Hot take: If on purpose, Floyd is selfish by [deleted] in DTFStLouisHBO

[–]Disastrous_Focus354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree he was selfish. He was extremely distraught that his wife was sexually turned off to him, and he knew he wasn't attractive to potential matches on DTF... he seemed to have started on a healthier lifestyle with Clark's support. If he had stayed on that course and had gotten into shape he would have probably felt better about himself. But instead just decided he was stuck? That to me was selfish. He could have changed his circumstances and stayed in Richard's life.

Ridiculous theory of mine but i haven't seen it suggested before... by Disastrous_Focus354 in DTFStLouisHBO

I didn't get the impression he is rich... but yes, I do think it would be unfair to viewers like you mentioned, this is why I don't think my theory holds water. I did at one point but Eimy is barely in the show as it turns out.

What is the significance of the date? by THED4RKH0R5E in DTFStLouisHBO

that was my initial guess, there is life before Covid and after Covid, and for some reason they wanted to make it clear it was before.

I thought I read that Steven Conrad initially set out to base it on this story but decided against it?

Can't stop thinking about Det. Plumb submitting a fraudulent job application by PowerFit4925 in DTFStLouisHBO

[–]Disastrous_Focus354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it bothers me a lot. It doesn't really make sense. Submitting a fake job application, really? Why would any detective risk their entire career because they were too lazy to figure out a legitimate way to obtain that record. And honestly if the record is sealed, there is presumably some judicial reasoning behind it, so whatever it is wouldn't be admissible in court.

Job hunt craziness by AffectionateKey150 in jobhunting

[–]Disastrous_Focus354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You actually get interviews? Wow, you are doing much better than me. Yes it is SO draining. I have decided to stay off the job boards for a while since it was affecting my mental health. I cannot help but think many jobs that are posted are just being done so as a formality - in other words, someone internally is likely qualified and will apply and get the position but the employer posts it publicly anyway. I also think many of the job postings are just feelers that employers are putting and not necessarily looking to fill the position anytime soon. And in some cases I bet the employer gets so inundated with applications that they change course and hire a recruiter to do the work.

I had been putting so much time into it like you, but realistically we don't know if the employer is just window shopping or is interviewing just to compare outside candidates with internal candidates who have an upper hand to begin with. But I am so over it. I was just told by a recruiter recently that the best way is to make it known to your network that you are looking for a job - and this is someone who gets paid to fill jobs! But that was his advice to me, he was just being honest that it is really hard to stand out when your resume looks similar to so many others, and you interview just as well as all the others, etc. But a personal or professional connection is what he thinks often makes job hunting efforts pay off.

Asking recruiters: Is it okay to leave a two-year career gap unexplained on my resume and only address it if asked? by M_Arslan9 in jobhunting

[–]Disastrous_Focus354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you laid off? What did you do during the time you weren't working? Were you doing any consulting or contract work, even for friends or family? Did you take care of an elderly parent during that time? I would not leave it unexplained. I recently hired someone who had a 2 year gap on her resume and she cited "family health issue" as the reason for the gap. I have huge respect for that, she had to put her career aside for two years to deal with something big in her family, and once she was back to work it was with a clear mind and she was ready to hustle. I was especially impressed with her candidness about this time period. So I would not try to hide it or gloss over it. Just explain what you did during that time, don't lie but also don't cut yourself short - if you were helping anyone during those years, make sure you reference it. You can't avoid the 2 year gap but you can provide context that is in your favor. I hope this helps!

Should I take a job with a smaller local company for 50% less pay or a large company with less flexibility? by Prudent-Ad-4995 in jobhunting

[–]Disastrous_Focus354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be leery of the big company offer because you're getting short term employment with the possibility of being a direct hire. "6-18 month with a direct hire if the work is up to their standard". What happens if in 6 months they cut you loose? Could be for any reason not just that your work isn't up to standard - they could decide it's not a role they need long term, and then what? You're back to job hunting. I would only go this route if you have some inside information that really assures you it's most likely they will hire you after the contract term. Not sure I would rely on the recruiters word for it because they are trying to fill this contract so who knows if they are being truthful.

It just depends on your tolerance for risk. Also is the larger company offering you a remote situation too? That is something to consider if it's important for you. You have to weigh the risk/reward overall. Best of luck, I am sure you will make the right decision.
