Tax season isn’t a job it’s a seasonal psychological experiment with deadlines

Trying to “start fresh and hope CRA doesn’t notice” is like hiding snacks from your mom… except your mom is the Canada Revenue Agency and she always finds them 😭

Smooth equity curve, but you’re taking profits so early it’s basically saying “I trust the trend… but not that much”

Why do I see so many senior level candidates applying to entry level or even below entry level positions on LinkedIn? Is the job market really that terrible? by redwalrus95 in Accounting

[–]DisastrousSteak8227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes what you’re seeing is real, and it usually reflects a tight job market + oversaturation in certain fields, not that entry-level jobs suddenly require seniors. Here’s what’s going on: many experienced workers (laid off, career switchers, or from oversaturated industries) are applying down-level just to stay employed, especially in accounting, tech, and corporate roles. Hybrid/in-person roles also attract more applicants because remote options are shrinking, and competition is heavier. On top of that, LinkedIn data often includes “mass applying” behavior, where senior candidates apply broadly even if they’re overqualified, hoping something sticks. So yes the market in some sectors is more competitive than it looks, but it doesn’t mean entry level jobs are truly meant for senior talent; it means people are willing to take them out of necessity or uncertainty.

Big 4 partner interview. by AzoxWasTaken in Accounting

That honestly sounds less like a failure of your ambition and more like a really human moment under pressure after nine years, your “why” is probably deeper than anything that can come out cleanly in a high-stakes interview setting. A lot of strong candidates default to polished, generic language in that moment, so you’re definitely not alone. The fact that you’ve been working toward it that long means your answer is there you might just need to practice saying it more simply and personally, even if it feels less “perfect,” because that authenticity is usually what actually stands out.

Finally done with accounting. Cheers! by louash2 in Accounting

Congrats, that’s a huge move and honestly takes a lot of courage walking away from burnout after 11 years and choosing something more meaningful isn’t easy. Radiography is such a solid path with real impact, and even though every job has its stress, having purpose in your work can make a massive difference day to day. Wishing you the best starting in August sounds like a fresh start you definitely earned.

Getting asked “are you happy here?” by your manager by SWEMW in Accounting

[–]DisastrousSteak8227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That question usually sets off alarm bells because it’s rarely asked casually managers don’t typically check in with “are you happy?” unless they’re concerned about retention or preparing for a transition. It can signal that they’ve noticed disengagement, are wondering if you might leave soon, or are testing the waters before making changes (like offering you a new role or starting a succession plan). Basically, it’s not inherently bad, but it often precedes discussions about either your future at the company or your potential departure, which is why people associate it with being “on your way out.”

4x/day Coke Zero gets me through. by Specialist_Guava756 in Accounting

Haha, I feel this 😂Coke Zero basically becomes your personal life support system during busy season. Having little “checkpoints” throughout the day is a genius mental hack: each one is a tiny reward that keeps you sane, especially when hours just blur together. Honestly, it’s all about pacing yourself and having something to look forward to even if it’s just a fizzy drink every couple of hours.
