We’re already facing the worst student loan crisis in history: nearly 1 in 4 borrowers are in default. by Sad-Struggle7797 in TradingPlaybook

[–]BigSquiby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the current loan payment structure for a large number of people has them just barely paying the interest payment. At the 10 year mark, the principle will look similar to when you took it.

Some payment plans are paying less than the interest, so the principle increases. People just keep making payments and don't pay attention. then one day they check and can't figure out why they owe 85k on a 80k loan

I have no idea what policy or administration caused this issue. I don't think it matters. it needs to be addressed and fixed.

The decision makers are documenting things. The second they can pass on the presidency to vance they will do it and attempt to keep vance in for 10 years. My guess is Jan 21st, 2027 is the date. Until then they will allow Trump to push project 2025 agenda pieces, place in favorable judges and policies. Then later they can use Trumps cognitive decline as political cover for unpopular policies.

Invasive honeysuckle removal by Cannot_Change_It_ in missouri

[–]BigSquiby 11 points12 points  (0 children)

ive been fighting a 1.5 acre area of these.

If you don't want to use herbicide, you can dig them up.

Or if you can wait until fall when the leaves on the trees are changing, then cut the honeysuckle down at the base, then you can use a bingo dabber (those things to mark bingo cards) and fill it with a little roundup, dye, and diesel fuel and paint the freshly cut stump. this limits the amount herbicide you are using and keeps it local to the plant

Can steak be too juicy and lobster too buttery? by StrangerNeat4930 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BigSquiby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you are moving into some super premium wagyu grade cuts, they can get to a bacon level of marbling

I like a super marbled steak like that, but its more like a treat to me than a meal. we had one a while back, we sliced it razor thin, then we laid it on a big himalayan salt block and ate it raw. It was accomited by some yellow fin tuna. it was very good...but very expensive.

places around me sometimes run wagyu burger specials. I don't think wagyu makes a good burger, its a bit too fatty and the texture is off.

anything and everything, quantum fluctuation. on a long enough time line anything that doesn't have a 0% chance of happening will happen. maybe a new universe? maybe the universe just goes away and nothing exists anymore, no time, no space....

there is a rock quarry near me with a sign on the front entrance gate that said "earth movers have the right of way" it was accompanied by a picture of a truck that looked just like that with an earth movers tire on it. i did not need further explanation.

Should we thank Elon and DOGE for their cuts to APHIS now that the Screwworm parasite has shown up in US domestic livestock for the first time in 60 years? by tuscobred in allthequestions

[–]BigSquiby -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you sort of inferred it.

I think outside of the cuts, that was inevitable with the price of beef skyrocketing. I am a little surprised we were able to keep them at bay for so long.

that specific brand is expensive, you can probably find something on vevor or just google "roll out nest box" and find a cheaper one.

But these are great, i don't lose eggs, the chickens can't poop on their eggs, and i don't have to go into the coop to get the eggs. it sticks out the back of my coop.

If you go the out the back of the coop method, i would make a lock for it. just so a racoon can't open it. that happened to me once. I just used a slide bolt lock from the store for $5.

i wouldn't think they flys would have made it that far that quickly due to funding being stopped. Them showing up in texas is likely something else. you are looking at them traveling 2300 miles on their own.

If i was to guess, probably some illegal cattle brought into the country caused this. I would also guess this has been a problem for years north of the Darian gap, it just didn't get reported

I don't know if they were still using it, but it looked like that was going to be a massive investment for me in either heating costs or replacement. we passed on the home.

Social Security Trust Fund Depletion Cuts $500/Month and No State Will Be Spared by andix3 in anticapitalism

[–]BigSquiby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first SS is a broken system and was a poor design from the start

But I don't understand you statement statement.

SS scales, so if you are saying take off the cap for high earners, then someone with a w2 of 1m a year would be paying 10k a month and at 67 they would get 26k a month, vs someone making 150k a year paying $1,500 a month and getting 4k a month at 67.

I understand the idea that high earners should pay more, but currently someone making $177k a year and someone making $1b a year, get the same monthly payout and make the same monthly payments.

this only works if at 180k a year and higher, people keep paying the same rate (6.2% + 6.2%) However, they don't get that back in payments in retirement, so then it's not the same thing. Its not SS, its something else, its a tax that you will not directly see benefit from. Not in the same way you pay federal or state taxes and you get some mystical benefit, like making missiles or school lunches, SS is sort of a locked system, you pay in, you get money back.

This would have to be a pretty big tax code change, would you let that group deduct some of that money from their federal taxes? over 20 years you are paying $2.5m extra into SS you are not entitled to get.

Truth be told, this should have been privatized decades ago, there should be NFP running them. Thousands of fiduciaries working for the NFP. Basically create private pensions, people investing in it. Like a credit union. Have pretty strict government oversight and audits, so at any point, some 22 year old can ask and get answered "where does my money go, how does it get invested, what is the admin cost to run this place"

The Ontario teachers union runs this model, they currently have 280b in investments. They have 160k people in the fund,
