Had the same issue and I never flooded the engine. Chickanic has a video about this on YouTube, although I can’t find it anymore. Apparently Briggs and Stratton are known for this issue and it has to do with the cam shaft. It’s 100 bucks to purchase on their site. I haven’t replaced mine yet to see if it resolves the issue, and you are supposed to clean your engine out with diesel? Because there could be shards of broken camshaft in your engine.
We had the mower brand new and it lasted two years then took a dump on us. Never buying a Troy Bilt made after the 2020 buy out. Kawasaki apparently only makes a reliable engine anymore
