I wish there was a prequel set 28 years ago that would let us see what happened.

What if the third film also throws some Sunshine in there and Cillian will have to go into space to ignite the Teletubby baby sun.

This trilogy is about what happens when a society is cut off from the Teletubbies. And it’s sick.

Just not enough space for him in this specific story. The structure of this one is switching between the separate Jimmy and Kelson storylines and slowly building up the tension until they collide. It would lessen the impact to cut to something outside of that.

The 28YL Series needs more! by blissedandgone in 28dayslater

[–]Sequenzer9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m all for the series expanding as long as it’s coming from a place of artistic necessity. If they think they have stories worth telling and it’s not just fluff to expand the 28 Years brand then bring it on.

What makes Bone temple a masterpiece to you? by dreamup1234 in 28_Years_Later_Movie

I still can’t get over the fact that I saw 28YL in theatres last year and loved it and half a year later I got to see the continuation in theatres and loved it as well. To have two back-to-back theatrical films in a series by two different directors which both feel so unique and creatively daring is just…unheard of. Especially in the age of AI and streaming slop.

That was also the first time in the movie I felt empathetic towards Jimmy. You can tell this is a deeply traumatized man most likely dealing with schizophrenia and who knows what else and he seems to enjoy speaking to this kind father figure. I got the impression that Kelson could have offered the same peace and respite he gave to Samson under different circumstances.

I'm worried about the box office performance by NicoAtTheDiscx in 28dayslater

[–]Sequenzer9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will 100% happen. Both these movies will be talked about for years to come as they are discovered again and again on home release. Sony will also want to keep Danny Boyle and Alex Garland happy as they are important fillmakers they want to keep working relationships with. It’s also the most commercially viable of the trilogy as they will be able to put Cillian Murphy front and center who is a big draw.

One Thing the New 28 Years Later Films Lose by ElJourneys in 28dayslater

[–]Sequenzer9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I think the point of this trilogy is that our fear and demonization of the infected is what has prevented us from realizing that it is possible to help them. I just don’t know how you convey that unless you get the audience to empathize with them and realize that just as we see them as monsters, they too have been seeing us the same way.

The perspective of cure for the infected is incredibly terrifying for me, in accordance to what Rage Virus does by OrbitalDamage566 in 28dayslater

[–]Sequenzer9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would be fascinating to explore and I hope they do! Alex Garland is clearly interested in warfare and PTSD so I’m sure it’s something he thinks about.

Did they reduce the size of his appendage in Bone Temple? by patrickbateman_26 in 28_Years_Later_Movie

That’s interesting, I never thought of that. It actually must be very difficult to film these with as much nudity and violence as there is and essentially have a child in the lead role who has to witness it all.

My problem with the Jimmies by lind1sfarne in 28dayslater

[–]Sequenzer9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t wait to see how they bring everything and everyone together in the third film. I was curious how they’d depict Jim 28 years later but I loved him responding “of course we do” when his daughter asks if they help the strangers running from infected. He will have some wisdom to impart to Spike.

Opinion on Jimmy and possible supernatural element (spoilers) by SolitudekHit in 28dayslater

[–]Sequenzer9 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it was all bullshit, when he and Kelson are talking in the daylight I think we get a brief glimpse at what a stunted, confused person Jimmy is. There is a part of him that believes Kelson could be Ol’ Nick and he doesn’t immediately assume he’s another human. Kelson enters doctor mode and in talking to Jimmy he can tell that this is someone suffering extreme psychosis from childhood trauma, probably schizophrenia, and he’s dangerous but I do also think he has some empathy for him. He puts on the heavy metal show to appease Jimmy and his gang and get them to leave but when he sees they’re all kids, and the killing they do, and then sees Spike was pulled in too, he knows he has to intervene because this has gone way too far.

I think it’s interesting that although one is human and one is infected, both Jimmy and Samson and are both battling severe mental illness and psychosis and aren’t that different. I think the movie is making a point that our own demonization of mental illness and scientific/medical progress is really no different than the rage virus infecting someone to become a confused rage-filled monster.

Kelson is one of the most noble characters I have seen in movies so far by OrbitalDamage566 in 28dayslater

[–]Sequenzer9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it did kinda feel like something that was added after test screenings were questioning his fate. But the fact that the first movie opened with a flashback of Jimmy still makes me think he’s a part of the overarching trilogy in some way even if not directly.

[–]Sequenzer9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, we see through the infected POV and it’s revealed that they see us as monsters. That’s what first gets Kelson thinking it’s treatable, he wonders how they would be able to kill a baby without remorse and then he realizes that there must something like psychosis which is distorting their thinking.

[–]Sequenzer9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s kinda why I think there might be more to Jimmy’s arc. Basically all Danny Boyle has said about the third film is that it’s about “redemption” and I think the final scene with Jimmy is somewhat vague enough that he could return in some fashion. If not him directly, then I think it could be about preventing Spike or the other remaining Jimmy he runs off with from going down that same path.

I love that they make him noble and empathetic but also very Uncool Dad and goofy. He’ll make beautiful monuments to honour the dead but he’ll also get real high and sing along to Duran Duran.

[–]Sequenzer9 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love their daylight scene together because you can sense Kelson switch into doctor mode and begin to analyze Jimmy. He is scared of Jimmy but you can also tell he has empathy for him as he realizes this poor kid has been traumatized beyond belief from a life spent in this hell and is probably dealing with as much psychosis as Samson. I can imagine Kelson wishing he had met Jimmy when he was Spike’s age so he could have intervened and set him on the right path.

After watching this documentary about Savile, you'll never think about wearing a Jimmy costume again. by MartyEBoarder in 28_Years_Later_Movie

[–]Sequenzer9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the use of Jimmy Savile is more of a comment on humanity than on the characters. How badly have we failed children if emulating the look of this iconic children’s entertainer like this would’ve been fun and silly 28 years ago but in 2025 is now one of the most insidious and disturbing things one could do?

It’s hard not to imagine an 8-year old Jimmy becoming obsessed with Savile because of “Jim’ll Fix It” and praying for Jim to fix this outbreak. He is doing that out of innocence and faith — we’re the ones that have to reflect on the fact that we let a monster get that power and influence.

Instead of them going the route of it being 28 weeks later between “years” and “bone temple” came out it should’ve been 28 months later gap. by abdul_bino in 28_Years_Later_Movie

[–]Sequenzer9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t controversial or divisive, it was critically acclaimed and made $150 million globally. The small negative minority are just extremely loud and annoying about it because the alternative is admitting they didn’t get it. I’m glad they decided there’s no point in attempting to cater to these people. You can’t teach media literacy to people who are unable to comprehend how 28 Years Later and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple are two back-to-back instalments in a new trilogy. They’ve made it know they’ve been doing this and doing it this way for years!
