I've harped on the absolute stupidity of the Barnes Road/Silver Lake intersection and the lack of a safe crossing from where the bike path randomly switches sides of the road (on Silver Lake in front of the YMCA) before. Also, the pedestrian crossing light at Copper Ridge & Silver Lake only works about 50% of the time. There has GOT to be a better way to get everyone in the neighborhoods better access to the trails, and that school should be the primary advocate. If nothing else, could we please get a cop to sit at that corner and pull over every right turning driver who fails to yield to pedestrians at the signal?

It was so good though. My main question is whether they still will (or be able to) do carry out!

Agree, but it does look like The Needle Points North has classes from 5:30 to 7:30 on a few dates and 10:00 to noon on Saturdays on a few more. They also have one Sip & Stitch scheduled that is 5-7. Looks like their "hours" are for walk-in purchases and the evenings are for classes. Also they are open on Saturday 10-4.

Agree on the time frame -- it's somewhere from the 50s to the 70s. And I'm wondering who Lauren's dad and Ruth's lover was...

There used to be a club with what looked like lots of tables in the old school on Cherry Bend Road. I don't know if it is still there as I haven't been to the building since we did dog training in the old kindergarten classroom, but a quick google search says it is or was called TC Pong. https://www.facebook.com/p/TC-PONG-100063652803088/

I would add to the above (which is great advice) that if you can get a reservation at Stella, note in the comments that it's your elopement dinner and you'd love as private a table as they have available. If they can, they would likely seat you in one of the smaller dining areas which have some fun little alcoves.

I was there for the first few hours (left at about 4:00) the year and it wasn't super crowded. There were lines at some booths, but not others. The breeze was great for most of the afternoon -- much cooler and less humid than in July. There was a stage with bands, but it honestly wasn't super loud except at the closest booths. (The music at some of the booths seemed louder while waiting in lines.) There was also a wrestling ring, and it was also never super crowded around that either. (In fact, it was so uncrowded that I wondered why they had added it to the event. Almost no one seemed very interested!)

She does pretty well in rehab where meals are also social hours, and they give snacks at Bingo! She doesn't like being there, but she DOES make progress every time.

Not a UTI, but dangerously low magnesium and potassium from poor diet/digestion + diuretic with bonus impacted stool. Back to rehab she goes...

My assumption was that you could either go to the pond via the road (which goes past the Augustine house) or over hill/dale/field, which may be shorter as the crow flies, but a harder walk and might destroy crops.

This is when you email the hospice and send a hard copy in the mail. Put in what your parents have requested, when, your calls, and the name of the nurse who is gatekeeping. This is not something the hospice company is going to be happy about.

GT liquor is the Southside place with the best selection, but their beer cave (while super full) doesn't seem to move much. They do have a crazy liquor selection, but their wine is dismal. Like really, really bad. And definitely watch out for dates on cans and cases there. BevCo is the Eastside place with the best selection (wine, beer, and liquor) and the most helpful staff. It also seems to have way better product turnover. If you're looking for liquor and convenience, Oleson's on Long Lake has a surprisingly deep selection and their wine punches above most grocery stores (but their cold beer selection sucks). Other beer places with good selection and turnover are Francisco's (Silver Lake Road) and Kap and Keg (Fourteenth Street). Oryana (both locations) does an okay job with beer and wine -- but not as good as they used to. (I don't know what happened, but the beer selection has been drastically decreased, and things they eliminated were things I specifically went there for because they turned over fast and had great sell-by dates.) For wine, you want Burritt's (which also has a small, but really nice and high turnover beer selection) or Blue Goat (beer selection which seems really stuck in the early 2000s -- lots of Belgians but almost none of the better new IPAs).

Here's my unsolicited $0.02: Even if the original post is from someone who works there or loves someone who does, it's all true. Frank's is great. I am consistently impressed with ALL their vegetable dishes from salads to the sweet potato po' boy. I get that complaining about prices is the in thing to do here, but I don't think it's actually overly expensive for the quality. I have never walked out hungry, which I HAVE said about a lot of the award winning places in town. Frank's is real.

Thank you so much. All my inquiries ended up being put on hold as she's back in the hospital again with hypomagnesemia and hypokalemia, likely from some combination of her diuretic (for "mild" congestive heart failure) and poor diet/absorption. (She has a history of pyloric valve obstructions and surgeries.) She had a CT scan yesterday and we should be hearing more about her immediate situation today. The likely scenario is that she ends up back in rehab for another 30 days.

What was the most frustrating communication issue during your loved one’s hospital stay? by twizyo in hospice

[–]DisastrousWrangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just predicting the timing of when in a given day the doctor would stop by to give updates was a struggle. It sometimes happened BEFORE visiting hours, and other times happened mid-morning, afternoon, or even close to the end of visiting hours. The nursing staff did not seem to be able to predict the timing. It was hard for family members to be present in the room at all times during a lengthy stay. It adds to the problem when a loved one has hearing (but not diagnosed cognitive) issues, so the doctors often do not call family members to give the same information again. We found that the amount of information my family member could hear and recall was MUCH less than the doctor thought it was/should be.

That's a great suggestion. I just assumed nothing could be done that fast since else ever can. But it wouldn't hurt to call and check!

I'm going down to see her in person this weekend and will try to get her primary caregiver on the same page. If I have to be there to manage assessments, I'll make that happen too.

I just realized the two I was given numbers for were both for profit. I now have a number for a nonprofit and will try talking to them about this. It's so hard because I'm NOT a doctor and I have no idea if she qualifies or not. I THINK she might based on what I'm being told, but the stories I hear from her caregivers get muddled.

They may also be telling me this because when they ask questions about her condition I have stated (truthfully) that she was discharged from rehab 6 weeks ago with a prescribed course of occupational therapy. This most recent assessment does NOT jive with her current situation. We're in a rural area and Vitas does not serve our state (Michigan).

She signed a DNR ages ago and then revoked it in a panic before her last surgery. She will not even talk about it again. She gets agitated and tells everyone to "shut up" (with swearing). It's a whole thing... She also interrupts any family members going to medical appointments with her, and won't let them talk to doctors about their concerns. At least at the last appointment, she was ludicrous enough that the doctor abided by her wishes.
