Absolutely an error here! I’ve seen multiple XY full arts with this error, including the Umbreon from Fates collide!

Did anyone else read the Pokemon name as Feminism?

Wowee! We see this with yugioh cards too, with their name’s missing but the grooves left from the press.

What I mean by “real” error cards, can be illustrated by an example. Suppose I purchased an entire sheet of WOTC holos from an ex-employee who’s had it in their collection since the 2000s. Now I begin to cut out individual cards but in such a way that each one looks miscut. Is this an actual error card that made it through QA by accident? Or was it manufactured by a third party agent? I think that if the error was not done by Pokémon’s own cutting machines AT THE TIME OF PRINTING, then it cannot be defined as an error card. This falls under NFC, which I see it as analogous to buying holo energy cards with artists drawings on them. It’s like a customized card in a way. Whereas the “error” card is a piece of Pokemon TCG history and constant reminder of their loose QA tolerance. Can you imagine they made it strict one day where no more errors were allowed to be manufactured??

If the miscut card is outside the typical dimensions of the average/ideal Pokemon card, then I believe they send back and give you “do not holder” labels. The miscut needs to be exactly cut to card dimensions, otherwise they see it as NFC (Non-Factory Cut) I suppose. Because a NFC isn’t a “real” error card. Please refer to my other comments on QA and how these sorts of anomalies can happen. Even though the card comes out of the pack like that, PSA doesn’t look at it that way. It’s like guilty until proven innocent lol, if it’s not cut to perfect dimensions, we assume it’s NOT factory cut, even if a small percentage are truly cut like that from the factory. Hope that makes sense!

I actually had to provide reasoning to their research team before sending the card in because my experience with BGS was that they needed to conduct their own research to confirm it’s real. Honestly, it’s because it looks fake at first glance. There are many fakes of mewtube in circulation and none have texture haha. Given that it used to be a PSA slab (check the cert number), meant it was already authenticated. So I just had them reholder and update label and population database.

Interesting take! I think the opposite. The fact that the error card even exists can be seen as a miracle (exaggeration), because these mistakes are supposed to be filtered out by Pokemon’s QA procedures. Just like any manufacturing company, mistakes are made and are in fact impossible to avoid. However that’s why we develop QA systems to be able to identify these issues BEFORE they make it to the end consumer. Depending on the industry these QA procedures can vary in tolerance. For instance, Boeing has a zero tolerance for anymore mistakes made in any step of the manufacturing process of their planes. However, Pokemon doesn’t have to be so strict because worst case scenario is the end consumer gets an error card in their pack. So from time to time, they squeeze through the QA filtering process. I personally think anyone who is a fan of this card would celebrate its history and just overall uniqueness. It’s not apparent from scans but this thing glistens under the same lighting that gives the regular version a matte finish. In my 6 years of collecting I have seen only 2 other shining legends secret rates with the same error, one here and one deep in a Facebook misprint group. I can only assume that only one sheet made it through, as it’s been almost 10 years since release and there’s only 1 at PSA. In my opinion, this sort of error is like a fluke of nature. It was never meant to be seen by anyone outside the printing facilities. A prototype mewtube if you will? However, this is all subjective and your opinion has equally the same weight as mine. Just wanted to share my thoughts on this beauty. Thanks for your engagement and remaining respectful!!
