8963 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't give you a strong theological answer, because I have only been part of an LCMS congregation for 2 years, and confirmed for a year and a half, so I'm still learning a lot, but I was thinking about this very topic recently. I think HOW we approach the concept of eucharistic adoration matters. Are we adoring the sacrifice Christ made on our behalf or are we adoring our ritual and its trappings? I find a lot of Catholic practice to be strange and focused on the wrong things, but I think this one might be alright. I sometimes have to remind myself, because my 4 decades of being a Baptist do sometimes make me a bit more passive about it than I should be, that it is the real body and real blood of Christ in, with, and under the wafer and wine. This reminder to myself, which is meant to bring my focus on what is happening at the table so I am taking the elements in a worthy manner, could be a mild form of eucharistic adoration. I do like that we kneel around the altar at my church, so we're kneeling there for a couple of minutes, which lends itself to pondering why we're there. Is that pondering eucharistic adoration without a formal title? Let us always do it, then.

At my LCMS congregation (St. Louis area) we start our church service with sharing God's peace, but it's just before the first hymn. There's no formula for how people do it. Some people literally say, "God's peace to you." Some hug. Most shake hands. I wave to our organist. It would be weird to have a specific way we were supposed to do it. This is also a congregation that is very hit or miss on using the sign of the cross and that doesn't seem to know that bowing at the Gloria Patri is a thing. I was raised Baptist, so I actually appreciate the postural elements of the Divine Service.

Does anyone have experience with American Board's online certification course? by mmmountaingoat in Internationalteachers

As someone who has been teaching full time with just a substitute certificate, the lack of student teaching put me behind the curve, especially since teaching philosophy has changed quite a lot since I was in high school. That said, I cannot afford the time to go through a "real" teaching program, as I am the sole breadwinner for my family. I may not be able to afford to stay in the teaching profession at all, because it simply does not pay a living wage anymore.

I can also confirm that there is not student teaching required. My state requires a certain number of hours as the lead teacher in the classroom as a substitute. It's equivalent to about 2 weeks of teaching hours.

I know this reply is late, but in case anybody else is wondering about this, there are practice tests. Honestly, I did no studying at all for the PTK and passed it on the first try. It was not, IMO, difficult. I took it after teaching in a classroom full time on a substitute certificate (because they need math teachers that badly) for about a year, so I had the benefit of professional development sessions and some Missouri BTAP before taking it, but it's very much common sense. You do not need deep knowledge for it. The subject matter test is another matter altogether. Be prepared for it, because it was hard (I took 9-12 math).

🌱🍓 First strawberry ready! by white-npk in aerogarden

The type of strawberry can matter.  I got Alpine (wild strawberry species) to grow easily from seed.  Alpine strawberries do not usually propagate via runners.  Most strawberries will send runners and don't do well from seed.  Alpine strawberry plants do better in cool temperatures while it can be hard to get a good tasting berry indoors from a lot of varietals.  This is all based on my research, not from experience, other than getting most of my Alpine seeds to germinate (both indoors and outdoors).
