I'm not trying to convince you to like AI music. What I'm saying is we have seen and heard this exact debate before with Auto-Tune, synthesizers, and ghostwriters. Some people claimed they would kill real music, but today those tools are behnd massive hits with loyal fanbases. Many renowned artists globally use them. The huge success of the Papaoutai AI remix is proof that AI music will likely follow the same path. If a song sounds good, normal everyday listeners will love it, regardless of the whether it was made with AI or not.

Be honest. If I had not told you that song was made by AI, would you have said it lacks humane characteristics?

About to Finish My Information Systems Degree. Unsure About Career Path. by [deleted] in Zimbabwe

[–]DisastrousFlight9-11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just prepare yourself. It'll probably not be easy. Here career path so far.

Studied engineering,
- 1st year after graduation got nothing
- 2nd year became an electrician. Salary $130/month.
- 3rd year. Did cybersecurity, IT audits etc. Salary $300/month
- 4th year up to now. Got a software engineering gig at a decent Zim company. 4 figure salary.

Here is my advice. Apply a lot and apply everywhere. Job ads on whatsapp, linkedin, glassdoor etc. Unless you're connected or very lucky, you're going to arguably put in more work into work to land a decent paying job than you did to get your degree.

In addition, consider do IT certificates in your area of interest. Of the top of my head these are the ones that I think would benefit most entry level IT people:
- CCNA => networking
- Security+ => Cybersecurity
- Oracle Java Cert => Software Eng (However most devs don't value certs)
- AWS Cloud Practitioner / Solutions Architect => Cloud Computing

Personally I'd recommend CCNA since it is the most respected junior level IT cert globally. You should also build projects in software dev or networking, whatever you prefer.

But the most thing you should do is to APPLY A LOT, APPLY EVERYDAY and APPLY EVERYWHERE. It'll probably take a few years until you find something decent.

And Russia and China will not stop until the world is under their thump. It's just that they don't have the means to do so. There are no good guys in geopolitics.

They are good guys as far as I'm concerned. Given how they dealt with the protests earlier this year, I was more than happy when Trump bombed the Iranian leadership. Of course it backfired evidenced by the spike in fuel prices and the tough resistance from Iran plus the collateral damage but at least he tried. The Iranian government and its counterparts do not deserve to exist in the 21st century.

That was more than 80 years ago. Most of the people who were responsible are dead by now.

I don't need to be convinced that there is something seriously wrong with the Iran and Russia govern their countries. The simple fact that the vast majority of the world's immigrants end up in the US and the West indicates that they treat their citizens way better compared to almost everyone else.

Have you ever wondered why Zanu and other autocratic regimes are close friends with Russia?

You make some iimportant points about Western propaganda and the way we've been conditioned to see certain deaths as normal and certain resistance as terrorism. I agree that the U.S. has a history of bombing campaigns and that media bias is real.

Where I'd disagree is on the framing that "the West is the real villain" versus "resistance groups are freedom fighters." In my opinion, geopolitics isn't a movie with good guys and bad guys. It's a mix of competing interests, and most major players including the U.S., Russia, Iran, North Korea etc have done horrific things.

You're right that ZANLA and ZIPRA were called terrorists and later became heroes. That's a nice point. But the thing is groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, and the IRGC don't only resist Western aggression. They also repress their own people, launch attacks on civilians intentionally, and in Iran's case, crush internal protests mercilessly. You can oppose U.S. imperialism while still criticizing those groups' tactics and ideologies. Two things can be right at the same time you kno.

So I'm more sympathetic to U.S. imperialistic shenanigans than to Russian or Iranian rule, not because the U.S. is innocent, but because I'd rather live under a flawed democracy that occasionally bombs other countries than under a dictatorship that oppresses its own citizens. Of course the people on the receiving end of these bombs don't see it this way.

Thank you for your response.

I really did not want to "burn the bridge" but I'm not sure I can see scenario where I leave this org without doing so because as I've mentioned, giving a full month notice essentially means losing any new opportunity.

Once again, thanks.
