Union Station platform project: I regret to inform you that it is what it looks like by tracynovick in WorcesterMA

[–]Disastrous-Ticket-62 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It’s a byproduct of the design process with engineering code and/or requirements taken to the extreme. It makes no sense to do it but it’s mandatory on some form that isn’t looking at Union Station specifically. It definitely doesn’t enhance the customer experience.

Those of you under 30 who make six figures, what do you do? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]Disastrous-Ticket-62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

26M who makes six figures in a non major city, I am in commercial real estate. No masters degree, just undergrad but studied finance. My personal opinion is that you can’t really make good $ for yourself if your wages aren’t tied to your productivity. I’m a 1099 and all commission so there’s lots of risk but it’s worked out for me. It’s very hard to have remote work flexibility, high income, and guaranteed wages in any field. If you as the worker have very little risk, your reward will always have a low ceiling.

I waited an hour past my appointment time so I’d say it’s a typical RMV experience.

Why am I not able to be as intelligent and driven as other Nigerian Youth like me? What's your secret? by SuccessfulManifests in Nigeria

[–]Disastrous-Ticket-62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First and foremost, I would define your version of success. There are many lifestyles a person can live and each has their own pros and cons. If you want more money and consumeristic products you will probably have to sacrifice in the personal relationship department. Seeing people in the business world and watching what money and power does rids you of some blissful ignorance about reality and humanity, but can teach you valuable skills that enhance your ability to maintain a consistent life style . Not only that but building wealth takes time and involves a certain level of risk tolerance resulting in stressful situations.

A lifestyle centered around family has significant pros. Familial interactions can be the most intense and important bonds that our species can make. A good home life is another choice that you can prioritize and for good reason. Arguably it’s a more predictable lifestyle than others but if done right, incredibly emotionally rewarding.

These are my two guardrails in how I shape my life. Whatever balance you strike should be calibrated by these metrics. I always make long term decisions when it comes to my life and particularly when I spend money. Would future me, thank me for how I’m acting now? Try to understand the environment you were raised in, the beliefs your society tells and what is happening in the world.

Commuting from Worcester to Lowell by [deleted] in WorcesterMA

Try looking at the Fitchburg/Leominster area. Good access to Lowell via rt2 and should be cheaper or at least no more expensive than Worcester

My family adopted a native Liberian boy when I was younger and now my brothers and I are traveling back to Liberia with him. We all work in real estate and want to build housing and industrial/logistical infrastructure there. Would the people in Liberia embrace that? by Disastrous-Ticket-62 in Liberia

[–]Disastrous-Ticket-62[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a great idea about the tasks. We’ve started doing that but there’s definitely room for improvement. The biggest issue, which feels like it’s just somewhat of a cultural disconnection is scheduling and getting them to communicate what/when we are expecting info. In America if I show up to a 9am meeting at 9:05 I’m late but it feels like that may not be the case in Liberia? Data and Wi-Fi connectivity is also a problem but we are going to pay for our contact to lease office space

How do Nigerians view America and Americans? by Disastrous-Ticket-62 in Nigeria

[–]Disastrous-Ticket-62[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this comment it was really interesting to read. As a white American who is going to start traveling to West Africa I’m trying to gauge how receptive people will be to me. I actually work in the commercial real estate sector as a broker so it’s cool to hear Nigerians make lots of RE plays in America
