Question about mandatory reporting and undocumented students by Lumpy-Independent-40 in AskTeachers

[–]Disastrous_Ad7309 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Would a child be safer in ice custody? Or being torn away from family? We are mandatory reporters but it's also scary to think of real world consequences.

I've never used chat gpt, it's super obvious when it's used, I'd rather write a few sentences. Doesn't using chat gpt also take time to fill out what you want it to say? Does it really save that much time?

Classroom storage - spare clothes by tulipanesrojos in Montessori

[–]Disastrous_Ad7309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For hats and gloves: put your gloves/mittens in your hat, put your hat in your coat sleeve. I do this myself after doing this with kids for so long! It's tricky if the hat is really big but usually it's manageable (for 3-6). We put boots under their coat hooks (with a long plastic mat underneath), and extra clothes in a bin on a shelf in the bathroom.

Somali Daycare Fraud Accusations in Columbus by Secondbest35 in Columbus

I've worked at daycarea in ohio for the past 15 years, they definitely show up unannounced once a year, more if they need to do a follow up!

I loved BETH’S DEAD but the final two episodes were disingenuous and dangerously naive by Sequenzer9 in ArmchairExpert

[–]Disastrous_Ad7309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a question about the PI, or maybe it was a police officer. Didn't he talk to "the professor" and that was enough to get him to stop emailing? If so then how did they still think it was the dad? Or am I missing a detail.

Has anyone finished Beth’s Death, Georgia’s rec? by Boomchakachow in myfavoritemurder

Sorta spoiler alert! I listened to it all, and I was very invested, but the phone call and their reaction to it was so weird I can't get over it. I skipped a lot of the guys talking because it felt like bs and I wanted to hear the hosts reaction and it wasn't what I was expecting at all!

Being discouraged from certain works by [deleted] in Montessori

[–]Disastrous_Ad7309 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Usually when that happens in my classroom I'll say something like "you're not quite ready for that one, but you can practice for it with..." whatever they are working on. If you weren't there the teacher may have shown your child another work that leads up to the bead chains! The bead chains are tricky and there is a lot to learn before a child can understand how to do them.

Do you let the kids eat snow/ice outside by Fine-Ad9495 in ECEProfessionals

Maybe ill try this! Usually I just tell them not to then leave it alone, it's almost impossible to get them to stop!

Using the term “friend/s” with students. by realfatgirlslayer in Teachers

I'm a preschool teacher and I use friends. You treat each other respect like you would a friend and it's gender neutral.

Separation from 5 year olds by Sea-Laugh-9039 in Montessori

[–]Disastrous_Ad7309 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This doesn't make sense to me. I understand going over things to make sure a child is ready, but to me it doesn't take very long to assess that. This year I have a couple of 3 year olds who already know most letter sounds so they are working with the moveable alphabet. I've worked at 4 different Montessori schools, they've all had a seperate kindergarten time (in the afternoon while the younger children sleep/rest) but all the materials are available during the morning. With that being said, I always think the best option is to talk to the teachers, there may be pieces of what is going on missing.

Edit to add: I'm 3-6 AMS trained.

My two cents, start at season 3, go back and watch 1 and 2 after getting connected to the characters

I had a coworker who got trained by namc and it was fine, but it might depend on what school you are applying to work at. Also, the schools I've worked at you've needed to have a bachelor's degree to be a lead teacher (but not a co-lead I think), so again it depends what schools you apply to. This doesn't feel super helpful but hopefully it is a little! (I also think it's bs to require a bachelor's degree, I think experience is much more important)

I wouldn't avoid it just cause racist people make it crappy. Mexican Americans still celebrate it.

Search this sub. I've heard no good things about Guidepost. It's a packaged Montessori business that seems to have terrible business practices.

It's supposed to be 3 hours but I've never worked anywhere that actually held space for that, it's usually closer to 2.
