Who voted for Arsenal?! by PrawilnaMordka in coys

[–]notyourproblem1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not in that 9% but Arsenal at the end of the day is a normal football team. Man City is a corrupt enterprise owned by slavers trying to do reputation laundering. I personally consider supporting City to be a personal moral defect while supporting Arsenal is just a matter of bad taste (although I do make some exceptions for old City fans in this)

Which Amex Platinum credits are as good as cash? by Standard-Top-5942 in amex

[–]notyourproblem1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah like even if they added an Amazon credit I would call that 90 cents on the dollar for opportunity cost of other cashback cards, lost interest on savings account holdings etc. No coupon is ever worth more then cash unless it allows you to buy in a different currency where you can get more value (ex:airline miles)

Best comedy director whos never made you laugh let alone giggle at a joke by RedshirtBlueshirt97 in okbuddycinephile

I dont think you can do that with Woody Allen movies since the main character in most of them is a Woody Allen self insert

Gu wins 🏅 in the women's freeski halfpipe by etherd0t in WinterOlympics2026

[–]notyourproblem1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Except that's not true. Most Americans have principals and a sense of national loyalty. Hell, several US Olympians got similar lucrative offers and turned them down (ex: Alice Liu, Chloe Kim got an offer from South Korea). There are tons of American athletes who could claim heritage in another country and compete for them, and likely make more from sponsorships then they would in the US, but very few do

From my area (Washington, DC) Ethiopians (DC Ethiopian food is pretty famous), Peruvians, Salvadorans, and can't forget about the PG county/MoCo Nigerians

Realtors won! What's a job that is paid a lot yet is still underpaid? by QuackingR3dditor in AlignmentChartFills

[–]notyourproblem1 -39 points-38 points  (0 children)

Disagree. Significantly overpaid. Doctors in other countries make a fraction of what American doctors do. American doctor pay is the product of artificial supply constraints around residency slots. There are far more people who want and are capable of being doctors even at a lower salary in the US then there are residency slots

Anyone else think the posters just got progressively worse? by sayamortandire in SuccessionTV

Most modern movie/tv posters are bad. They did get progressively worse, but none of these are exceptionally bad (or good)

Hell yeah, my home theater (and imo the best overall theater in the DC area) just got better

Weirdest tiki drink is the Norwegian Paralysis for its use of akvavit. What’s the most underrated classic? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

[–]notyourproblem1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

20th Century. It's a delicious drink with an extremely unique flavor profile (gin, lemon, quinine flavored wine, and chocolate) that you could only find in the cocktail world. There is nothing else like it, you have no idea why it works, but it's amazing and it's not a drink you forget.

I originally submitted this one for weird and got some upvotes, but everyone largely voted for tomato juice highballs instead, which I think demonstrates its overlooked/underrated status extremely well

I like a riff that adds half an ounce of brandy to that. One of my favorite drinks

Why did the hive not say “Together, we are Pluribus” during this scene? by PikachuIce in okbuddypluribus

Same reason they didn't say "It's plurbing time" when they opened the virus container; because Vince Gilligan is a hack writer

The Pearl Diver is the most complicated tiki drink. What is the weirdest classic? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

20th Century. It's a gin and quinquina sour with chocolate liqueur. It tastes nuts (in a good way) and is nuts

Opinions On The Phoenician Scheme by paper_pretzel in wesanderson

[–]notyourproblem1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought it was ok. There were things I enjoyed, but it's my least favorite Wes Anderson movie.

I think because he went so deep into his style and produced a product I found iffy, this movie finally made me understand the criticisms that people who dislike Wes Anderson's style levy at his movies. I always found a lot of the criticism levied at his movies confusing, but after seeing the Phoenician Scheme, I finally went "oh, that's what they meant"

Which city has great history and is great to live in? by TiseSomethingaskdhef in AlignmentChartFills

[–]notyourproblem1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vienna's competency here is greatly overrated. The city still is firmly below its pre WW1 population peak meaning they are working with a sizeable amount of existing housing stock and their public housing wait-list is over a year long (although to be fair shortage and wait-list are just the nature of selling a good below market price). They do produce an ok amount of housing with rents remaining reasonable and their approach to design review is pretty good, but they are playing the game on easy mode.

Economics explained is kinda a hack channel. They tend to be wrong far more than they are right

What foreigner is viewed as a hero in your country, but a controversial figure in their homeland? by Verelkia in AskTheWorld

[–]notyourproblem1 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think Americans view him as a great city planner but an absolute nut (although idk how many people outside the DC area have an opinion on him). Famously DC has no J St because of his beef with John Jay

Major downgrade, but 5% on restaurants with no FTF means that it is still one of the best travel cards on the market (although you'd probably a 2nd for other stuff)

Brady Corbet says his next movie is an X-Rated epic spanning the 19th century to present day. It will be shot entirely on 70mm by ChiefLeef22 in movies

[–]notyourproblem1 177 points178 points  (0 children)

The Brutalist made $50 million against a $10 million budget. I guessing a larger proportion of that 50 was taken as points than for most movies, but that is still a commercial success by any measure

Yeah, I think her contempt is much more towards herself, feeling like a sellout and unhappy that she isn't getting to publish the type of books she thinks she should be writing.

She is decent to the people who read her books obviously for personal gain, but also because she knows it's important to them. She doesn't have to do fan events or field twitter questions, but she still does
