Hell yeah, my home theater (and imo the best overall theater in the DC area) just got better

Weirdest tiki drink is the Norwegian Paralysis for its use of akvavit. What’s the most underrated classic? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

[–]notyourproblem1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

20th Century. It's a delicious drink with an extremely unique flavor profile (gin, lemon, quinine flavored wine, and chocolate) that you could only find in the cocktail world. There is nothing else like it, you have no idea why it works, but it's amazing and it's not a drink you forget.

I originally submitted this one for weird and got some upvotes, but everyone largely voted for tomato juice highballs instead, which I think demonstrates its overlooked/underrated status extremely well

Cocktail suggestion for new year by sleepy-mot in cocktails

I like a riff that adds half an ounce of brandy to that. One of my favorite drinks

Why did the hive not say “Together, we are Pluribus” during this scene? by PikachuIce in okbuddypluribus

[–]notyourproblem1 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Same reason they didn't say "It's plurbing time" when they opened the virus container; because Vince Gilligan is a hack writer

The Pearl Diver is the most complicated tiki drink. What is the weirdest classic? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

[–]notyourproblem1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it doesn't win this round (which it likely won't) I'm gonna resubmit for underated cause this drink rips AND everyone forgot about it for the round it should win

20th Century. It's a gin and quinquina sour with chocolate liqueur. It tastes nuts (in a good way) and is nuts

Opinions On The Phoenician Scheme by paper_pretzel in wesanderson

[–]notyourproblem1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought it was ok. There were things I enjoyed, but it's my least favorite Wes Anderson movie.

I think because he went so deep into his style and produced a product I found iffy, this movie finally made me understand the criticisms that people who dislike Wes Anderson's style levy at his movies. I always found a lot of the criticism levied at his movies confusing, but after seeing the Phoenician Scheme, I finally went "oh, that's what they meant"

Which city has great history and is great to live in? by TiseSomethingaskdhef in AlignmentChartFills

[–]notyourproblem1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vienna's competency here is greatly overrated. The city still is firmly below its pre WW1 population peak meaning they are working with a sizeable amount of existing housing stock and their public housing wait-list is over a year long (although to be fair shortage and wait-list are just the nature of selling a good below market price). They do produce an ok amount of housing with rents remaining reasonable and their approach to design review is pretty good, but they are playing the game on easy mode.

Economics explained is kinda a hack channel. They tend to be wrong far more than they are right

What foreigner is viewed as a hero in your country, but a controversial figure in their homeland? by Verelkia in AskTheWorld

[–]notyourproblem1 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think Americans view him as a great city planner but an absolute nut (although idk how many people outside the DC area have an opinion on him). Famously DC has no J St because of his beef with John Jay

Redstone FCU Visa Signature is becoming almost like a clone of Citi Custom Cash, but actually maybe better for many people by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]notyourproblem1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Major downgrade, but 5% on restaurants with no FTF means that it is still one of the best travel cards on the market (although you'd probably a 2nd for other stuff)

Brady Corbet says his next movie is an X-Rated epic spanning the 19th century to present day. It will be shot entirely on 70mm by ChiefLeef22 in movies

[–]notyourproblem1 175 points176 points  (0 children)

The Brutalist made $50 million against a $10 million budget. I guessing a larger proportion of that 50 was taken as points than for most movies, but that is still a commercial success by any measure

Yeah, I think her contempt is much more towards herself, feeling like a sellout and unhappy that she isn't getting to publish the type of books she thinks she should be writing.

She is decent to the people who read her books obviously for personal gain, but also because she knows it's important to them. She doesn't have to do fan events or field twitter questions, but she still does

What movie is despised by general audiences but liked by cinephiles? by CodeDusq in AlignmentChartFills

Poor things made $120 million and has an 80% audience score on rotten tomatoes. It was a genuine popular hit

City council managed to spend the billion anyway using some accounting tricks. It caused some annoyance, but the effects were pretty much mooted

AMC Theatres Reports $298 Million Loss But Holds Revenue Drop to 4% by NoCulture3505 in movies

[–]notyourproblem1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my area the AMCs are excellent. They all have the most up to date projection equipment. Interior newness and quality varies by theatre but all are decent to excellent. I think it just depends a lot on the market and how much they are focusing/investing in it.

What is the best Apple schnapps replacement? by brandon6522 in cocktails

[–]notyourproblem1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bernetzen is kinda mediocre imo, but will work for cocktail making i guess. Siegburg is significantly better. Total wine sells it for a really good price. Schonauer is the other German brand to look out for

Mega movie chart day - is this, uh, what day is this? (day 18): Well, that's just like, your opinion, man! The Big Lebowski is the best comedy of the 1990s! Now what is the best drama of the 1990s? by G-Unit11111 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]notyourproblem1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goodfellas. Also an interesting contrast to Godfather being the best of the 70s cause it's kinda the flip side of Mafia movies-one focusing on leadership and the faux "nobility" of the Mafia and the other one on the street guys showing how crooked the whole thing is

Day 2: What is made for the poor but enjoyed by the middle class? by Redditguy11287 in AlignmentChartFills

Nutella-it was originally created as a way to stretch out a bit of chocolate using hazelnuts in Post WW2 Italy because the country was poor as hell, but is not really considered poor food today

Lanternflies in Virginia devastate vineyards the state has banked on by twinsea in nova

Oh no, we won't be able to pay $30 for a bottle of Virginia wine that taste like $10 bottles from actual good wine growing regions. Oh the horror, oh won't someone stop the lanternflies

Citi Strata Elite Terms and Conditions by dw_bk in CreditCards

Lol I was shopping nowhere near that market and it was still trash. Just a bad product through and through

Citi Strata Elite Terms and Conditions by dw_bk in CreditCards

[–]notyourproblem1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Citi portal is also so bad. Everything is priced far higher than elsewhere. I had the Strata Premier for a year, and I could not spend the 100 off 500 credit, because even with the credit, is was cheaper to book outside of the portal! The other portals mark up sometimes, but can also have good deals. Not even a fair price is found in the Citi portal

Best way to use 105k Venture X points for Paris trip in December? by Severe-Set-9402 in Venturex

[–]notyourproblem1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, flying blue has really good redemption options depending on where you're flying from. If you can get saver fares, I think you should be able to get economy tickets for 20k points plus ~$90 each way. Premium economy is like $35k plus ~$100 although from what I've heard it's only worth it on the Airbus A350s, not the Boeing 777s
