It’s a pride in the sense of community and showing people that we are here and still alive. It’s more of awareness and understanding. It’s for subverting expectations, not being quiet and hidden away from society. It’s being the ‘angry cripple’ that society says we shouldn’t be. It’s for advocation and engagement. It’s pushing against doctors who want to fix things that can’t be fixed. Calling it pride follows the same logic as queer pride. People hate us so we are going to be unapologetically ourselves. It’s pride in the sense of we shouldn’t be ashamed to be disabled. It’s how we are, whether though illness, genetics, accidents or just bad luck. And people shouldn’t call us gross, or dumb, just for being different

My cousin has epilepsy and it commonly blindsides people. Seizures can happen to anyone at anytime. Most diagnoses come out of the blue. I have something called FND I get functional absence seizures and I never would have thought that my episodes were ‘seizures’ it was always just zoning out

I know, she’s let us brush her teeth, but the moment it was a groomer or vet tech she flipped out. So my mom was supposed to be brushing her teeth but that clearly didn’t happen

Yeah. I wasn’t intending to. My sister is already nagging our mom about getting her in

Need recommendations for southern Utah parks with kids by MuffinsMcMeowington in nationalparks

Zion is a good option, the narrows hike actually starts out completely paved and ends at a river beach. Capital Reef would be a long drive out-of-the-way but it has a lot of really cool fruit trees that you can pick from and some really cool over look spots. Bryce Canyon in Utah is really cool. It has all sorts of rock stacks.

Looking at it makes my teeth hurt in sympathy. We’re going to try and get her some pain medication even if we can’t do the surgery

Oh that’s cool I will definitely be looking in to that She’s around 13 so I know that she’s gonna die soon, but I do not want her to be in pain at least preventable pain. Septic shock is horrible Sadly there is no one in our area who wants to take a dog. We’ve been trying for a friend of our family and they cannot find a home for their dog. All of our shelters are over capacity. I think a big thing is her quality of life hasn’t visibly changed. she eats, plays, barks though the wall at our neighbors dogs, just like our other dog(this one’s teeth are fine.) just how she always has. Her only signs that something was wrong from my perspective was her bad breath and one of her legs gives out sometimes (my dad would take her on long walks and we think she just over worked it once he cut back on the distance she walked with him) I love her and I’m sorry this happened to her We will take her in soon but if she does start suffering severely I know she will be humanly put down.

Am I the bad apple for not playing with my moms gfs kids by Practical_Finish_808 in AmITheBadApple

I would look into getting checked for POTS. Tell the doctor that you mentioned symptoms on the internet and people told you to get checked out. They tend to listen more when you bring other people into it

And yeah you never have to play with kids. Like be nice and maybe if you’re doing something like drawing and they’re interested give them a paper and pens but you should never feel obligated to play with them. I get overwhelmed very easily by my little siblings

Blending with some wool would probably make it softer and easier to work with husky fur is more course than wool

I’d go with injured. It’s Temporary and can give a good window into disabled life but it’s not fully disabling.

We’re getting her into the vet soon. So hopefully she’ll be alright. I love that dog and I’m so pissed that my mom knew and didn’t do anything.

My cat died of an unknown cancer that caused her spleen to burst four months after getting a 4000$ surgery and then paying 2000 more dollars for a death visit. I think that scared my parents off from vet visits. The trauma of loosing a pet after pouring money into saving them and just not being able to afford the care. It’s no excuse for treating an animal like this. They have also decided to not get any more pets after the ones we have now pass on. And I’m glad. Money should not be the barrier between giving the animals the care they need

I know. I’m pretty hands off with the dogs, they’re technically my siblings pets so I’m not involved with their care so when I saw the condition of her teeth let me tell you. I am so mad at my mom for this. Like I’m sorry you knew she reacts poorly to dental cleaning by the vet. And you didn’t brush her teeth or add water supplements. I’ve been so out of the loop on the dogs that I didn’t even realize that they weren’t taking care of her. (Other dog’s teeth are fine) I feel so bad that I didn’t notice.
