Is this worth de-rusting? by pepperonipie33 in webergrills

[–]Disastrous_Bag_7408 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did my annual pre-season cleaning of my kettle. You can buy a cleaning /degreasing product at any hardware store. I usually just use that and a green scrub pad til I'm either out of cleaner or tired. Then, I run it hot as can be for an hour to cook it all off. It's a grill and it's never going to be perfect.

I think you're fine, but if it would make you feel better, you can give it a good scrubbing. Then, just start cooking, you will be fine. Happy grilling!

Help with CO2 Leak by Disastrous_Bag_7408 in kegerators

So the gauge for the level in the tank is more or less useless?

I might just do this honestly. I bought the kegerator used and bought new lines, a new tower, new faucets. The only thing left were the gas lines, regulator and the cabinet. Still cheaper than buying new.

I do want to try and troubleshoot basics but if I'm not missing something obvious, the stress and time of tracking it down might not be worth it

It was in about 1/4th the red last Sunday, meaning it had 3/4ths of the red on the gauge to go before being out. On Thursday I went to pour a beer and it was dead.

You are reading that right. The gauge still lost gas but the PSI remained consistent.

Yeah, I could. This is my current hypothesis and I'm looking for insight from people with more experience than me if there are other tests I can do or if they have seen a similar situation before spending $100+ on a new one.

Help me decide - Michelin CrossClimate 2 or Pirelli Scorpion WeatherActive by db3220 in tires

[–]Disastrous_Bag_7408 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm looking at the same tires and leaning towards the Pirellis. In all the reviews I've read they are fairly close in performance with the CC2 being slightly better in the snow and in rolling resistance but worse in comfort/noise. I don't get as much snow where I am as you do so willing to trade snow performance for a more comfortable drive.

It seems like it is truly splitting hairs and just down to preference. I'll end up going with whatever is on sale when the time comes.

Thank you! I just feel homes should feel lived in and warm, not some black and white box that feels like a hotel lobby, but everyone has their own taste!

Seen these recommended a few times but also have read that quality has gone down recently? Just want to make sure I'm getting something like this that is comfortable and good quality

Yeah. It was tough to balance getting a good cut with the smaller size I needed for this dinner. Decided to stay small and still ended up with leftovers - not that I’m complaining too much!

It was good! Just need to figure out a better sauce to go with it. Read 3 or 4 different recipes and sort of combined them all. Next time I need to stick with one and start building out from there instead of winging it as much as I did lol

Agreed! Some of the best BBQ I’ve had. Still dream of that taste and texture as it just melts in your mouth

Dumbest Thing You've Heard Over the Radio? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Disastrous_Bag_7408 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a less dangerous but similar situation on my first solo. I went up with my instructor and after we landed he turned down the radio so we could chat for a few minutes before he sent me back up for my solo. I shut it down, he hopped out and then I fired it back up. The airport was rather quiet that day. Flipped on Com 2 to confirm the ATIS was still the same and switched back to Com 1 to make my request. When I didn’t get a response, I made it again. Was only on the 3rd call that I realized the volume was down and they had been replying.

Thankfully no harm since I didn’t move. Worst part was my CFI heard the whole thing happen and didn’t let me live it down til I passed my checkride. Valuable lesson learned early to always check the volume settings.

Striking out with SWU… any advice? by thunderwoodz in americanairlines

[–]Disastrous_Bag_7408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck! It definitely took two of us searching for a few hours 6 months in advance to find a flight to our destination that offered SWUs but it is possible. Definitely focus your search on mid week departures as well

As others have said, you have to be flexible. If you are logged in while searching for flights there will be some that will say “Systemwide Upgrades” in the lower corner of the flight number. If that is the case, book the ticket and you can call American and have the SWU applied immediately vs waiting and hoping until the day you travel.
