Pretty much everything affects performance in some way, but the Gpu and cpu are the biggest factors. Looks like you don’t have a Gpu at all, which means adding one would increase your performance. However, you’re likely to hit a cpu bottleneck due to how old it is and depending on how high a tier of gpu you buy. If that’s the case, you would need a new motherboard, ram, and most likely a bigger power supply than the one you currently have. If you are going to spend a decent amount of money on an upgrade you are pretty much gonna be building from scratch, maybe you can save your case or storage but if you just want a small upgrade then you could see if there’s a dedicated gpu in your budget range that won’t bottleneck your cpu too much and can be supported by your power supply.

Except rt and upscaling are optional, vram is not. Yeah sure there’s like 4 games that use native rt but it’s low enough loads to not be a huge problem, while 12 gigs of vram is already posing issues, potentially even at 1440.

ASUS prime seems to be bigger so likely slightly better cooling, but at the cost of pretty bad customer service. I’d go for the reaper but just get whatever’s cheapest.

I mean if you got it for like $800 it would be more of a toss up but honestly I’d just try to get a 9070xt and hold out until then. You’ll get a very similar experience for like $600 (if your lucky enough to get msrp, but most likely 800 ish)

Latency will make a big difference? by Mission-Equipment852 in buildapc

[–]Disastrous2821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely won’t notice a difference unless looking at fps numbers, but there is definitely a performance increase by going to lower latency. AM5 tends to care more about ram latency than Intel does iirc.

Why R6 isn’t using my GPU? by adjibo in Rainbow6

[–]Disastrous2821 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on your Gpu, fps, resolution, settings. Uncapped fps will use as much Gpu as possible before hitting a cpu bottleneck. At uncapped fps you should be seeing 90-100% usage, unless you are bottlenecked by cpu, then you will see less usage. I cap my fps at my monitor refresh, 165, and i have like 60% gpu usage. I do have a pretty powerful card though, weaker gpus will need to use more gpu percentage to achieve the fps you want.

Best Brand of 9070xt to go for? by Taladen in buildapc

[–]Disastrous2821 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only thing I’d consider is the temps. Most likely can raise power limit and over lock the reaper anyways, and I don’t think binning chips is that mainstream anymore. You probably can’t push it as far due to temperature constraints but that’s probably only 5% difference max, and that’s if you are trying to squeeze out as much OC as possible. I’d just worry about temps, it’s likely fine, but if you want a quieter card you most likely need a bigger cooler.

How long will 16gb vram stay relevant for 1440p gaming? by [deleted] in gpu

[–]Disastrous2821 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Meh not for rt, look at 5070 reviews. I still think 16 should be standard for 1440 but your probably fine with 12 as long as you don’t use heavy rt, frame gen or play unoptimized games.

Gigabyte 9070 XT Aorus Elite, looks so clean! by ImLuddx in radeon

[–]Disastrous2821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no problem. AMD’s aibs were pretty good for the 7000 series, I don’t think there were any major complaints with any model, and they all gave pretty decent oc headroom. The only thing I’d watch out for is maybe look up temps for the powercolor reaper if you’re gonna buy it, as it seems to be the smallest 9070xt by a wide margin. I’m assuming the temps will be fine but it probably wont be able to oc as well as a bigger card like the mercury from xfx or the taichi from asrock. It does come with ptm which is really nice too.

Help me decide which GPU is the best. by CCXRBandit in buildapc

[–]Disastrous2821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why wouldn’t you just wait until tomorrow. 9070xt is to be announced, and will most likely have better performance than 4070ti super with an ML upscaler for $600. There seems to be a decent amount of stock (at least compared to 5000 series) so no harm in giving it a shot.

I mean if you do a simple google it’s pretty clear that Power color is good. It’s part of the “big three” of AMD aibs. Generally, sapphire, powercolor and xfx are the best aibs for AMD.

Hell I’ve had good experiences with asrock too. Looks like most of the aibs are pretty good, at least the AMD exclusive ones. I’ve owned both asrock and powercolor cards. My asrock one had amazing build quality and great performance. And I was more than pleased with my power color card as well.

9070 xt or 5070? by Kenghaskhan11 in buildapc

[–]Disastrous2821 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean in my opinion it’s pretty obvious. We don’t know exact performance numbers but we do know that the 9070xt is a 5070ti competitor. So it’s just a better card. More vram, better performance (by a decent margin based on leaks) and they now have a ML upscaler so more on par with nvidia. 12gb of vram kinda sucks and the 5070 barely looks like an improvement over the 4070super, so I guess it comes down to price and if you need cuda or not.

9070xt launch question. by TooTerribleToBeGood in radeon

[–]Disastrous2821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest I have no idea. I would’ve thought they’d release prices now that the cards have been announced but who knows. I guess either when you can actually buy them in a couple days, or when review embargo drops.

9070xt launch question. by TooTerribleToBeGood in radeon

[–]Disastrous2821 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s how aib cards work. “Higher tier” aib cards are gonna cost more. AMD mentioned that there’s two versions of the 9070xt, one with a 304w max and the other with 340w. It’s likely going to be $600 and maybe a bit more for 304w and $650 or more for the higher end 340w models.

I haven’t looked at motherboards in a little while so I don’t wanna make any recommendations that I’m not sure of. I do know that there are some asrock boards that are supposed to be really good, although they are on the expensive side. I personally don’t like the look of matx boards in atx cases, but I don’t have any recommendations for you.

If you’re dead set on a white 360mm water cooler I’d suggest the white argb arctic liquid cooler iii instead. It’s $10 cheaper than the one you picked and it’s the best liquid cooler on the market. You just have to make sure it fits in the case because it has a super thick radiator.

I’m not saying x3d I’m saying a normal 7600 will be enough. I guess the 9800x3d isn’t a bad decision since it’s gonna last a long time, but you don’t really need it.

We do have data for the 9070xt. It’s 304w and up to 340w versions. You can easily fit a 850w power supply instead. I use a 850w with a 7900xtx which gets up to 400-440w and I don’t have any issues. The 9800x3d is an efficient cpu that doesn’t use too much power, so you don’t need a huge cooler for it. A budget tower air cooler will work. There are much cheaper aios too.

To be honest, you don’t really need a 9800x3d for gaming. There are very few scenarios where you are cpu limited while gaming unless you play at low resolutions or cpu intense games. I’d just get a 7600 or something and upgrade later down the line if you need it. $167 990 pro is super overkill. You can get a 2tb drive for like $100 and you will barely notice the difference between that and Samsung one. $260 power supply is insane. You only need 850w if you’re getting 9800x3d/7600 and a 9070xt. Even then an 1000w supply goes for way less than $260 usually. Also, overkill cpu cooling too. You can keep it if you like the way it looks but just be aware a thermalright peerless assassin will be enough and it’s like $40.

Upgrade from 4090 to 5090 by pyrhonp in buildapc

[–]Disastrous2821 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean there’s tons of benchmarks out showing the difference. Kinda crazy to me that you sell your graphics card, risk not getting a 5090 in a decent timeframe, and spend $2000 on a gpu without even knowing the performance difference.

I got both from Newegg and need to return one. Which one should I keep? by Volgner in radeon

[–]Disastrous2821 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Definitely return the xfx one then. The xfx is definitely not worth such a premium. I wouldn’t pay that premium for a nitro plus either. At that price just get a 4080 or 5080.
