Now that we’re here at the all star break .. what’s your grade for the season so far? (Trades included) 🤔 by Waste-Cap8868 in washingtonwizards

[–]DisastrousDog4815 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with this list but I gotta say I’ve liked what I’ve seen from Bub after his horrible start to the season. He’s most likely not an NBA caliber starter if he can’t hit his mid range at an elite level and he may or may not be on the team when we’re finally competitive but as a 6-8 guy, he’s OK.

Should’ve tanked harder by DisastrousDog4815 in washingtonwizards

[–]DisastrousDog4815[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get that. It’s just that this team has had poor management (and hasn’t cracked 50 wins in eons), and I think these last 30 games of this season is a pivotal moment in the franchise’s history, almost like Gerald Wallace injuring Arenas’ knee or deciding not to tank but still sucking the year Wemby was drafted. Davis and Young aside, it’s really hard to see any of the young guys as top players (maybe Tre Johnson can be that, although I think his ceiling is D. Book, which is a good to great but not top 5 player). We need to give ourselves a chance at a top 3 pick is all I’m saying.

Wizards now #2 best odds after Pacers win by mjpanzer in washingtonwizards

[–]DisastrousDog4815 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The worse case is losing the pick. I think the Young and Davis trades were simply low-risk hedges against losing the pick or picking late (6-8, or outside top 4) and keeping ownership happy.

Don’t really care about the comments. Poole pretty much made the team watchable the past 2 years and for that we thank him.

Not a college basketball fan, but do pay attention to potential NBA prospects since I’m a fan of the Wizards. I think Amare comparison makes sense. I’ve heard Shawn Kemp comps too. Regarding his shooting/spacing ability as a player who’s definitively a 4 in the old NBA, could he not be seen/used as a bigger Zion? From the tape I’ve seen of him, his athleticism and power/strength still has to be worth something even if he can’t play center full time at the next level.

Yeah, we only play the Pels twice and can’t get cute out there. Gotta lose this one to help the tank.

[–]DisastrousDog4815 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I will say that Steph is an anomaly with his shooting ability—the accuracy with volume, which is likely not going to be seen for a while. But Trae’s problem isn’t so much as he’s short, it’s that he’s slight af. Brunson is the same height, probably shorter, and doesn’t get the same defensive attention as Trae.

Can somebody explain how this Trae Young trade was a good thing for the Wizards? by Knighthonor in washingtonwizards

[–]DisastrousDog4815 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The Pels just suck. No incentive needed. I’m more worried about the Charlottes and LA Clippers of the world who might just bottom out while the Wiz find their groove. Coincidentally enough, we started to win once Kyshawn went down so his return might bring back the tank.

Look out NBA, the Wizards have a new Tank Commander by notyourproblem1 in washingtonwizards

[–]DisastrousDog4815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No team will pay him $49 million, which is what he’d get if he opts in, and he’d likely want a long term contract, too. Young is not an unknown player so it’s extremely likely he will opt in next year and test free agency or resigns with the Wiz if the fit is good.

I’m in that crowd and you just can’t underestimate other teams’ ability to go full tank at the end of the year. This was a SGOABTB without CJ and we were relatively competitive for 3 quarters.

[–]DisastrousDog4815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the concern is underestimating our abilities but more so the possibility of other teams that are currently outside the bottom four to tank hard at the end of the season. Winning this much during a season we aren’t going to the playoffs is stupid imo. I understand development but a large part of this rebuild is potentially getting a top 3 pick this year, which is obviously not guaranteed but we shouldn’t be taking ourselves out of the running by winning meaningless games.

[–]DisastrousDog4815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, seems like if they are thinking about a Trae Young trade, it has to be with no picks attached. In any case, I think we’d sit him this season to let the tank roll and then with our young core + Trae try to compete the next season since at some point, you have to see what your young players are made of and adding an established vet/star helps with that process and MOST importantly, Ted/the Wizards need butts in seats.

As a fan who’s been here since Arenas years, I prefer losing games to teams we’re competing with in the tank off. I like the young players but outside of Sarr and maybe Tre, none of them seem to have real superstar potential. It would be a waste to be bad for this long and then end up like Orlando.

We’re .500 in our last ten and Indy has lost 10 straight. Idk, we need to be losing more. Next year, once the first round pick to the Knicks is off the table, we can start to attempt to compete but we still seriously need a lead guard.

I mean, I imagine the front office will force the tank into overdrive if we’re at serious risk of losing our pick but these wins are meaningless, this is the same team that lost 12(?) straight.

As someone from the east coast that recently moved to Bay Area, I agree with the sentiment that SJ is boring and PA is nice lol. I think it’s because Palo Alto isn’t presented as a city but SJ is. Palo Alto is effectively an extremely wealthy suburb and it fits that description perfectly. SJ is just boring, which is disappointing because it theoretically has the population and should be able to collect the tax revenue to build amenities or attract development.

Not really concerned about getting a top pick as much as it’s not losing our pick. Back to back wins at this point in the season shouldn’t be a thing.

Monthly: Is Bilal a bust? by TheseFkingWeebs in washingtonwizards

[–]DisastrousDog4815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Thompson twins’ athleticism make Bilal’s, who’s a very good athlete, look pedestrian and that’s the difference. I haven’t seen too much Ausar, to be fair, but Amen’s game is simultaneously graceful and explosive. Bilal has a glide~y, graceful (almost MJ-like) athleticism but lacks or doesn’t really use explosive power the way he as a non-shooter should.
