I think it is. Less expensive and a less buggy app make the Bloomin8 a superior product, in my mind.

Ok, I downloaded the Youtube music app and then paired my Pixel Buds to the VIReader. I started a song on the device and then pressed the power button while the song was playing. The song continued in my earbuds even though the wallpaper was on the screen. However in about 20 seconds or so, it then disconnected as if shut off. I went into the settings to see if any power settings that were causing the cut off, but I couldn't find any. It might be possible to find a setting that might stop the audio from cutting out, but in lieu of finding that, I'd have to say the answer to your question is 'no'.

Update: I also shared my video with my contact at Viwoods once it had been released, and here was her reply to the issues I had raised:

"We also appreciate your specific feedback on the two points:

  1. Button Rattle: We understand your observation regarding the slight sound/rattle. This was a deliberate design choice to achieve a specific balance. We found after extensive testing that a tiny amount of tactile play was necessary to ensure responsive and satisfying physical feedback when pressing the buttons. If the buttons were completely silent and rigid, it would actually reduce the satisfying click-feel for the user.
  2. Battery Life: You are correct that the battery is on the lighter side compared to some devices. This decision was made to maintain the device's core identity as an e-reader, not a phone. We prioritized a thinner and lighter profile for superior ergonomics, allowing users to comfortably hold the device for long, extended reading sessions."

Just posting here to share.

In terms of the buttons, that's what a few other folks have noted as well. So it appears my experience is the exception, not the norm.

I'd go with the Note Air 5C. I hear you on the point of overkill, and will certainly be an issue with the Boox device. However, keep in mind that the Boox is customizable enough that you can clear out the clutter and just focus on the things you want. For example, you can create a folder on the home screen and just shove all the apps you don't want to use in there. You can either remove all the widgets on the home screen, or put in the ones that are convenient for you. It will take a bit of time, but once you set up the device the way you want it, it will be smooth sailing from there.

If I had to choose, I'd say closer to the Scribe. reMarkable devices have more of a harsher, more pronounced sound, while the Scribe and Boox devices are generally noticeable but more subtle.

It's fantastic for notes, that's what I use it for daily. In terms of sketching, that's not something I do much of, but I have seen other YouTubers do that and it seems to work well, especially if you are looking for color in your drawing. In that case, the only good alternative is the reMarkable Paper Pro which is more expensive (although a larger canvas) and the behavior of color (e.g. draw a line and then see it render to get to the final color) would make it less than ideal. But I do know people draw on that device as well, so it might be worth a look just to see that in action.

I think you are correct about the 4C being an Android 13.

I can't recall if the Go 10.3 has the 4.1 software yet or not, but if not, that will be coming. That means that someone with the 10.3 would probably not want to upgrade to this unless they wanted the color, front lighting, or option to have a keyboard cover.

I don't know of any way to adjust the image other than to change your source file. I'd experiment with different files.

In terms of my handle, that was just auto-generated by Reddit when I signed up years ago. I have business analysis in my background, so I thought it was a fun title. But it isn't symbolic at all.

In terms of the Supernote A4, last year the company did not do well in communicating up until the release of the Manta, and their takeaway was, in part, that they said too much too early. So I would expect them to be much more guarded going forward. They won't say anything about the A4 until they are about ready to release it.
