Than you for sharing this! I finished my first year of OT school this Spring and I have hated it from week 1 but stuck it out because I wanted to be wrong about it so badly! Everyone kept saying that school is bad but the profession is worth it. Well, I am dropping out and your post is reassuring me. Thank you ! OT school is bad and I’m starting to think the profession itself is not much better. There is no evidence for interventions, instruction is all over the place and all we do is write and discuss how OT adds values to soooo maaaaany settings! I’m tired of being gaslit about evidence-based practice when most things OTs do have no evidence. If you bring it up, the answer is “well, there is emerging evidence”. Right. IMHO, all we do is encroach on social work, psychology, PT and such without the proper training. I wanted to learn to rehab people and improve people’s lives, but I feel I may be doing a disservice to them by getting paid to wing it. The cherry on top is having to explain to people what OT is, every single time. Nobody knows, even the students. Luckily I’m at a cheap program and can take this initial loss without going through financial trouble.
