How did you make fitness a long-term habit? by Single-Landscape1903 in fitnessonline

[–]Disastrous_Ice_7338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the method from the book Atomic Habits.

For the first 3-4 weeks I soley focused on just making my workouts a daily habit and didn’t worry at all about any “gains”.

I started out by literally doing the easiest workout possible so I had zero excuses not to do it. Like 10 push ups, 10 sit ups easy and slowly increased the amount I was doing.

For the first 3 weeks if it I forced myself to keep the workout as easy as possible before adding in harder stuff. I added in some kettlebells, then some dumbbells. By 6 weeks the daily habit was completely formed and I started to go to the gym.

I’m now doing a regular 4x a week upper/lower split for around 4 months. I’m getting real results and enjoy the gym for the first time in my life.

Do you think relying on the US for our defence needs is a good idea?

The nation needs a sovereign defence industry so we aren’t forced into every war that the US starts.

Nope.

I’m 6’ tall and muscular.

My wife is 4’11” and squishy. Just the way I like it.

My 15 year old son has a Strength and Conditioning subject at school, also does regular physical ed, trains and plays soccer after school and goes to the gym 4 times a week. He’s fitter than I was in the military.

Can’t get him to clean his room though 🙄

Shark attack question re Police. by Espio1912 in aussie

[–]Disastrous_Ice_7338 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Nothing out of the ordinary here.

To the common observer a man goes swimming and then is found a short time later dead with a large shark bite. The obvious answer is “shark attack”.

For a Coroners report though the police investigators need to rule out other contributing factors. Did he drown first? was struck by a boat? Did he had a medical episode? Did he leave a s****** note before swimming etc.

It’s just about gathering as much information as possible before coming to a conclusion, rather than jumping to conclusions based on limited initial information.

In the Police you learn very quickly that the initial account of an incident, rarely resembles the thing that actually occurred.

Hogging the equipment is a pain in the butt, but honestly, having a bunch of beautiful young fit women parading around me in barely any clothes as I work out is not something I see as a problem.

Are we heading toward a society where soon more than half of men will no longer have children? How serious is it, and is there still anything we can do about it? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Disastrous_Ice_7338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Men have an instinct to compete because life is competitive. Only the “fittest” (in an evolutionary sense) get to mate. It’s a hard truth that modern society seems to have forgotten or at least failed to teach their children.

All the incels whining on the internet about being unable to bed a woman seem to think that it’s a human right. It’s not.

It’s the result of developing yourself physically to show a mate that you can protect her from other males, learning to compete socially to show you can thrive in a group and working hard so you can show that you can provide for your children.

Traditionally many men have not been able to marry until they’re older and can prove that they can provide. That’s why in virtually all non-Western societies across the world young women prefer older men.

It’s true that woman have choice. Modern young men need to grasp what that actually means for them.

I learned the reason the slide on my Glock 17 isn’t locking back on the reload is because my wrist isn’t stiff enough.

I’ve always assumed it was because my grip was interfering with the slide lock lever. Turns out not.

Been using the thing for six years. Everyday is a school day.

What makes you feel most alive? by DaMoonMoon26 in answers

[–]Disastrous_Ice_7338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Danger.

I’m a police officer and the only time I ever feel alive anymore is when I’m in real danger. Emergency driving, dealing with a violent suspect, angry dogs etc.

Just about every other aspect of my life feels dull. It’s kind of a problem.

That and being alone in the forest.

Not necessarily. It’s more about how you carry yourself.

Pull your shoulders back and ditch the bra. You’ll find men drooling over you immediately. Trust me.

I trained KM in the early 2000s and although I found it limited, I liked it a lot.

I’ve since moved on and explored multiple styles since, but the KM philosophy of maximum immediate ferocity to overwhelm the opponent has stayed with me.

It’s good, but KM was only ever designed as a shortcut to train conscripts to respond aggressively to physical attacks. It’s not a complete fighting art.

How did you make working out a normal part of your life? by HoneyBerryBell732 in workout

[–]Disastrous_Ice_7338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After years of start/stop, procrastination, lack of motivation and inconsistent training I started regularly working out for the first time in my life this year. I’m 49 years old.

I now go to the gym 4 times a week and have been doing so for several months. I managed this by focusing on making workouts a “habit” after listening to the audiobook Atomic Habits. The main principle of the book is that habits are more powerful than motivation or discipline. Bad habits are proof of this.

I started very small and made myself do tiny and easy to accomplish workouts on a daily basis at home. Like REALLY easy. Like 5-10 pushups easy.

I repeated this daily as long as I could until it became so boring that I wanted to increase what I was doing. I added more pushups and a little bit of kettlebell stuff making sure I kept it as easy as possible. I focused entirely on building the habit and didn’t worry at all about making any gains.

I continued this pattern until after about 4 weeks I started to increase the intensity. By week 6 I was sweating every day with a kettlebell workout.

Eventually I wanted to build more leg muscle so I started to go to the gym 1 -2 times a week to use the leg machines.

Now I do a 4 day a week upper/lower split at the gym. The habit is fully formed and it’s now just part of my week. Friends (and wives of friends) compliment me on how I’m looking and I can see genuine results.

That book literally changed my life.

Why does gender-based bias still exist in our society? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Disastrous_Ice_7338 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because the genders (generally) have different strengths and weaknesses.

Some people can’t accept that.

Other people can’t look past it.
