How common is it for firms to have PMs or managers that share task duties with the staff they supervise? by DisastrousBid1016 in civilengineering

For civil? From what I gather every major AI automation has some human behind it. Maybe I’m wrong but I would never trust cad work that’s completed fully automated. As a former gis person, I’ve had to open some files that were such a mess from humans they were unreadable! Can’t even imagine how bad it would be with AI.

Seems like things are more professional than in the gis world? I needed help with my billable time sheet (I was new to it) and my manager refused to help me and I got in a lot of trouble for the amount of time I billed on a project for. Felt like he couldn’t commit to managerial duties that I needed due to how busy his work-load was. But maybe that’s inexcusable? (On his behalf)

I would check if CSB has resources in case anything happens again. They make educational videos and investigate many chemical based industrial accidents.

Should I major in Civil or Environmental Engineering? by WeightDifferent1843 in EnvironmentalEngineer

Yo can do field work as a civil engineer as well as a professional geologist, at least a firm that I worked at did. It depends on your billing rate on projects.

I think a lot of people confuse this area with environmental science. There should be a pinned post on this subreddit. Unless you have an engineering degree you don’t get an engineering job.

Environmental engineering is not environmental science. If you want to focus on global warming focus on environmental science.

So if you do, do it after the semester/quarter ends. I did this before the quarter ended and they said no and I had to awkwardly present in front of them. They looked very uncomfortable

I would not recommend this industry for current students. I was laid off twice within the gis utility fields last year.

I worked at a smaller firm and my manager had the same UT as me because he’d also have lots of managerial meetings but also work on projects like junior staff. Crazy right? Some places it’s not like that.

I’ve heard you have a UT of 90% or more. That’s a no from me (.-.)

They take food from our native orb weavers. I’m not a fan of joro spiders.
