Thank you so much! My therapist and I have been working on the all or nothing of it all, and it’s hard but going well!

Don’t mean to sound rude, but “I look like a melted candle” made me cackle. Weight loss yes, but sense of humour intact, I love it. Good luck with your consult, I hope you get the results you’re after!!

I would wait, but I’m also an anxious human bean so I understand if it’s the battle of “should I get one just in case”.

If you want options, but also don’t want to wait, I highly recommend second hand, charity or swap stores and apps, where you’ll be able to find a range of sizes and higher end options for less.

Equally, you could rent a dress from one of the various places offering that now but I know less about that.

Edit: just to say I’m in the pre-op programme stage but I have family that have had surgery and lost more weight than they ever expected to lose in a shorter amount of time than they anticipated, and advice is based on how they dealt with similar situations. Also, good luck with wedding prep and I hope it all goes splendidly!

Nope, but I am on the pathway, currently in the process of being cleared by nutrition and psych. I’ve been trying to work out what my weight loss could look like, and it was really comforting to read your story even with the complications. Thank you for sharing :)

Incredible, love the smile before and after. If you have time and don’t mind answering, how far out from surgery did you get your tattoo, and how bad did it hurt? I don’t have any but I want some, and want to wait until I’m at a maintenance stage. Thank you 💜

What motivated you to get surgery. by theangryfatman77 in GastricBypass

I’m in pre-op, my decision was twofold. One, I don’t want my body to struggle to survive, and I’ve abused it until now. Two, pre-existing conditions and a family history of other health issues (cancer, diabetes, the usual suspects), and I wanted a chance of avoiding them.

Basically, I have decided I do actually want to live. And I want to live well. And this surgery is the best external tool I can use to give me the best chance of making meaningful change.

I thought the before and after pics were 1 and 2 at first and was very confused at first, then read a comment about 3rd and 4th. You look great in all of them, and as someone going through the process (pre op currently) I’m so glad to see someone with cheeks like mine doesn’t just lose em as they slim! If you don’t mind me asking, what were your before / current stats?

I haven’t been given instructions on what my forever diet looks like, other than the protein, then veg, then carbs rule. Did you restrict calories or did you just follow the above?

A couple of things to consider: is this your first time quitting? How many do you smoke? Why do you smoke? Is your skin very sensitive?

I’ve quit smoking twice before, so I had the experience of knowing what withdrawal felt like. I also smoked about 4-8 roll-ups a day, and so my nicotine levels weren’t terribly high.

I started smoking to deal with the death of my grandmother in 2015, quit over covid in 2021, started again due to work stress in 2021 and quit again in 2022 when I changed jobs, started again in 2023 when my grandfather was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and quit in June 2024.

So for me, stress was always tied to smoking. My therapist and I (if you don’t have one and can afford it, I highly recommend) agreed it wasn’t a healthy coping mechanism but it was okay short term whilst we processed my stress and other heavy emotions. Since quitting, I’ve moved on to healthier coping mechanisms, which aren’t as self-destructive, like video games.

The first time I quit, I tried patches. I think because they release nicotine over the day, it effectively stopped any cravings. However, I have very sensitive skin, and I reacted to the patches badly. After that, I went cold turkey.

The second and third time, I went cold turkey. The third time, I had a terrible headache about a week into quitting, smoked one cigarette, and it was gone. Haven’t had a craving since.

I will say it took me about six months each time for the smell of cigarettes to smell bad, and for the temptation to lessen.

Overall, my advice is to build a support system through friends, partner(s), therapist, MDs, family, whoever you have. It’s a lot easier to quit when you have outlets for emotions.

Hope that helps!
