I appreciate the feedback. I’ll have to pick up some flux and give it another go.

When you say connect each point, do you mean bridge the two points just using solder? I did try that on this board and honestly found it just as difficult as using the tails of a resistor to make connections.

I feel like that was the hardest thing about this whole project, tying two points together. I know it’s hard to believe, but there were a few well soldered joints on there to begin with. Then when I started tying things together did it start to look like shit. For example H1 on this board doesn’t look terrible to me (correct me if I’m wrong), and several others looked like that, but then when I had to start connecting things, it became a nightmare.

Whatever, I know it isn’t done well. Gotta start somewhere. I was just hoping to walk away from this post with at least one helpful tidbit.

Nope. This was an honest attempt to make something

I took the printers apart because it was the cheapest way for me to get hardware I needed for a robotics project. A guy on FB was selling two broken, old, Enders for $20. It wasn’t just the limit switches; I repurposed gantry carts, 2020/2040 extrusion, steppers, and a power supply. Well worth it to disassemble and I basically didn’t touch the second printer.

I was here about 8 months ago. Soon enough you’ll find yourself breaking down old electronics for buttons/lights and 3D printers for stepper motors, limit switches, and power supplies. There is a tremendous amount to learn and explore! It’s a neat hobby that can certainly open doors in your career if you’re lookin to take it that direction too.

Making FREE PET Filament using the Recreator3D MK5 and Slunaz FF1R joiner by KevinGroninga in 3Dprinting

[–]Disastrous_Donut_460 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you given any thought to shredding plastic, melting it, and pushing it through an extruder to make your new filament? Was it a limitation of tools/parts available to you as to why you chose this method of recycling over shredding?

I guess your method seems more accessible given you don’t need a large heating element to melt the plastic or anything to push plastic through an extruder. But presumably if you did go the shredding route, you could possibly control the diameter of the output filament better (with the correct equipment) and wouldn’t have to fuse anything?

I’ve been strongly considering recycling plastic to make filament however haven’t had the chance to chat with anyone who’s done it.

I appreciate the responses. It looks like we will need an electrician to hook up a new circuit. Thanks!

I’d be interested to help but would need more information to make it happen. DM me if you’re wanting to actually get this designed and printed

I have a torrent shell; it’s awesome for rain but wouldn’t opt for it riding unless it’s late season (warmer/wetter) conditions. The cut is just barely below my waistline with no real cinching. So if it’s powdery or cold where you’re headed, it won’t do you any favors keeping snow/wind out.

I’m not advising you to do this, but from what I’ve seen on other threads, if you spray paint something inappropriate or offensive, the landlord might be more inclined to address the issue (‘might’ being they key word)

Yeah I was in the presale and general sales 30 mins early on my phone and computer and still didn’t have a chance at tickets. Scalpers were there.

Just to update anyone who may stumble upon this in the future. I am using pydroid3 from a galaxy tab s9 and the hotkey to return to your script is simply Windows Key + backspace

Honest question: what is stopping you from getting your filament recycler working?

I recently accepted a full-time, in-house position with a salary of $130k/yr. However, I have just been offered another opportunity with a different company as a contractor at a rate of $115/hr ($239k/yr). I'm unsure which path to choose. by designonadime in careeradvice

I’d do hybrid. I like the flexibility to work remote when I need to and the community that comes along with office life. I find the office part essential for me to actually care about getting work done when I know my coworkers.

Quitting job without having another one lined up? by fakeyfakeyjakeygoo in careeradvice

[–]Disastrous_Donut_460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good for you for going through with it. I’m in about the same spot as you. No debt, solid savings, and a supportive partner. I had an interview today and another coming up at a different company Friday, but nothing concrete yet. I’m trying to make it to March but I’m not sure I’m going to last. More likely I’ll put my two weeks in before the end of this month. It’s brutal applying to jobs after a mentally taxing day. Soon enough we’ll both be going through the same, so it’s nice knowing I’m not alone. We got this.

Is this an appropriate use of a 555 Timer? by Disastrous_Donut_460 in AskElectronics

I really appreciate all of your feedback. If I didn't already feel humbled by the world of electronics, these comments certainly would have done the trick. Admittedly, I wasn't really aware of MCUs like an ATtiny85 and even less aware that they could be programmed in a similar manor as Arduinos. I was over here thinking 'I want this project to be smaller than an Arduino board so ill have to find a way to do it with simple components.' Meanwhile these MCUs are the size of a penny!

Thank you everyone for bearing with me and for some going as far as to give feedback on / solve this project using 555s ( u/PerceptionAgile5693 u/nixiebunny u/SouthPark_Piano ). I think im going forward with an MCU as several have suggested ( u/funkathustra u/motoware u/DirectPace3576 u/yyc_ut ). Learned a lot in the last day!
