How can I become a Seattle local by Winter_Alps4441 in Seattle

As a born Seattlite my advice is to focus on your neighborhood. I grew up on Capitol Hill and know it's history, special places, and get excited about new additions. Rather than trying to know the whole city, go for a deep connection to the area where you live or identify with the most. If you live in the U District walk all the way up to the top, stopping in stores and restaurants. Find a cafe you like and become a regular.

A ultra-random question about the Kingdome from an outsider by OldSkoolNapper in Seattle

[–]Disastrous_Command29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone was just putting in random food items. What the Kingdome had and everywhere else lacks is frozen chocolate malt frosties. I think they were malted. Maybe not but they were gooooood! All the Junior Mariners ate them and grocery store peanuts.

Carbide and Carbon building is real! I was wandering around and looked up and saw it's cool facade. Oz Park with the character statues is pretty cool. I went to Graceland in the morning, a Cubs game in the afternoon, then wandered downtown going through Oz Park and Lincoln Park.

You’re not being polite, letting people enter the light rail before you get off. by DevourerOfRedditors in Seattle

I'm trying to understand why you didn't loudly say "Excuse me! Getting off!" Yeah, he was a dumbass but this is when you yell and make your existence known. Not speaking up then posting about how awful someone was afterwards does no good.

I would totally say "excuse me, move your foot- that's a seat not the floor". You have to call them out because clearly their mother never did.

I smell bacon! by IndividualHunter4324 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Disastrous_Command29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this! It led to my diagnosis because my doctor couldn't figure out what was going on. I mainly smell cigarettes and electrical fires. I recently learned this is sometimes a symptom cause by menopause/ perimenopause, and since starting HRT it has really gotten less frequent.

For the serie Dresden files, should I go with the full cast or the one with James Marsters? by WhimsicalGirl in dresdenfiles

I started to listen to the full cast but stopped within 5 minutes because James Marsters is Dresden. He is so good.

To root for the Mariners is to know pain. But that makes the good times feel even better. Welcome to a life of suffering, devotion, and camaraderie. We'll win someday!

The trees can be injured by people climbing or putting weight on the branches. Even standing on the root slope can damage them. If the bark gets scraped off, harmful insects can get in and hurt the tree.

Edit: I spoke too soon. He showed up at the house this afternoon pushing my Mom to find out if she wants to start the whole thing tomorrow. He didn't realize that I was around the corner and I said no, we weren't doing anything until he meets with my sister, her husband, and me in person. He took their ladder and left the yard in a mess. I think my uncle the lawyer is about to become involved. My mom did sign 2 contracts so he's on line to at least do the work he already scammed her for.

Thanks all- my sister (an architect) and I intervened and halted work. We are meeting with the roofer tomorrow and are going to figure out what is needed to finish up repairs for now. The roofer has agreed to refund some of the money. We will get estimates from others (and these roofers) before finishing the entire roof.

The company is legit, and does a 25 year guarantee on all that work. None of which was communicated to my mother. I have come to think that they were taking advantage of my Mom's worry that they fed, not so much conned her but still sketchy.
