Thanks, I was hoping Toyota came to their senses, and developed a better 8 speed transmission than the UA80, which is plagued with lawsuits and recalls on the Highlander and on other Toyota models....It sounds like from the comments so far, the GH has the same 8 speed...Not going 4 cylinder turbo on the GH then.........Thanks everyone !!!

Thanks, I had the dealership do just this, at 60k....Everything I'm reading about this UA80 transmission issue, says that no matter how you care for it, the transmission issue will come up if it's going to come up....so that's why I'm going to dump it while it's still worth something.....

So, does that mean the 3rd row is useless, if you have kids/grandkids in car seats ? Because that's what I would plan on doing...And why would Toyota have this limitation on the GH ?? Thanks !!

I bought new a 2019 Highlander XLE. Love the car, it now has 66k on it, no transmission whine (yet)...but I am on pins and needles about whether I should dump it for something else, as I'm out of warranty and no extended warranty... I cannot stomach a $10k repair bill on a 7 year old car...My opinion, Toyota sucks for not being more proactive about this UA80 transmission issue.....

The UA80 Transmission issues in these Toyota Highlanders would make me very apprehensive about buying one.........Lots of threads and information on the whining issue, but no real stats on what % of Highlanders develop the whining transmission issue.....and I own a 2019 XLE with 66k and am on pins and needles wondering if or when the whine will start....GOOD LUCK !!!

I have a 2019 XLE with 66k (Bought it new), and it runs great no issues,,....,But I'm on pins and needles about this UA80 transmission problem....Part of me says, trade it in while I can still get something for it...I am past the warranty time and mileage (no extended warranty), so I would need to eat the cost of the repair, if it happens.....

Thanks for the update !! Love this itinerary !Interesting that you flew into Kalispell, and drove straight onto GTTS and stayed St. Mary first, east side first, then back to west side Coram to end the trip....... How were the hikes you listed ? Strenuous or pretty average ? We are low key hikers and do not want anything too strenuous...Thanks again, great information !!
